Richard ‘Babe’ Thomas Wilson
Richard “Babe” Thomas Wilson, 71, of Rock Lick, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at his home following a long illness.
Born Dec. 26, 1933, at Beards Fork, he was the son of the late Donald Wilson and Hazel Davis Wilson.
Richard was a retired U.S. Army veteran, having served overseas in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Faye Hammen.
Survivors include his children, Thomas Wilson and his wife, Jody, of Rock Lick, Donald Wilson and his wife, Jessica, of Louisville, Ky., Donna Jiminez and her husband, Miguel, of Louisville, Richard “Ricky” Wilson of Texas and Eric Johnson and his wife, Carla, of Fayetteville; four brothers, Frances “Buster” Wilson and his wife, Marilyn, of Oak Hill, Roland Dale Wilson and his wife, Sandy, of Puyallup, Wash., Michael Wilson of Oak Hill and Donald Wilson of Oak Hill; three sisters, Wanda Sue Aliff and her husband, Benny, of Sanger, Joyce Ann Pauli and her husband, Robert, of Florida and Linda Sharpe of Rock Lick; and four grandchildren.
Service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Jerry Bush officiating. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post 3110 Honor Guard. Interment in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Willie Mae Barnett
BALTIMORE — Willie Mae Barnett, 59, formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, following a short illness.
Born in Beckley, she was the daughter of Evelyn Barnett of Baltimore, Md., and the late Willie D. Barnett.
Ms. Barnett catered at New Psalms Baptist Chuch in Baltimore for 15 years. She was a member of New Psalms Baptist Church and a 1964 graduate of Stratton High School.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita B. Brinkley; a brother, Daniel Barnett; and her grandfather, James Arnold.
Survivors include a son, Eric Barnett of Baltimore; a daughter-in-law, Samone of Baltimore; granddaughter, Beverly Mae Barnett of Baltimore; grandmother, Bessie Arnold of Beckley; two sisters, a twin, Jean Barnett, and Evangeline Barnett, both of Baltimore; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jules ‘Frenchie’ Gautier
PENHOOK, Va. — Jules “Frenchie” Gautier, 85, of Penhook, formerly of Itmann, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006.
Born June 30, 1920, he was a son of the late Joe and Martha Gautier.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and made seven successful jumps behind enemy lines. He spent over 40 years in the coal mines and was a former owner and operator of Fossil Fuel Coal Corp. in Wyoming County. He also spent seven years as a federal coal mine inspector. Upon retirement from the coal mines he moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Va., and opened Frenchie and Ruth’s Mini Mart in Penhook.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Olga Ruffino, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Mary Gautier; sons, Jules Gautier Jr. of Gary and Jack Gautier of Penhook; grandchildren and their spouses, Jules “Jay” III and Mary Gautier of Mullens, Jeremy “Punckie” and Wynetta Gautier of New Richmond, Jason and Julie Gautier of Beckley, Chasity and John McBroom of Laffette, Va., and Brandon Gautier of Roanoke, Va.; eight great-grandchildren, Jamie, Hunter, Hannah, Tye, Isabella, Ayla, Rachael and Melissa; a sister, Catherine Hill and husband, Max, of Biloxi, Miss.; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Penhook United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judith Short officiating. Interment will follow in Liberty Memorial Gardens with military honors.

WAITEVILLE — Lois Catherine Hale, 85, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 10, 2006, at Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Born Jan. 2, 1921, at Waiteville, she was a daughter of the late Ira Burke and Mattie Woods Porterfield.
Mrs. Hale was a homemaker who loved gardening and working for the community. She was also a member of New Zion Union Church, Waiteville.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Harless and Alice Porterfield; two brothers, Joseph M. Porterfield and Billie Burke Porterfield; an infant daughter; and a son-in-law, Darrell R. Baker.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Beland and her husband, Phil, of Catawba, Va., and Karen Dillion and her husband, Clarence, of Lindside; a sister, Sharon Farley of Bluefield; four grandchildren, Dawn Barlow, Dana and Derrick Beland, and Steven Baker; two step grandchildren, Eric Dillion and Amy Lewis; five great-grandchildren, Sean and Philip Barlow, Elijah and Abigail Beland, and Jessica Guade; and a step great-grandson, Matt Dillion.

Willard S. ‘Friday’ Hamrick
FENWICK MOUNTAIN — Willard S. “Friday” Hamrick, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, in Richwood Area Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born Oct. 28, 1919, he was the son of the late Oscar and Launa Hamrick.
Mr. Hamrick was a veteran of World War II, was in the CCC, retired from Sewell Coal Co. with 44 years of service and was a member of the UMWA.
“Friday” was a holder of the Bronze Medal from Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association for his heroic efforts that saved the lives of four coal miners in 1958 after an explosion at the Olgebay Norton Mine near Richwood.
He was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church, Fenwick Mountain, member of the Nicholas County Farm Bureau, member of Summersville Masonic Lodge No. 76, AF and AM, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Shrine, a honorary member of the Beni Kedem Oriental Band, and he was president of the Nicholas Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen “Gussie” Hamrick; a son, Bobby Joe Hamrick; a great-granddaughter, Alanta Cotrill; and a brother, Clyde Hamrick.
Survivors include five sons, Roger Hamrick of Charleston, Gary Hamrick, Willis Hamrick and Donnie Hamrick, all of Fenwick Mountain, and Ronnie Hamrick of Richwood; three daughters, Kay Swearingen of Richwood and Bonnie Bennett and Kathy Orndorff, both of Fenwick Mountain; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Leora Collins of Nettie, Arletta Grimmett of Webster Springs, Helen Knight of Strasburg, Va., Elenora Boggs of Fenwick Mountain and Jean Chapman of Fenwick Mountain; and a brother, Eddie Hamrick of Summersville.

FALLS VIEW — Paul Fremont Hughes, 79, of Fayette County, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at his home in Falls View following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 30, 1926, at Dunbar, he was the son of the late Heber Jennings and Pearl Pierson Hughes.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Lee Hughes; a sister, Willie Nutter; a brother, Bobby Ray Hughes; and two granddaughters, Courtney and Ashley Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was a retired foreman from Elkem Metals Co. at Alloy with 41 years of service. He was a member of Boomer Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, member of Gauley Bridge VFW Post No. 8366, member of the Boomer Lions Club and a dispatcher at the former Valley Ambulance Service in Alloy.

She was the daughter of the late David Ferzacca and Frances Ginestra Alba and was born at Logan on Aug. 3, 1917.
She was the owner and operator of the Country Road Inn at Zela and a member of St. Martins In The Field Episcopal Church, Summersville.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Jarroll, in 2004.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Edward Lee Jarroll Jr. of Boston, Mass., and David Jarroll and wife, Lauren, and George A.
