HINTON — Pauline Keaton, 85, passed away peacefully with a smile on her face surrounded by her daughter, granddaughters and niece on Wednesday afternoon Dec. 14, 2005, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born April 23, 1920 at Farley, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Elizabeth Pearl Petrey Lilly.
Pauline was a retired press operator with 30 years of service at Keaton Laundry. She loved quilting and was always lending a helping hand. She was a lifelong resident of Summers County, living the past 53 years in Hinton. While she was a resident at the Summers County ARH long-term care unit, she helped with activities and also with other patients.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Arnold “Jack” Keaton, on Dec. 13, 1987; a son, Arnold Lee Keaton, on Jan. 30, 1978; a son-in-law, Robert Franklin Ratcliffe, whom she thought of as a son, on Oct. 18, 2005; two brothers, Delbert and Woodrow Lilly; and a sister, Frances Duncan.
Survivors include a daughter, Shealvey Jean Keaton Ratcliffe of Cave Ridge; a niece whom she raised from infancy as a daughter, Betty Ann Garten Canterbury and husband, Elvis, of Ballengee; a sister, Ruth Garten of Hinton; a brother, Rassie Lilly and wife, Florence, of Brooks; a grandson, Robert Franklin Ratcliffe Jr. and wife, Jeanette, of Pipestem; three granddaughters, Tamara Susan Lilly and husband, Denny, and Deborah Jean Ballengee and husband, Troy, all of Cave Ridge, and Rebecca Dawn Knecht and husband, Richard, of Kundletown, Pa.; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Pearl Ratcliffe of Pipestem, Romantha J. Turner and husband, Jon, of Cool Ridge, Amy Justice and husband, Jason, and Joshua T. Lilly and wife, Brittany, all of Cave Ridge, and Jonathan M., Richard and Robert Knecht, all of Kundletown; two great-great-grandchildren, Emily J. Justice of Cave Ridge and Miles M. Turner of Cool Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pivont Funeral Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor David Board officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount cemetery, Pipestem. Friends may call noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Gloria C. ‘Bootie’ Lester
NORTH SPRING — Gloria C. “Bootie” Parson Lester, 67, completed her earthly journey to be with her Lord on Thursday morning, Dec. 15, 2005, at her residence following her courageous battle with cancer for the past eight months.
Mrs. Lester was born Jan. 20, 1938, at Iaeger, the daughter of the late John Clayburn Parsons and Pauline Blanch Newberry Parsons Porter.
Gloria was a devoted educator following her graduation from Concord College and having received her Master’s of Business Administration from Marshall University. She taught business education at Baileysville High School for 34 1/2 years. She also served as yearbook sponsor, cheerleading coach, welcomed visitors at the entrance at sports events and ran bingo games to support her school. She was recognized as the Teacher of the Year in 1998. To keep her students abreast to changing technology in the business world, she founded the first computer education program in Wyoming County. She was affiliated with North Spring Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert D. Porter; and a brother, Jimmy Parsons.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Dale Lester Sr.; her daughter, Lisa Dawn New and husband, Randall, of North Spring; her son, Curtis Dale Lester Jr. of North Spring; a brother, Jerry Lee Parsons of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Heath Ellis of Hanover and Donavan New and Mackenzie New, both of North Spring; and two great-grandchildren. Additionally, several nieces and nephews mourn her loss.
Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home, Iaeger, with the Revs. William Cook, Jackie Lester and Arnold Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial cemetery, Roderfield.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Dale Lester Jr., Randall New, Donavan New, Shaun New, Ralph New, Danny Mullens and Heath Ellis.

Ernest W. Logan
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Ernest W. Logan, 87, of Fredericksburg, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005.
Ernest was born April 6, 1918, to the late Grant and Claudia Logan of Odd. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Melba Logan; his daughter, Gloria Canaday; a grandson, Richard Cline; a great-grandson, Max Musselman; two brothers, E.I. Logan and Calvin Logan; and two sisters, Grace Fines and Ruth White.
In his younger years he worked as a coal miner, on the West Virginia Turnpike and in his father’s saw mills for many years. In 1955, he moved to Fredericksburg to work for General Products where he retired as a foreman in 1980. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He loved to watch television, especially old westerns, and never missed “Walker Texas Ranger.”
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Flohr and her husband, Morris, of Fairview Beach, Va., and Brenda Cline and her husband, Rick, of Spotsylvania, Va.; a son-in-law, Donald Canaday of Spotsylvania; six grandchildren, David and Daniel Canaday, Trisha Musselman, Teresa Pates, Donna Canaday and Stacy Rothschild; five great-grandchildren, Chasity Musselman, Lindsay and Taylor Pates, Derek Canaday and Logan Rothschild; a brother, Lloyd Logan of West Virginia; and three sisters, Lorean Wallace, Shorty Walker and Nora Jane Fink, all of West Virginia.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Covenant Funeral Service, 4801 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Fredericksburg, with Rev. John DeJong officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MOUNT NEBO — Leduris A. “L.A.” Moses passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at the age of 89 in Summersville Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was the son of the late William McClung Moses and Sarah Keffer Moses.
He retired from Island Creek Coal Co. in 1983 after 37 years of service.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, Mason, past master of Summersville Lodge No. 76 AF and AM, past high priest, Sewell Chapter No. 24, royal arch Mason, past commander, Mount Hope Commandry No. 22, Knights of the York Cross of Honor, Shriner, member of the Beni Kedem Temple, past president, Nicholas Shrine Club, past worthy patron, Eastern Star, past watchman of shepards of White Shrine of Jerusalem, and a member of the Richwood Rotary Club.
He was a member of Gilgal Methodist Church, Mount Nebo.
Mose, as he was known, is survived by two sons, Eddie and wife, Margaret Moses, of Canonsburg, Pa., and Kirk Moses of Eagle River (Anchorage), Alaska; three sisters, Bonnie Fritts of Mount Nebo, Virginia Hayslett of Mount Lookout and Helen Mullens of Charleston; a brother, Veon Moses of Mount Nebo; a grandson, Matthew and wife, Melissa Moses, of Louisville, Ky.; and a great-grandson, Zackary Moses.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Harold Francis and Pastor Jim Daily officiating. Burial will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.

Bernard ‘Bernie’ Freeman Moye
ORLANDO, Fla. — Bernard “Bernie” Freeman Moye, 79, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Oswald on Feb. 11, 1926. He grew up in Prosperity and graduated from West Virginia University.
Mr. Moye was an Army officer (1st lieutenant) and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
In 1954, he moved from West Virginia to Florida. He spent his professional life using his talents as a school teacher, salesman and real estate broker. He taught real estate courses in central Florida for over 10 years. He welcomed the newest technologies; he enthusiastically used his computer frequently. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed being with his immediate family; he so looked forward to our times together. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten from our thoughts and hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; three sons, Bernie, Ron and Jim; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for visitation 5 to 7 p.m. today at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Woodland cemetery Road, Orlando.
Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ruby L. Shifflet Parker
RAINELLE — Ruby L. Shifflet Parker, 70, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., following a long illness.
Born Oct. 13, 1935, in Gilmer County, she was the daughter of the late James and Ruby Leo Kynnersley Shifflet.
Also preceding her in death were her husbands, Charles Douglas and John C. Parker.
She was a member of Sturgen Branch Baptist Church in Rainelle and a retired food service worker, having worked in several different restaurants. She loved to sew and work crossword puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrance Glenn of Kansas City, Kan., and Arthur Barkeloo of Sarasota, Fla.; four daughters, Janelle Thaxton of Wildwood, Fla., Teresa Glenn, address unknown, Locie Compton of Wildwood and Charllynne Berry of Rainelle; a sister, Irene of Kansas City; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton. Burial will follow in Bug Ridge cemetery, Sutton.

Clyde ‘Pete’ W. Parrish Sr.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, Clyde “Pete” Woodrow Parrish Sr. died in a Beckley hospital. He had been in declining health for a number of years. He was in his 86th year.
Born Jan. 22, 1919, he was the son of the late George J. and Nettie Hutchinson Parrish.
Clyde spent his childhood at Tolleytown and was a graduate of Trap Hill High School. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II where he was a combat veteran. He was a retired brakeman from the railroad. Clyde was a member of Open Door Church at Shady Spring. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing at Lake View Country Club at Cool Ridge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith McGhee and Athnel Hendricks; and a brother, Clarence Parrish.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Leona Milam Parrish; a daughter, Dianna Jackson of Statesboro, Ga.; three sons, Gary Parrish and his wife, Becky, and Clyde “Pete” Parrish, all of Beckley, and Marvin “Merve” Parrish of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Selena Parrish of Adairsville, Ga., Paige McQuillen of Daniels and Kris Parrish of Beckley; two sisters, Naomi Hajash and Kathleen Lively, both of Beckley; a brother, Ed Parrish of Tampa, Fla.; nine nieces and four nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Jeanette R. McCoin Adkins
BEELICK KNOB — Jeanette R. McCoin Adkins, 84, of Beelick Knob, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, in The Brier Rehabilitation Center at Fairlea following a long illness.
Born May 17, 1922, at Fireco, she was the daughter of the late Emory Lark and Ora Elizabeth Steakley McCoin.
Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker and a retired housekeeper for the George Aide family. She then was a housekeeper for Randy and Andi (Aide) Pendleton. While serving in both of their employments, she was also instrumental in the upbringing of their children. She was of the Baptist faith and faithfully attended Millbrook Baptist Church at Crickmer until her illness prevented her from doing do. She also attended Sewell Valley Baptist Church at Rainelle many years before that.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J. Adkins, in 1997; a son, James E. Adkins; two sisters, Naomi McCoin and Betty Gadd; and a brother, James McCoin.
Survivors include five daughters, Bunnie Wickline of Meadow Bridge, Janet Redden of Sweet Water, Tenn., Rachel McClung and husband, Terry, of Danese, Drema Pugh and husband, Richard, of Selma, N.C., and Rebecca Rudinec and husband, Stephen, of Iron Mountain, Mich.; three sons, Michael Adkins and wife, Kay, of Meadow Bridge, David Adkins and wife, Taletha, of Bowan, Ga., and Wesley Adkins and wife, Drema Lee, of Fairchild, Mich.; four brothers, Lee McCoin and wife, Mary, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Marvin McCoin and wife, Julie, of Rockwood, Tenn., Gene McCoin and wife, Holly, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Arnold McCoin and wife, Betty, of Fairmont, Ind.; three sisters, Juanita Bennett of Gaston, Ind., Helen Rowe of Oak Hill and Sue White and husband, Norman, of Matthews, Ind.; 24 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
