MARIETTA, S.C. — Sandra Kay McManamay, age 41, of Marietta, S.C., formerly of Beckley, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at the University Hospital in Charleston, S.C., following a long illness.
Born on Aug. 10, 1965, at Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of Eva Sue Garner McKinney and stepdaughter of Dave McKinney of Tazewell, Va., and was the daughter of John Wesley McManamay of Shady Spring, W.Va.
Sandra was a waitress most of her life, and was of the Church of God Faith.
Surviving other than her parents are a brother, Paul Wesley McManamay of Tyler, Texas; sisters, Debra Sue Thomas and husband David of Marietta, S.C., Stephanie Absure and husband John of Tazewell, Va., and Margaret Ellen Brown and husband Duane of Tazewell, Va.; nieces and nephews, Brandon Thomas, Christian Thomas, Courtney Thomas, Scotty Bowling, and David Brown; and maternal grandmother, Margaret Garner of Shady Spring.
Private funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Beckley Church of God with Rev. George Garner and Rev. F.D. Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanaford cemetery at Stanaford, W.Va. A private visitation for family will be one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be David Thomas, Duane Brown, John Absure, Scotty Bowling, Fred and Michael Fox.

CALDWELL — Joy Meador Patterson, 72, of Caldwell, formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea, following a short illness.

C. Thomas Quesenberry, 79, died peacefully at the Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley, W.Va., following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Opie and Winifred Quesenberry of Lanark, W.Va.
Tom, a loving and caring husband, Dad and Poppy, will be missed every day by the loves of his life — wife, Opal, daughter, Calentha, and granddaughter, Molly Clendenin. He is also survived by two dear sisters, Evelyn Shanks and Carrie Kozar of New Jersey; a brother, Jack of Beckley; and many nieces and nephews.
Opal, Calentha, and Molly wish to extend special thanks to friends Jerry and Reva Good of Fayetteville, Matthew Wender of Oak Hill, the staff of the Fresinius Dialysis Center in Oak Hill, the professional team at the Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley who made Tom’s last few days on this earth joyful, and Dr. Ryan Newell, Fayette Clinic. And thanks to all of Tom’s many life-long neighbors and friends whose lives have been blessed by having known such a wonderful man.
There will be no service. A celebration of his new life will be held at a later date.

WHITESVILLE — James Allen “Jimmy” Swanigan, of Whitesville, died Saturday, May 5, 2007.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Sycamore Free Pentecostal Church of God, Colcord. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the church.

Karen Sue Diem Thomas
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Karen Sue Diem Thomas, 59, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007, in the Wellington Manor, Indianapolis, Ind., after a long illness.
Born May 9, 1947, in Ronceverte, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Nina Loudermilk Diem.
Mrs. Thomas had been a resident of Indianapolis, Ind., for seven years and was formerly of Ft. Spring, W.Va., member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church of Indianapolis, member of the Bridgeport Chapter #135, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a retired secretary.
Survivors include two daughters, Veronica McGraw and husband Jack of Alderson and Mercedes Weikle and husband David of Lewisburg; a son, Gabriel Thomas of Greensburg, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Ft. Spring, with Rev. Roy Gwinn officiating. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon cemetery, Pickaway.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jewell Dean Hughes Stine
SYLVESTER — Jewell Dean Hughes Stine, 72, of Sylvester, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Memorial Division, Charleston Area Medical Center, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born Jan. 5, 1935, at Birchton, the daughter of the late Oliver Basil Sr. and Connie R. Surrett Hughes.
Besides her parents, her husband, Robert L. Stine, and a brother, Oliver Basil Hughes Jr., preceded her in death.
She was a 1952 graduate of Sherman High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from Morris Harvey College and a master’s degree from Marshall University.
She was a member and former organist and pianist at First Baptist Church of Whitesville. She was a retired teacher for the Boone County Board of Education, having taught for 34 years at Whitesville Elementary and Junior High School.
She was a loving mother and “granny.” She also enjoyed swimming in her pool and taking care of her dogs and cats. She was actively involved in Mountaineer Boys State for many years. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her granddaughters.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Ann Williams of Seth and Cindy Burdette and husband, David, of Whitesville; a sister, Betty June Weikle of Sylvester; granddaughters, Hollie, Lindsey and Jenna of Whitesville; a nephew, Eddie Weikle and wife, Angie, and daughters, Megan and Sydney, of Racine; two stepgranddaughters, Jennifer Kiser and daughter, Lexie, of Ashford and Stephanie Williams and daughters, Bethany and Haley, of Racine; a special friend, Lynn Walker of Sylvester; and two caregivers, Brenda Buzzard and Debbie Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Whitesville, Benevolent Fund, c/o Margaret Walker, P.O. Box 147, Sylvester, WV 25193.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Whitesville, with the Rev. W. Howard Gwinn officiating. Singers will be the church choir. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

Ronald Keith Ward
Ronald Keith Ward, 51, of Glen White, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at his home.
Born Feb. 25, 1956, in Beckley, he was the son of Zelda Mae Whiting Ward Evans of Beckley and the late Ralph Harless Ward.
He was last employed as a commercial painter. Ron was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Keith Ward II of Glen White; three brothers, Ralph Edward Ward of Crab Orchard, Donald Gene Ward of Ghent and Richard Ward of Glen White; and a sister, Sharon Chiao of Mahony City, Pa.
Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope. Service will be 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Adkins officiating. Burial will be private at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Jacqueline Meadows Payne
FAYETTEVILLE — Jacqueline Jo Meadows Payne, 76, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
Born on February 19, 1931, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Deco and Mona Shumate Meadows.
Jacqueline was a retired Fayette County school teacher and a member of the Juno Beach United Methodist Church, Juno Beach, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald A. Payne, Jr. on Dec. 5, 1997.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Uvon Thies of Fayetteville; two daughters, Beverly Spangler and her husband, Larry, of Fayetteville, and Cheryl Payne and her husband, Mickey Brubaker, of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren, Jarrod Gometz and Chelsea Gometz, both of Fayetteville.
A private service will be held by the family.

Robert A. ‘Bob’ Blankenship Sr.
BLUEFIELD — Robert A. “Bob” Blankenship, Sr., 63, of Rt. 5 Box 266, Airport Road, Bluefield, WV, formerly of Welch, WV, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at his residence.
Born Oct. 30, 1943, at Big Sandy, WV, he was the son of George Blankenship Jr. of Bluefield and the late Helen Lambert Blankenship.
When he was able he attended the Pentecostal Revival Center in Princeton, Pastor Roger Walker; he worked eight years at HC Lewis Oil Company in Welch before going to work at # 50 US Steel Mining for 28 years, Pineville, WV. He was a main line motor man and load out operator. He was a member of Local Union 1713 Pineville and served his country in the U.S. Army and received an Honorable Discharge in the 1960s.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Blankenship.
In addition to his father George Blankenship Jr., survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 41 1/2 years, Rosella Swick Blankenship of the home; one son, Robert “Bobby” Blankenship Jr. and wife Teresa of Elkins, WV; one daughter, Terri Lynn Mullins and husband Robert of Rt. 20, Bluewell, WV; brothers, Michael Blankenship and wife Sandy of Millington, Tenn., and Kenneth Blankenship and wife Nancy of Gastonia, NC; sisters, Betty Richards and husband Fred of Hardy, Va., and June Martin and husband Roger of Coalwood, WV; grandchildren, Beau, Heather, Amy Lynn, Megan Rose, Amber, Marissa, Ashley, and Greg; great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Adam; special brother-in-law, Steve Toshi of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; special friends, like a brother, Tommy Stevens of Welch, Steven Walker of Twin Branch, and Ron Foster of Bluewell, plus many more.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Cravens Shires Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Roger Walker and Rev. Steve Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, WV, where the Mercer Co. Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites.
