Lester E. Golden, 68, of the 3500 block of Peronne Ave., Norfolk Va., died Monday, March 22, 2004 in a local hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Lella Golden, a daughter, Rhonda Cowan and her husband, Everett of Pasadena, Md., two sisters, Rosie Golden and Martha Jane Lamb, both of Orlando, a brother, Harley Golden of Lynn, and two grandchildren, Melissa and Christopher Cowan, both of Pasadena, Md.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Carolyn Golden and his son Kevin Golden.
A native of Lynn, Mr. Golden was a warehouse man at Monroe Transfer and Storage.
A memorial service was conducted at the Trinity Baptist Church, where Pastor Leroy Briggs and Rev. Paul Eure officiated. Funeral services were held at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Tidewater Drive Chapel.
In lieu of flowers contributions could be made to the American Heart Association.
Florence Ida Nestor
Florence Ida Nestor, 97, of Weston, died at 10:16 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospistal in Weston, following a brief illness.
She was born May 22, 1906, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Sylvester L. Post and Dora Bell Singleton Post.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wallace whom she married November 26, 1931. He preceded her in death April 11, 1966.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Oscar Post, two sisters Carrie Bell Posey and an infant sister.
Surviving her are loving nieces and nephews: Rose Posey, Joan Lee Hinkle, Barbara Kay Post Frame, Roy L. Posey, and Vinsen A. Post and several great- nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Nester was retired from the W.Va. Glass Specialty Co. with over 45 years of experience. She was a 50 year member of the Fern Leaf Rebekah Lodge #101 of which she went thur the Chairs. Mrs. Nester was a member of the Bendale United Methodist Church and the women's circle of the Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jeff Zickefoose officiating. Interment followed in the Peterson cemetery.
Esta Merle Radcliff
Esta Merle Radcliff, 82, of 3098 Old Rt. 33 West, Horner, died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004 in the United Hospital Center following a brief illness.
She was born May 7, 1921 in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Cecil "Monk" Radcliff whom she married January 23, 1939. He preceded her in death March 23, 1986.
She was also preceded in death by one son, James "Turk" Radcliff, and daughter, Delores Jean Henline and one granddaughter. Also several brothers and sisters and half brothers and sisters are deceased.
Surviving are: two sons and one daughter-in-law Calvin Radcliff (wife Barbara) of Parkersburg, John Radcliff of Hazard, Ky.; one daughter and son-in-aw Mary Margaret Smith (husband Jack) of Horner, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Radcliff was a homemaker.
Funeral Services were held at Boyle Funeral Home, where Reverend Ronnie Beeson officiated. Interment followed in the Georgetown cemetery.
Ruth M. Skinner
Ruth M. Skinner, 93, of 133 Day Street, Jane Lew, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at her residence, following an extended illness.
She was born March 8, 1911, in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late William and Ollie Moody Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil J. Skinner who died July 30, 1985.
She is also preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Oris, Charles and Earnest Thompson; two sons Lonnie and George Skinner, and two sisters Minnie Riddle and Bonnie Gamble.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James L. Skinner (wife Ethel) of Hurricane; two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Lanham (husband John) of Ocala, Fla. and Betty Paugh of Jane Lew; one sister Ada Probst of Deerfield, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Skinner was a member of the New Freedom Baptist Church in Turnertown. She was retired from Glenville State College with several years of service in the food service department.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 28, 2004, from the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend David Phillips officiating. Internment followed in the Broad Run cemetery in Jane Lew.
John Strader, Jr.
John Strader, Jr., 67, of 6 Middle Run Road, Weston, died at 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born on March 4, 1937 in Weston, he was a son of the late John H. Strader, Sr. (stepmother, Hazel D. (Hitt) Strader) and Agnes Loraine (Goldsmith) Strader McCutcheon.
He was first married to Betty (Dowell) Scott of Buckhannon, and secondly to Lee (Richards) Metz, of Neptune, N.J. On October 26, 1997, he married Christina L. (Hefner) Strader, who survives.
Survivors include two daughters, LaVonne Stump (husband Tim), Buckhannon, and Sheila Lunsford ( husband David), of Weston; three sons, John Strader, III, (fiance Amy Gibson) Weston, Skyler H and Tyler W Strader, both at home; three grandsons, Matt Black, Weston, John Paul Lunsford, Weston, and John Strader, IV, of Neptune, N.J.; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Blake) Conrad, Jane Lew, and Nina Stump, of Buckhannon; one great-grandchild, Grant Conrad, of Jane Lew, four brothers, Thomas D. Goldsmith, of Weston, James B. McCutcheon, of Tx., Henry A. Strader, of Jane Lew, and Roscoe E. Strader, of Ohio; five sisters, Barbara L. Wilt, of Weston, Joetta S. Clem, of Weston, Linda M. Cantu, of Weston, Carnelia J. Roupe, of Buckhannon, and Debra Mets, of Weston; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and best friend raised as a brother, Jim Hitt, of Weston.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Ann Riffle; and two sisters, Mary C. McCutcheon and Judith D. McCutcheon.
Mr. Strader worked in Virginia until 1961, and then began his employment with J. E. Hitt Garage in Weston, where he was employed from 1962-2003. He served in the US. Army from 1954 to 1956, and he served sixteen months in the Korean Conflict. He attended the Victory Assembly of God in Weston, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Freeman's Creek. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1376 of Weston, and enjoyed fishing, horseshoes and bingo. He was a former State Horseshoe Champion.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel, where the Reverend Mark Anderson officiated. Interment followed at the Broad Run cemetery in the Lightburn Addition in Jane Lew.
Claude E. Taylor
Claude E. Taylor, 71, of 218 Court Ave., Weston, died at 4 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2004 in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born September 23, 1932, in Weston, a son of the late Lewis Burton Taylor and Novis (Bond) Taylor.
On September 19, 1951, he married Betty Jean (Greathouse) Taylor, who preceded him in death on January 13, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Carroll Taylor.
Survivors include one son, Gail Lewis Taylor, of Wendell, N.C., one daughter, Donna Taylor Wilson, of Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Vanessa Nicole Taylor, Buckhannon, and Brandy Danielle Fisher, of Weston; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brooklin and Destinee Fisher, all of Weston; Zachary and Nicholas Gifford, both of Buckhannon; two brothers and a sisters-in-law, Cledith "Pete" Taylor (wife Carol), and Coye Bond Taylor (wife Parry), both of Route 4, Weston.
Mr. Taylor was the owner and operator of T&W Auto Sales in Pricetown for several years. He was previously an apprentice tool and die maker for General Motors in Cleveland, Ohio, with several years of service.
He was a Protestant.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel in Weston. Interment was followed in the Freemansburg cemetery.
Eva Jane Fisher
Eva Jane (Burkhammer) Fisher, 78, of 140 High Street, Weston, died at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Crestview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jane Lew, following an extended illness.
She was born September 21, 1925, in Alice, Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Homer Burkhammer and Florence (Turner) Burkhammer. She was twice married. First on March 17, 1945, to Marshall Riddle, who preceded her in death. Then to William Matthew Fisher on November 8, 1963, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by three brother, Glayden Burkhammer, Hobert Burkhammer, and Junior Burkhammer; and two sisters, Beulah Henline and Regina Sentelle.
Survivors include one daughter, Glenice Stalnaker of Camden; one son, Samuel L. Fisher of Weston; three grandchildren, Matthew Todd Hosey, Brittany Fisher, and Brent Fisher, all of Weston; two sisters, Nora Ables and Luella Boilon, both of Weston; a sister-in-law, Martha Hardway of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fisher retired from Weston State Hospital with many years of service. She attended the Weston Church of God.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 2, at 3:00 p.m. from the Floyd Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Weston Masonic cemetery.
Martin Groves
Martin Willie Groves, 27, of 7964 Oil Creek Road, Roanoke, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born December 19, 1976, in Upshur County, a son of Howard Ira Groves and Dessie Vivian Knight Groves, both who survive at Oil Creek.
Also surviving are two brothers, James Ira Groves and Nelson Howard Groves, both of Oil Creek; three nephews, Cody and Ethan Groves and Robbie Albright; a special loved one, Casey Riffle; maternal grandmother, Dessie Curtis of Weston; and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Groves was a member of the Burnsville Church of God.
Friends may call at the Church of God in Weston on Fourth Street, Wednesday, June 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, from the Church of God with the Reverend Randall Hughes and the Reverend Eddie Barker officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Waitman Hefner
Waitman Robert Lewis Hefner, 70, of 130-A Minnich Street, Weston, died at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, May 31, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born June 13, 1933, in Lewis County, a son of the late William and Ruth Smith Hefner.
He was twice married. First to Mary Louise Linger Allman on May 6, 1960, who preceded him in death October 2, 1985. Then on October 7, 1988, he married Anita V. Cawthon, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Jerry L. Hefner of Gilbert, S.C.; step-daughter, Anna Belle Casto of Horner; two sisters, Doris J. Hefner of Ireland and Bonnie Wilfong of Warren, Ohio; four grandchildren, Andy Casto, R.J., Alisha, and Jeremy Hefner; and one great-grandchild, Latoria Casto.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Opal Jackson; two brothers, Victor and John Hefner; and an infant sister.
Mr. Hefner was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force, life member of the Pringle Tree DAV and the Bartlett American Legion Post #7, both of Buckhannon. He was an avid fisherman and member of the New Life Southern Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, from the New Life Southern Baptist Church with the Reverend Robert P. Perrine and the Reverend William Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in the Miller cemetery.
Full military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #4, DAV Chapter #51, Central West Virginia Chapter #697 Order Military Purple Heart, VFW Post #1976, and American Legion Post #166.
