Suzie Mae Justice
Suzie Mae Justice, 54, of Brumwell, KY, formally of Braxton County, WV died October 11, 2006 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
She was born September 25, 1952 in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Cleotia Young and Ernie Westfall.
She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she was a Protestant.
She is survived by husband, Johnny L. Justice, who was more than a stepfather to her children, Mark Rexroad of Hazard, KY and Duane Rexroad of Sutton, WV and Amy Knight of Sutton, WV. Stepchildren Christopher B. Justice, Shawna Leigh Justice and Jonathan B. Justice; sisters, Sue Westfall of New Philadelphia, OH, Glenda Shaver of Exchange, WV, and Linda Harrison of Cicero, IL; brothers, John Young of Newville, WV, Brad Young of Weston, WV, Roy Westfall of Flatwoods, WV and Jimmy Westfall of Ohio; grandchildren, Logan Rexroad and Zach Knight; her beloved dog, Paul Newman Justice.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister, Burma Hamner.
Service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2006 at the Richard Roach Funeral Home, in Gassaway with Pastor William “Bebe” Marshall and Pastor Rodney England officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Gassaway.
Friends may call from 6 to 9pm /Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Patsy Jean Davis
Patsy Jean Davis, 59, of Birch River, WV died January 23, 2007 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV. She was born September 16, 1947 in Birch River, WV the daughter of Royal and Sarah Virginia King. Also preceding her in death were one precious daughter Angel Davis, and two sisters Audrey King and Sharon Rogers.
She was a Baptist by faith, a homemaker and formerly employed by Drug Fair Pharmacy, Fairfax Co. School System and American Medical Lab.
She is survived by one son, Denny Davis and wife Mindy of Birch River; one daughter April Davis of Manassas, VA; one brother Delmas King of Birch River, one sister Dottie Kidwell of Manassas, VA and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, WV with Rev. Bobbie Harper officiating. Burial was in the King-Smallwood Cemetery, Birch River, WV.
Donations may be made to the Rosenbaum Family House, WV University Hospitals, PO Box 8228, Morgantown, WV 26506.
Greene-Robertson Funeral Home is serving the Davis Family.

Arthur "Jerry" Townsend
On January 22, 2007, Arthur “Jerry” Townsend of Jane Lew, WV, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Jerry was born on August 15, 1935 in Gilmer County, WV, to the late Lena Gay Parsons and Arthur Townsend. He was one of seven children.
Jerry is survived by his wife Glenna Lavon Vankirk Townsend whom he married on August 17, 1957; one son, Jerry L. Townsend of Graham, Texas ; two daughters, Betty L.Townsend of Weston, and Barbara L. Smarr and husband Rocky of Weston; one niece who he thought of as a daughter, Debbie Gregg and husband Troy of Bridgeport, Texas ; five grandchildren, Jerry Townsend of Erie, PA, David Townsend of Lionsville, PA, Tyler Peters, Cory Smarr and Madison Townsend all of Weston; one sister, Peggy Bragg and husband Bob of Copen; three brothers, Paul Townsend and wife Linda of Summersville, Mike Townsend and wife Delores of Weston, and Bruce Townsend who resided with Jerry in Jane Lew; several nieces and nephews; and his very special dog “Bo”.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by to sisters, Maxine James and Jackie Love.
Jerry was a member and a Deacon of the New Life Southern Baptist Church, in Weston. Jerry had a passion for the youth of the church and always had his home open to his children’s friends and the kids of the church.
Early in his career, Jerry owned and operated Townsend Coal Company and Townsend Bro.’s Mining Company. In the early 1970’s Jerry and his wife Glenna owned and operated Associated Furniture and Associated Diner in Weston. Later, he operated heavy equipment for Driggs Corporation and Metrex Corporation out of Washington , DC, where he retired.
Jerry was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend; all that knew him loved him. He will be greatly missed.
Friends called at the New Life Southern Baptist Church, Glady Fork Road, Weston, WV. Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 2 –7 pm.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the New Life Southern Baptist Church with Reverend David Riffle officiating.
Interment with military honors conducted by West Virginia Honor Guard, Camp Dawson followed in the Little Kanawha Gardens, Gem, WV. Boyle Funeral Home of Weston.

Randell R. Short
Randell R. Short, age 50, of Frametown died January 25, 2007 at home after a long illness. Randell was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member and superintendent of Frametown Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Karen, daughter Heather Griffin and husband Tim of Flatwoods, sons, Nathan Short and wife April of Gassaway and Samuel R. Short and Michelle Simons of Frametown. Randell has two grandsons, Dylan Ratliff and Jaxson Short and three step-grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob and Andrew griffin. Also surviving is Randell’s mother, Babe Short of Frametown, one brother Ronnie Short of Elkview and sister Diane Mussano of Florida. His father Ralph Short and one sister Sharron Hoover preceded him in death. He leaves behind longtime friends and in-laws, Mike Baker and Pam Mace and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held 2 pm Sunday, January 28 at the Frametown United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Conrad officiating. Burial was in the Short Family Cemetery, Frametown.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice Care, P O Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335 or Braxton County Senior Citizens, P O Box 306, Gassaway 26624 or Central WV Aging, P O Box 455, Sutton, WV 26601.

Lawrence L. "Larry" Riffle
Mr. Lawrence L. “Larry” Riffle, 82, of Winchester, VA, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Riffle was born on May 18, 1924, the son of the late Guy Loren and Sylvia Louise Ocheltree Riffle. He retired at the age of 65 having been a salesman and a real estate broker for several top local builders in the Northern Virginia area for thirty years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Alexandria, VA and the Northern Virginia Board of Realtors Million Dollar Club. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy as an Electricians Mate 2nd Class T.
Mr. Riffle married Norene Cochran on October 26, 1944, in Burnsville, WV.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Karen Riffle Jackson, Shelia Riffle Shields, and Terri Riffle Freeborn; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services were held on January 23, 2007, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with David Owings officiating. Interment followed in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Nick Shields, Chris Jackson, Kevin Jackson, and Keith Jackson.

Noralee Y. McMillion
Noralee Y. McMillion, 84, of Warren, Ohio, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was born May 30, 1923, in Bower, WV, the daughter of Samuel F. and Arminta (Davis) Young, and had lived in Warren since 1964, moving from Dille and Shinnston, WV Mrs. McMillion was an active member of First Baptist Church, having served both as a deaconess and a trustee, and a former member of the Federation of Women’s Club in Widen, WV.
She worked for Atty. Bruce Birrell for many years and was well known for her appraisals of home furnishings, especially of antiques. She spent years taking care of many who were ill and couldn’t care for themselves. She was a sweet soul and a trusted friend.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy L. McMillion of Warren, Ohio; a son, Charles R. McMillion; three grandchildren, Capt. A.C. (Beth) McMillion of the Cortland Fire Department, Sean M. McMillion of Cleveland, Ohio, and Sara McMillion of Vienna, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Nedra Given of Warren, Ohio; and a brother, Carlos G. Young of Alaska.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, DeForrest McMillion, whom she married July 25, 1942, and who died April 5, 1999; a son, Joe F. McMillion, who died Oct. 28, 1998; a sister, Glenna Shank; and a brother, Capt. George A. Young, USMC.
Services were held on Wednesday, July 25, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew M. Thomas officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Material contributions may be made either to First Baptist Church, 3217 Surrey Road S.E., Warren, Ohio 44484, or to the American Lung Association, 25 N. Canfield-Niles, Road, Austintown, Ohio 44515.
Arrangements are entrusted to McFarland & Son Funeral Services Co., 271 N. Park Ave., Warren, Ohio 44481.

Marie Jean "Aunt Jean" Berry
Marie Jean “Aunt Jean” Berry, 85, of Heaters passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on January 31, 1922 in Heaters, the daughter of the late Charles and Ida Mae Berry. Aunty Jean was a homemaker and member of the Heaters United Methodist Church.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, July 26, 2007 in Heaters Cemetery with the Rev. James Burroughs officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest memorials to the American Cancer Society, 301 RHL Blvd., Charleston, WV. Condolences may be sent on-line to www.stockert-gibson.com.

Charles Loy Neal
Charles Loy Neal, 66, of Leesville, LA, passed away Monday July 23, 2007 in Rapides Regional Center in Alexandria, LA after a long illness. He was born on May 24, 1941 in Glenville, WV the son of the late Charles Stewart Neal of Sebring, FL and Virginia Hite Neal Groah of Camden, WV.
Charles was a retired E-8 Master Sergeant from the US Army. He was the Riffle Team Coach for West Virginia University from 1972 to 1976. He loved hunting and fishing, held a general class Ham/Amateur operators license. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Glenville, WV as a child and was presently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leesville, LA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Michael Solomon Neal, one sister, Kenna Jean Lorentz, Step father Kenneth Groah and step mother Agnes Neal.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie Brown Neal of Leesville, LA. One son Norman Eric and wife Melissa Neal, Granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Neal and Grandson Ryan Eric Neal all of Anacoco, LA. Sister, Edna Neal Simmons and husband George of Ohio. Brother, John Neal of Sebring, FL. Father and Mother in-law, Solomon and Betty Brown of Heaters, WV. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Friday July 27, at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV with the Rev. Lonnie Ramsey officiating. Burial followed in Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters, WV. with military Graveside rites provided by American Legion Post #33, Gassaway, WV.

Elbert L. Melvin Sr.
Elbert L. Melvin Sr. of Frederica, DE, formerly of Braxton County died Saturday, July 21, 2007, in Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington, DE. He was 67.
Mr. Melvin was born in Felton, DE son of the late Oliver H. Melvin and Laura A. Melvin-Harvey.He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. He rose to the rank of lance corporal and was very devoted to the corps. Mr. Melvin was an auto mechanic and worked for Melvin Sunoco and Shirey’s Auto Sales. He was also employed by Michael Motors, Gassaway, WV. He was a workaholic, and when it came to cars he could fix almost anything.He was an avid NASCAR and football fan.
Mr. Melvin was very family oriented and loved to go camping with his family, and he also loved to spoil his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles R. Melvin, Dwayne C. Hosey and Clarence C. Melvin; and a sister, Clara Marie Melvin.
Mr. Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Georgia Melvin of Frederica, DE; a son, Elbert L. Melvin Jr. of Elkton, MD; a daughter, Sherry M. Virgilio of Newark, DE; his brothers, William J. Melvin of Deming, N.M., Bazil Melvin of Exchange, W.Va., Raymond Clutter of Sutton, Henry J. Harvey of Hartly, DE and Carl B. Harvey of Anchorage, Alaska; his sisters, Mary E. Dillon of Oberlin, Ohio, Helen J. Gray of Centerville, PA, Deloris E. Ware of Centralia, Kay Y. Hosey of Morgantown, WV, Maryland S. Hinkle of Elkins, WV, and Brenda C. Barker of Martinsburg, WV, seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Elbert III, Brian, Meghan, Mallorie, Kayla and Kyle; and a great-grandchild, Nicolas.
Funeral services were held July 30, 2007 in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington. Burial followed in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
