Gladys Marie Cook Little Ford, 89, of Stanaford, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.
Born Sept. 13, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Elmore H. and Minnie Taylor Cook of Wyoming County. She was a retired waitress having worked at several restaurants in the Beckley area. She retired in September 1975.
Gladys was a resident of Stanaford (Hoist Road) for the past 25 years, having lived the last nine months at SunBridge Pine Lodge. She was a former resident of Sophia, leaving that area in 1981.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, James Raymond Little, an infant son, Robert Lee Little; six brothers, Johnny, Woodrow, Ellis, Jesse, Clarence and Kenneth Cook; two sisters, Glenna Peppers and Billie Kaemmerer; and two infant sisters, Barbara and Lucille.
Surviving are a son, James D. “Jim” Little and wife, Jill, of Elkview; daughter, Patricia A. “Patty” Little Meadows and husband, Eddy, of Pluto Road, Shady Spring; companion of 25 1/2 years, Ernest Clay of Stanaford; grandchildren, Jason D. Little Sr. and companion, Kemm Pinkerton, of Huntington, Brian Raymond Meadows and wife, Cindy, and Melissa Ann Meadows, all of Pluto Road, Shady Spring; three great-grandchildren, Kaysee Lea Cheselka and Brian Austin Meadows of Pluto Road, Shady Spring, and Jason Daniel Little Jr. of Huntington; a brother, David Cook and wife, Helen, of Oceana; sisters, Frances “Pat” Cornett of Georgia, Betty Toungett and husband, Johnny, of Bloomington, Ill., Shirley Scheurer and husband, Frank, of Dayton, Ohio, Jackie Mote and husband, Mel, of Troy, Ohio; brother-in-law, Cletus Kaemmerer Sr. of Belleville, Ill., and her beloved dog, Ginger. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Gladys was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff of SunBridge Pinelodge, to Dr. Romero and Dr. I.F. Salon and also to the staff at Raleigh General Hospital Emergency Room and 2 South for their kindness and support during our tremendous loss.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Randy Smithson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Dorothy Dean Gobble Gunnoe
Dorothy Dean Gobble Gunnoe of Stickney, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston, after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 2, 1928, at Holston, Va., a daughter of the late Calvin and Willie Ellen Dye Gobble.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gene “Friday” and wife, Beulah Gobble.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Denver Dewey “Red” Gunnoe; a daughter, Martha Ellen Carper of Beckley; grandsons, Robert L. “Bob” Baxter of Stickney, W.Va., Timothy E. Baxter and wife, Laura, of Stafford, Va.; granddaughter, Joni L. Carper Weaver and husband, Bill, of Clearwater, Fla., Dorothy’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the very light of her heart including, Nicholas D. Carper of Florida, Eric, Shannon, Zachary, Madison, Jillian, Cade Baxter, al of Stafford; a brother, Bill Gobble of Atlanta, Ga.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville, with the Rev. Jim Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview cemetery, Orgas.
Friends may call two hours before the service at the funeral home.

Nellie Virginia Maxey Harvey
HINTON — Nellie Virginia Maxey Harvey, 92, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hinton, following a short illness.
Mrs. Harvey was born at Camp Creek in Mercer County, W.Va., on March 21, 1914. She was the eldest daughter of the late Henry Lawrence and Daisy Hattie Rose Maxey. She graduated from Spanishburg High School on May 25, 1933. She was married to the late Elder Owen D. Harvey at Pearisburg, Giles Co. VA on July 26, 1940.
She had resided at her current residence on the Raleigh County side of the New River across from Hinton since early 1946.
She was a faithful member of the Little Bluestone Primitive Baptist Church at Jumping Branch of which her husband was pastor for many years. She was a faithful wife, mother and pastor’s wife. She was an excellent quilter and crocheter.
She was a member of the Matthew French Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Summers County and Raleigh County Historical Societies, West Virginians for Life and the Concord University Alumni Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Owen Darah Harvey, on Aug. 1, 1989; and two infant sons, Owen Jr. on May 16, 1943, and Matthew on Aug. 17, 1953; seven brothers, Stacey, Ray, Dale, Carl “Bus”, Fred, Calvin and Bill Maxey; and two sisters, Ivory Sitosky and Norma Maxey.
She is survived by one son, Douglas Wayne Harvey, with whom she resided; one sister, Mary Grace Blankenship of Princeton, four sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Little Bluestone Primitive Baptist Church at Jumping Branch with Elder Richard Hurst officiating assisted by Deacon Barrie Pack. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton 6 to 9 p.m. today and at the church one hour prior to the service. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Theodore H. ‘Ted’ Keffer Sr.
HINTON — Theodore H. “Ted” Keffer Sr., 91, died at 3:07 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at the home of his daughter, Donna Hedrick at Jumping Branch following a short illness.
Born Feb. 27, 1915, at Buck, W.Va., he was the son of the late Samuel A. and Virginia Carson Keffer.
Ted was retired from C&O Railway Company as a Stationary Boiler Operator. He was also a former employee of Hinton Builders Supply Company in Hinton and was a self-employed carpenter. Ted & his late wife owned and operated the former Southside Grocery in Hinton for 17 years. He was the second oldest member and deacon at Elk Knob Baptist Church at Elk Knob and was a past member of the Summers County A.R.H. Auxiliary. He was a member of the N.A.R.V.E. and had lived most of his life in Summers County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Davis Keffer; a son, James Edward Keffer; a granddaughter, Nancy Hatcher; a son-in-law, Gary Hatcher; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, Ted Keffer Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Nimitz; two daughters, Barbara Jenkins and husband, Richard, of Creamery, Pa., and Donna Hatcher Hedrick and husband, Robert, of Jumping Branch; two brothers, Eugene Keffer and wife, Nancy, of Elkins, and Homer Keffer of Hinton; two sisters, Ruby and Shirley Wheeler, both of Hinton; six grandchildren, Cindy Alderfer and husband, Joel, Richard K. Jenkins and wife, Therese, Jennifer Jenkins, Adina Hardy and husband, Gordie, Aaron Keffer and wife, Elizabeth, and Autumn Keffer; nine great-grandchildren, Jackie Jenkins, Garret, Peter and Daniel Alderfer, Logan and Dylan Hardy, Cierra, Bryton and Dalton Keffer, and a great-granddaughter to be born, Keira Hardy.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Don Hannah and Andy Howdock officiating. Burial will follow in the Huffman cemetery at Buck.
Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Holland, Sidney Sweeney, Joseph Ray Williams Jr., Eric Cales and Robert and Greg Angell.

Carolyn Jean Ash Williams, 65, of Rt. 1, Scarbro, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at her home.
Born Dec. 17, 1941, in Cokeburg, Pa., the daughter of the late Ralph and Pearl White Ash.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She was a member of Red Star Baptist Church at Red Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph Mark Williams; a grandson, Jacob Matthew Williams; a brother, Ernest Ash; and a sister, Shirley Rucker.
Survivors include her husband, Ted Williams of Scarbro, Route 1; daughter, Carol Williams Ashmore of Route 1, Scarbro; two sons, Daniel Wayne Williams and wife, Ruth, of Diamond, and Matthew Scott Williams and wife, Lori, of Hernshaw; grandchildren, Ronnie Ashmore and fiancé, Jennifer Wriston, Amanda Donnally and husband, Danny, Cara Ashmore and fiancé, Reese Johnson, Ashley Williams, Joe Williams II and Kaylie Williams; two sisters, Linda Burns of Brook Park, Ohio, and Sandra Cay Westfall of Exchange; 18 nieces and 15 nephews.

OAK HILL — James Z. Smith, 80, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.
Born Jan. 20, 1926, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Marvel Smith and Minnie Ame Snow Smith.
James was retired from C&O Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virgie Kelley Smith; his second wife, Mary Cox Smith; three sisters and a brother.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Bubbie L. Smith and wife, Deloris, of Oak Hill; a sister, Ada Bell Smith of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Tammy Moore and husband, Ray, of Oak Hill, Sandra K. Smith of Oak Hill, Johnathan Smith and wife, Crystal, of Oak Hill and Joseph James Smith and wife, Sarah, of Oak Hill; and 11 great-grandchildren.
His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, where service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Carlos Lewis and the Rev. Lewis Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
The family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral chapel.

Maxine M. Browning, 89, of Shady Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, in a local care facility after a long illness.
Born July 22, 1917, at Rockview, she was the daughter of the late Okey and Alice Cook Walker.
Mrs. Browning was a homemaker and attended Crab Orchard Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Browning, in 1981, and a son-in-law, Ronnie Thompson.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Thompson of Portsmouth, Va., and JoAnn Adams and her husband, Bob, of Shady Spring; four grandchildren, Terry Adams and his wife, Jill, of Shady Spring, Judy Lilly and her fiance, Randy Long, of Daniels, Gary Thompson of Portsmouth and Steven Thompson of North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Tami Beckelheimer, Bobby Adams, Samatha Adams and Jeffrey Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
