FAYETTE COUNTY — Virginia E. Martinez, 71, was called to heaven Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005.
She was born March 28, 1934, the daughter of Clyde and Nelly Adkins of Fayette County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan G. Martinez. She is survived by her sister, Inez Adkins; and her brother, Arthur Adkins. She is also survived by her daughter, Juanita E. Martinez; and her husband, Stephen M. Lawrence, of Newport News, Va.; her sons Michael and his wife, Bobbi Martinez, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Franklin C. Martinez of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., John W. Martinez of Illinois, and Joseph L. Martinez of Illinois. She leaves behind ten grandchildren, Christina E. Calveiro and Amanda E. Martinez; and six great-grandchildren.
This woman was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be truly missed by all.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive Beckley with Pastor Ruth Goins officiating. Burial will follow in Harrah cemetery, Backus Mountain, Fayette County, W.Va.
Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Helen Marie Mock
Helen Marie Mock, 62, of Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Hinton Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at Womack Army Medical Center in Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Born Feb. 27, 1943, in Hinton, she was the youngest child and daughter of the late Zina P. and Vergie Marie Ellison Mock.
Helen Marie had many life fulfilling accomplishments. She was the first woman elected to the Summers County Commission. She was also the former owner/operator of Country Roads Store at Pence Springs, W.Va. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her greatest lifetime accomplishment was as a mother.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Anderson
She is survived by two sons, Greggory and wife, Diane Burdette, of Finksburg, Md., and Scott Burdette of Cameron, N.C.; two grandchildren; Gina and Alex Burdette of Cameron, N.C.; three brothers, Robert and wife, Helen Mock, of Hilldale, W.Va., Donald and wife, Margie Mock, of Hinton, W.Va., and Billy Mock of Pueblo, CO; four sisters; Peggy Garrett of Hinton, W.Va., Eleanor Snider and husband Russ of Glen Morgan, W.Va., Audrey Southerland and husband Jack of Roanoke, Va., and Jean Persinger of Bluewell, W.Va.
She will also be sadly missed by Robert White and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton, with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton.
Friends may call 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Patty Naylor
Patty Naylor, 64, of Surveyor, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born May 4, 1941, at Posey, she was the daughter of Ruby Milam of Saxon and the late Jethro Webb.
Mrs. Naylor was a homemaker. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Monroe, N.C. She had made her home in Charlotte, N.C., for many years, returning to Raleigh County the past seven years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis Daniel; her second husband, Ken Naylor; a brother, Jerry Webb; and a sister, Geraldine Vipperman.
Besides her mother, other survivors include her children, Dave Daniel of Beckley, Rocky Daniel and wife, Donna, of North Carolina, and Sandy Scott of Florida; grandchildren, Dennis Scott and wife, Lou, of Daniels, Amber Scott of Virginia, Toni Daniel of Beckley, Wesley Daniel and wife, Nicole, of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Andrew Williams, Tristen Scott, Jeremiah Scott, Virginia Daniel and Damian Daniel; brother, Charles Cook and wife, Ellen, of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Ernestine Aliff of Saxon, and Rita Clay and husband, Doug, of Cleveland, Ohio; sister-in-law, Shirley Webb of Beckley; special cousin, June Milam of Oceana; special friends, Leroy and Lucy White of Surveyor. She was special to all who knew her.
Service will be 12 noon Thursday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Sandra Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Virginia Marie Skaggs
Virginia Marie Skaggs, 88, a resident of Greystone Inn at Beaver, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 8, 2005, following a long illness.
Born March 6, 1917, at Thayer, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Thomas Settle Sr. and Ethel Neacie Morton Settle.
Mrs. Skaggs attended college for two years at New River State College (WV Tech). She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beckley and a girl scout troop leader. She worked for Gilmer Insurance Agency and was a former employee of the Bank of Raleigh. While in Beckley, she served as president of Woodrow Wilson High School band mothers. In 1963, she moved to Clearwater, Fla., where she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rotary in Bellaire Bluffs, Fla. She was a member of the Board of Realtors in Clearwater, Fla., and served as a volunteer at Suncoast Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Mark Skaggs; a sister, Dorothy Settle McCutcheon, and a brother, John Settle.
Surviving children are Patricia Marie Smith and husband, Harry, of Blairsville, Ga., Thomas Mark Skaggs and wife, Margaret, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Alfred Mack Skaggs of Beckley, W.Va.; a brother, Benjamin T. Settle Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Nina Neff of Cross Lanes, W.Va., and Lucille Campbell of Hurricane, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Shelley Smith, Alan Skaggs, Shea Loewen, Todd Skaggs, Angela Farmer, Vickie Champlin and Ivy Jo Leate; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be noon Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, 1901 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, with Pastor Rollan Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Alan Skaggs, Todd Skaggs, Gary McCutcheon, Jeary Neff, David Lickliter and Randy Lickliter.

Susan Lucy Bragg
Susan Lucy Bragg, 94, of Sullivan, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born June 4, 1911, at Sullivan, she was the daughter of the late James Everett Richmond and Sally Beth Jones Richmond.
Mrs. Bragg was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith and a born-again Christian. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She lived in the Sullivan area most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Bragg, four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include a son, Ray Bragg and wife, Debbie, of Coal City; daughters, Helen West of Coal City, Eva Bragg at home and Eresell Troxell of Westminster, Md.; brothers, Fred Richmond of Glen Morgan and Charlie Richmond of Crab Orchard; sister, Myrtle Lamb of Crab Orchard; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Clarence Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Tilden cemetery, Sullivan.

Bettie Jean Ford
RONCEVERTE — Bettie Jean Ford, 78, of Ronceverte, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center after a long illness.
Born Dec. 2, 1928, at Ronceverte, she was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, a devout Catholic and a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Ronceverte. She was a 1946 graduate of St. Peter’s Academy in Cleveland, Ohio, and was employed by the West Virginia Department of Employment Security for many years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Bush, in 1978.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frank Edward Ford; two sons, Mark S. Ford of Slate Hill, N.Y., and Matthew E. Ford and his wife, Dee, of Ronceverte; two grandchildren, Eric and Haley Dawn Ford, both at home; and an uncle, Bill Stone of Ronceverte.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Ronceverte, with Father John McGinnity officiating. Mass and Christian burial will follow at Riverview cemetery, Ronceverte.

Ann Gravley
Mary “Ann” Gravley, born Oct. 19, 1937, at Man, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital of a heart attack. She went to meet her reward surrounded by her loving husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many loving friends and relatives.
She was a homemaker and was the owner of Gravley’s Greenhouse for many years. She was an active member of Spoken Word Tabernacle at Beaver for the last 41 years. She loved to garden, sew, quilt and raise beautiful flowers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, William “Arthur” Lehman, a sister, Linda Sue Lehman, and a great-grandson, Andrew Mark Gravley.
She is survived by her mother, Blanche Lehman of Beckley; her husband of 50 years, Charles “Bert” Gravley of Old Eccles Road; three children, Patricia Gravley, William “Bill” Gravley and David “Bert” Gravley, and his wife, Lisa, all of Beckley, nine grandchildren, Michael Gravley and his wife, Charissa, of Johnson City, Tenn., Celestial Wiggins and her husband, Sean, of Johnson City, Daniel Gravley and his wife, Joanna, of Daniels, Matthew Gravley of Beckley, Amanda Gravley of Ripley, and Kristin, Kayla, Emily and Rachael Gravley, all of Beckley; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Kate Gravley of Johnson City; five brothers, Gene Lehman and his wife, Janet, of Shady Spring, Orville Lehman and his wife, Nelda, of Beckley, Jerry Lehman of Terre Haute, Ind., Douglas Lehman and his wife, Rita, of Hollywood, Ala., and Kenny Lehman and his wife, Candi, of Durbin; five sisters, Audra Mastroppolito of Sophia, Virginia Lilly and her husband, Charles, of Peoples, Ohio, Evonne Stanley of Beckley, Kathy Seaman and her husband, Chester, of Charleston, S.C., and Nancy Stanley and her husband, Warner, of Prosperity; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
