Delmar Caleb Chase
LEWISBURG — Delmar Caleb Chase, 72, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born Feb. 23, 1934, at Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Cosmo and Lora Zicafoose Chase.
Del had graduated from the animal husbandry program at West Virginia University, was in the Army and spent 24 years in the grocery industry as well as 15 years with the State of West Virginia Job Service and Rehab programs.
Mr. Chase was a former coach with area youth baseball and a leader with both the Cub and Boy Scouts. He was a very active member with the Lewisburg Lions Club. A huge part of Del’s life involved Janes Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and was a certified lay speaker with the United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jan Bowen Chase, and a brother, Lynn Chase.
Survivors include his wife, Olive Snedegar Chase; three sons, Tim Chase and wife, Young, of Lutherville, Md., Dan Chase and wife, Lisa, of Kingsport, Tenn., and Joe Chase and wife, Melissa, of Blacksburg, Va.; grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah and Hannah of Lutherville, and Miles and Adam of Kingsport; a sister, Mari Rippey and husband, Robert, of Strasburg, Va.; and a brother, Bruce Chase and wife, Anne, of Morgantown.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Paul Suttle and the Rev. Billy Reed Wickline officiating. Burial will follow in End of the Trail cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be members of the Lewisburg Lions Club.

Lena P. Daniels
On early Monday morning, April 17, 2006, Lena Prunest Daniels of Sandlick passed away at Hilltop Nursing Home after a long illness. She was in her 84th year.
Born May 23, 1921 at Pemberton, Lena was the daughter of the late Mike and Molly Prunest.
Lena will be remembered as a kind woman, she was a dear Mother, mother-in-law and a sweet grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Red” Daniels; two sons, Freddie Gale and Richard Ray Daniels; a daughter, Virginia Louise Dunbar; a grandson; a sister; a brother; and two stepbrothers.
Survivors include a son. Clayton Paul Daniels and his wife, Connie; three sisters, Mary Daniel and Rosie Baldwin, all of Upper Sandlick, and Katherine Black of Grandview; a brother, Jessie Prunest of Maple Fork; three stepbrothers and a stepsister; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mattsville Community Church with the Rev. Ronald Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Turner cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 10 p.m. today at the church and one hour before service Friday.
Pallbearers will be Donald Burgess, Spencer Settle, Adam Dunbar, Timmy Clifton, Kenneth and Kenneth Clyburn Jr.

Brenda Lusk Lafferty
OCEANA - Brenda Lusk Lafferty, 47, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 23, 2004 at her residence following a courage battle with cancer.
Born September 4, 1956 at Mullens she was the daughter of the late Denver Lusk and Annis Lusk Cook of Oceana.
Mrs. Lafferty was a homemaker a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Matheny.
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband of 29 years, Michael Lafferty of Oceana; a son, Michael Paul Lafferty and his wife, Margetta Oceana; a daughter, Tara Cook and her husband, John of Oceana; her mother, Annis Lusk Cook and step father, Glen Cook of Matheny; one brother, "Little" Michael Lusk of Matheny; a sister, Debbie Cook and her husband, Bill of Matheny, mother-in-law, Shirley Day of Glen Fork; two brothers-in-laws, Ricky Lafferty of Crab Orchard and Randy Lafferty and his wife, Linda of Oceana; three grandchildren, Marisa Lafferty, John Michael Cook and Madison Lafferty; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 26, 2004 at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Pastor John Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Casketbearers will be Ricky Lafferty, Randy Lafferty, John Cook, Timothy Lambert, Matthew Shook and Stanley Lafferty.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Alleen M. Furrow
WAITEVILLE — Alleen M. Furrow, 103, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Greenbrier Manor in Fairlea following a long illness.
She was born at High Point, N.C., on Dec. 6, 1902, a daughter of the late Charles Patrick and Annie Pink Crosier Mulder.
Mrs. Furrow was a member of New Zion Union Church at Waiteville where she served as a Sunday school teacher and pianist for 50 years.
She was a homemaker and former school teacher in Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia, a 1923 graduate of the University of North Carolina and a lifetime member of Monroe County Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Furrow was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Furrow Sr.; two daughters-in-law, Mary Anne Furrow and Barbara L. Furrow; and two brothers, Charles P. and Ralph Mulder.
Survivors are three sons, the Rev. F. DeWitt Furrow Jr. and his wife, Ana, of Union, John Furrow and his wife, Betty, of Union and Charles W. Furrow and his wife, Pat, of Gordonsville, Va.; five grandchildren, David Furrow, Pam Dransfield, Ana Church, Mariley Spitzer and Sandra O’Conner; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at New Zion Union Church, Waiteville, with the Rev. Tim Dillon and the Rev. DeWitt Furrow officiating. Burial will follow in New Zion Union Church cemetery.

Charles Edward Gore Sr.
Charles Edward Gore Sr., 75, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Gladstone, Va., to the late Lewis Penn and Rosie Penn Gore. Following his father’s death, he was adopted by James C. Gore and raised in Layland and Lanark.
In January 1981, he was united in marriage to Barbara Talley in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Gore was baptized at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Lanark. He worked as an orderly at Pinecrest Hospital. He entered the Air Force in March 1952. Following his honorable discharge, he relocated to Chicago and retired from Dresher Manufacturing in 1990, where he was a supervisor. He and his wife moved to Fayetteville in 1993.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Barbara; his son, the Rev. Charles Edward Gore Jr. and Lee Ann Gore of Fayetteville; his daughter, Dr. Lori Gore-Green and the Rev. Michael Green of Denton, Texas; and son, David Gore and Sheila Ashley Gore of Chicago; four grandchildren, Chevelle Gore, Charles Gore III and twin grandsons Brian and Jonathan Gore; three brothers, James Gore, Howard Gore and Larry Gore; 10 sisters, Nannie Fruit, Martha Brown, Rosetta White, Mary Lee Bradley, Ruby Ann Shephard, Shirley Taliaferro, Edna Robinson, Phyllis Rinehart, Verlene Eva Pontoo and Joann Gore; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Fannie Gore.
Charles Gore Sr. will be remembered as a devoted family man, the best big brother ever, an avid fisherman, a Chicago Bulls and White Sox fan, and a man who loved to use his tools to make and/or fix anything. And he also faithfully attended Fayetteville Little League games to cheer for his grandsons and buy banana splits for their home runs.
He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church, Skelton, with the Rev. Charles E. Gore Jr. and the Rev. Michael Green officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before service Saturday at the church.

Steven K. Lafon
Steven K. Lafon, 50, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Monday, April 17, 2006, at his home following a short illness.
Born Feb. 1, 1956, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Delila Waddell Lafon and the late Garland E. Lafon.
Steven was a 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was a 1978 graduate of Marshall University. He was retired as a vice president of Conoco in Houston, Texas, and was recently employed by Wells Fargo in Beckley.
Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Ann Lafon, and a son, Steven K. Lafon II, of Houston; two sisters, Linda Brian and her husband, David, of Dallas, Texas, and Phyllis Winnett and her husband, Dan, of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Larry E. Lafon of Knoxville; nephews, Bryan Hopkins and his wife, Sherry, Joel Lafon, Andrew Brian, and his great-nephew, Holden Hopkins; and his nieces, Paige and Hallie Lafon and Kristin Brian.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Craig Stevens and the Rev. Mark Schrade officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Bonnie Jean Meador, 61, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.
Born Nov. 27, 1944, at Rock Lick, she was the daughter of the late William E. Asbury and Donna Marie Holstein Asbury.
Mrs. Meador was a retired nurse aide with more than 20 years of service, and attended Glen View Baptist Church at Glen View.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Charles Asbury and William Lee Asbury.
Survivors include her loving husband, Lamer Meador; a daughter, Teresa Darnell of Crab Orchard; three sisters, Carol Asbury of Slab Fork, Lawanda Cooper and husband, Ralph, of Sophia and Phyllis Gross of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Rodger Asbury and wife, Stella, of Beckley, Jackie Asbury and wife, Debra, of Slab Fork and Gary Asbury and wife, Donna, of Coal City; two grandchildren, Kimberly Acord and Michael Acord; and a great-grandchild, Bre’chelle Richardson.
