Elizabeth Jean ‘Libby’ Critchley

DANESE — Elizabeth Jean “Libby” Critchley, 61, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

She was the daughter of the late Everett and Ethel Hanks Skaggs.

Mrs. Critchley was a homemaker and was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Kenneth Skaggs.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth R. Critchley; a son, Kenneth Ray Critchley II of Stafford, Va.; a granddaughter, Norma Critchley-Matthews of Stafford; a sister, Carol Hicks of Amherst, Ohio; and four brothers, Robert of Ansted, Danny and Herb, both of Victor, and Thomas Skaggs of Berlin Heights, Ohio.

Service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Eddy Ewing

Eddy Ewing, born Feb. 23, 1937, of Highland, son of the late Earl and Bertha Carter Ewing, passed away Dec. 29, 2005, at the VA hospital in Beckley.

Eddy served in the Army, SPC 3 Airborne Tank. He was a shop foreman for Industrial Brake, a brake specialist of heavy equipment and part owner of Mountaineer Brake at Beckley. He also worked for Bobby Vance Tree Co. and Kurby Lumber Co., was part owner with his twin brother, Teddy, at an Esso gas station at Layland and was an ex-coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his loving memory include brothers, Johnny Ewing of Prince and twin brother Teddy Ewing of Layland; sisters, Virginia Duncan of Terry, Erma Patterson and husband, Ray, of Beckley, Alfreda Ewing of Lanark, Helen Ames and husband, Don, of Florida and Janie Nadiar of California; and his loving companion of 46 years, Gertrude Adkins; a son, Dennis Ewing and wife, Lois, of Piney View; a stepson, Lee Roy Adkins and wife, Kathy, of Piney View; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gustinski and husband, Greg, of Piney View and Tasha Ewing of Piney View; two grandsons, Lee Roy Adkins II and wife, Melissa, of Beaver and Jason Ewing of Piney View; five great-grandchildren, Megan Adkins, Michael Gustinski, Chase Gustinski and Jaydon Ewing, all of Piney View, and Riley Adkins of Beaver; 40 nieces and nephews; and loving friends and neighbors.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with the Rev. Bill Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Jason Ewing, Lee Roy Adkins II, Greg Gustinski, David Farley, Sammy Duncan and Ray Patterson.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, is serving the family.

Curtis J. Greenlee

Memorial service for Curtis J. Greenlee, 60, of Beckley, was Dec. 18, 2005, in Killeen, Texas.

Mr. Greenlee died Nov. 6, 2005, in Beckley following a long illness.

Roger Todd Hatfield

BROWNING FORK — Roger Todd Hatfield, 22, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer, Hampden. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Dana Ruth Kelly

JUPITER, Fla. — Dana Ruth Kelly, 86, formerly of Nettie, Nicholas County, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home, Summersville. Friends may call a half hour before service Sunday at the funeral home.

Helen Marie Lewis

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Helen Marie Pifer Lewis, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kenneth Jackson Meadows

HINTON — Kenneth Jackson Meadows, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton. Friends may call noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral parlors.

Vesta I. Rinehart Moses

OAK HILL — Vesta I. Rinehart Moses, 99, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Hidden Valley Healthcare Center in Oak Hill following a short illness.

Born Oct. 30, 1906, at Kincaid, she was the daughter of the late John and Lottie Payne Rinehart.

Mrs. Moses was a homemaker and a seamstress.

She was a member of Oak Hill Gospel Tabernacle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oather Moses; two sons, Dallas Woodrum and John R. Woodrum; a grandson, Gary Woodrum; six brothers, Roy, Dallas, Walter, Glenn, David and Edward Rinehart; three sisters, Ida Arthur, Emma Nickell and Ethel Gibson; two half brothers, Cleve and Luther Rinehart; and a half sister, Vada Patterson.

Survivors include a son, Lowell Moses and wife, Rosalie, of Divide, Colo.; a daughter, Mava Whitlock and husband, James, of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Rose Woodrum of Princeton; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Allen Gallimore and the Rev. Ben Gentile officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Robert ‘Chip’ Pauley Jr.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Robert B. “Chip” Pauley Jr., 58, formerly of Crab Orchard, Ky., and Tampa, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.

He was born March 7, 1947, in Mullens, the son of the late Robert B. “Rab” Sr. and Vivian Doris Poff Pauley.

He was the husband of Darla Jean McKenzie Pauley, whom he married on Oct. 13, 1979.

As a child, he loved all sports, especially baseball, basketball and boxing, and he later went on to be a professional boxer in the middleweight division. His favorite hobby was woodworking. He was self-employed in the home window construction business. He was a former general manager for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Tampa and former vice president of a subsidiary of Aluminum Industries in Jacksonville, Fla. Most of all he was known to his family as the family prankster who loved to joke around and cut up with his family whom he loved so dearly.

He was a member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church in Mullens.

Besides his dear wife, Darla, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Alan Pauley of Fort Wright, Ky., and Robert B. Pauley III of Florida; a brother, M.E. “Mike” Pauley and wife, Loretta, of Land O’Lakes, Fla.; mother-in-law, Ruth Armstrong of Crab Orchard, Ky.; and father-in-law, Eugene McKenzie Jr. of Springboro, Ohio.

Service will be 3 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel, 229 Main St., Crab Orchard, Ky., with the Rev. Jan McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 2 p.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Seventh Day Adventist Church, c/o Richard Hambley, 946 Mason Headley Road, Lexington, KY 40504, attention Mrs. Darla Pauley, member services.

Joseph Donald Trent

GILBERT — Joseph Donald Trent, 76, a native of Gilbert, Mingo County, and having resided at Route 1, Scarbro, for the past 27 years, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.

Born July 15, 1929, at Man, he was the son of the late Tolbert Rush Mitchell Trent and Myrtle Louemma Allen Trent, and the grandson of the late David Trent and Causby Brewster Trent, who were of Gilbert, and Robert Allen and Estelle Maude Christian Allen, who were of Huntington.

While growing up in Gilbert, Joseph was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Trent served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. After his service ended, he worked at Ward’s Furniture Store in Gilbert, Mac’s Maytag and Honaker Nelson’s Furniture, both in South Charleston, Kelly and Kohen in Dunbar and John W. Eye and Crossroads Mall, both in Beckley.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, and his wife of 40 years, Dolores Marie Brown Trent.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Marie Trent of Route 1, Scarbro; a brother, Jack Trent and his wife, Elizabeth Smith Trent, of Louisville, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Linda Brown Duba and her husband, Woodrow Duba, of Route 1, Scarbro; brother-in-law, James Harrison Brown and his wife, Pamela Matson Brown, of Davin; a sister-in-law, Shirley Mavis Blankenship Brown of Cyclone; five nieces and five nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Revs. Jackie Lusk and Arlotte Stover officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps, “Semper Fi.”

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky, Eric and Jimmy Brown, Bobby Brown Jr., Woodrow Duba and Joe Richmond. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Duba and James Jarrett Sr.

Arrangements by High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main St., Oak Hill.

Ricky Ray Williams

Ricky Ray Williams, 46, of Clear Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Hilltop Health Care following a short illness.

Born Feb. 22, 1959, in Beckley, he was the son of Stella Mae Bailey Williams of Hilltop and the late Virgil Ray Williams. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lorn Williams.

Ricky attended Ewings Creek Church.

Besides his mother, other survivors include a brother, Randy Lee Williams and his wife, Angie, of Toney Fork; and four nephews, Cecil, Buford and Timmy Williams and Dillard Jack.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Ewings Creek Church with the Rev. Loretta Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Toney’s Fork cemetery, Ewing Creek.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Linda Wood

MONROE, Ga. — Linda Wood, 60, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006.

She was born in Raleigh County on Oct. 31, 1945, to the late Thomas Elmer Fortner and the late Ruth Kathleen Walker Fortner.

Survivors include her husband, David Wood; daughters, Carla Waddell of Monroe and Alicia Peppers of Winder, Ga.; a son, Tim Waddell of Dawsonville, Ga.; a sister, Karen Brewster of Concord, N.C.; a brother, Rick Fortner of Beckley; and six grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Monroe World Outreach Center with the Rev. Raymond Hardy officiating.
