Alice Sarah Rutland, 79, of 243 Smoot Ave., Beckley, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born Jan. 31, 1927, in Leckrone, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Cherry and Cordelia Cherry.
Mrs. Rutland was a retired banking supervisor for Hartford National Bank. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Beckley, member of the choir and treasurer and also was a missionary of the church.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Lavora “Babe,” Mary, Magdalene, Lillian and Rose; and two children, Stephen D. and Sandra E.
Survivors include her husband, Elbie Rutland Sr.; two sons, Elbie Rutland Jr. and wife, Vivian Jean, of Fort Washington, Md., and Michael David Rutland and wife, Rose Maria, of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Donna Jean Everett and husband, Gregory L., of Windsor, Conn.; two brothers, the Rev. James Cherry Sr. of Henrietta, N.Y., and Wesley Cherry of Uniontown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Stephen Rutland of Durham, N.C., Britt Rutland and Tamara of Fort Washington, John Everett of Windsor, Wynter Hawkins-Dale of Hartford, Conn., Bethany Everett of Windsor, Tiffany Everett of Windsor, Jordan Rutland of Manassas, Va., and Noami Rutland of Charlotte; brothers-in-law, William Clark Jr. of Hartford and the Rev. Robert Ackles of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Virginia Cherry of Uniontown and Eunice Cherry of Henrietta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of North Beckley, 110 Ellis St., Beckley, with the Revs. James Cox, Abner Wright and James Cherry officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the church.

Betty Ann (Fox) Lilly, (nee Kincaid), 77, of Elyria, Ohio, entered into eternal rest Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at her home following a brief illness.
Born in Crickmer in 1928, she moved to North Ridgeville, Ohio, in 1948 where she lived until moving to Meadow Bridge in 1971. She moved to Elyria in 1997, where she lived until her passing.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, crafting, gardening and travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Lilly, her parents, Clarence and Myrtle Kincaid, a sister, Margaret Fox, brother, Billy Kincaid, daughter, Linda (Fox) Laffew and grandson, Jeremy (Lakoey) Fox.
Survivors include a sister, Jolene McGuire of Crickmer, sons, Jerry Fox of Aiken, S.C., and Dale Fox of Mt. Airy, N.C.; two daughters, Beverly Russell and Bonnie (Fox) Kelly both of Elyria; three grandsons, Aaron Russell and Christopher Russell, both of Elyria, and Zachary Fox of Aiken; two granddaughters, Jenny (Leffew) Owens and Bobbie Kelly, both of Elyria; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel at Wallace Memorial cemetery in Clintonville with the Rev. Allan Whitt officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum in Clintonville.
Friends may call from noon at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Mrs. Lilly’s home at 453 Cambridge Ave., Elyria.

Goldie Mannie Lyons, 82, of Cranberry, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005.
She was born in Kentucky on June 29, 1923, the daughter of the late Eliza Lyons and Mary Liz Fultz Lyons.
She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Cranberry Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gruder Lyons, sons Jerry Wayne Lyons, Charles Lyons Sr., and Carl Lyons, and daughters Mary Belle Kennedy and Anna Mae Arthur, one granddaughter, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandson.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Lynn Bailey of Beckley; three sons, Edward Monroe Lyons and wife Inis of Cranberry, William Glen Lyons of Midway, the Rev. William D. ‘Bill’ Shuff
William D. “Bill” Shuff of Ansted passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 at Raleigh General Hospital following a short illness.
Bill was born July 1, 1936 at Lansing, Mich. He was the son of the late Clyde and Russie Pike Shuff.
Bill was a coal miner, a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was very much involved with the Little League baseball team and the Boy Scouts, and he helped organize the Midland Trail baseball team.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma Lusher.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Shuff; two sons, William “Chuck” Shuff and April of Hico, and Steve Shuff and Jessica of Glenville; two brothers, Robert Shuff and Norma, and John Shuff and Mona, all of Lansing and four grandchildren, Trey and Kylie of Glenville, Megan and Mackenzie of Hico.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ansted Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens at Victor.

Sylvin Lee Todd
Sylvin Lee Todd, 74, of Mabscott, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Sunbridge Pine Lodge Extended Care Center after a long illness.
Mr. Todd was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Pear, the son of the late Tolley Todd and Elsie Stover Todd.
He was a graduate of Richmond High School and received an associate degree from Beckley College. He was a retired employee of National Mine Service as a shipping and receiving clerk.
He lived in Mabscott for 51 years and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham.
Mr. Todd was preceded in death by sisters Lottie Bragg, Marie Bennett, Lula Smith, Melcina Whitaker, and an infant brother and sister.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Thelma Richmond Todd; a daughter, Beverly Snuffer Gray and husband John of Lester; a sister, Evelyn Mitchell of Parkersburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Blankenship and husband Jerry of Lester; a grandson, Shane Snuffer and wife Kimberly of Lanark; grandchildren Andrew and Holly Blankenship, Jordan, Michael, Kendra and Kylie Snuffer; former son-in-law Connie Snuffer of Abraham; sister-in-law Shirley Stephens and husband Galen of Beckley.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at New Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. John Wesley Richmond officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Baptist Church cemetery.

William Smith Banks
RICHMOND, Va. — Will-iam Smith Banks, 93, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond.
He attended St. Christopher’s School, graduating in 1391. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia in 1936, and in 1943, he received the Doctor of Jurisprudence from the College of Law at West Virginia University. He was president of Phi Kappa Sigma and also a member of the international legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi.
Mr. Banks married Mary Frances File in 1937 in Beckley.
During World War II, he served as a medical and administrative corps personal affairs officer.
In 1948, he moved to Alex-andria, Va., and joined the firm of Davis and Ruffner where he practiced title law for many years. In 1973, he became president of Land Title Corp. He also served as president of the Alexandria Bar Association, president of Belle Haven Country Club, director of the Alexandria Rotary Club and actively served the Alexandria chapter of the American Red Cross.
He loved reading, tai chi and golf.
He is survived by his son, William Ashton Banks; his nephews, Dwight File and William P. Banks; his nieces, Shirley Robbins, Mary Clem and Betsy Cox; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Hawk-ins, Nancy Eades and Kathryn Puckett; his six great-grandsons, James, Jonathan, Mason, Kobe, Klyer and Christopher; and his great-granddaughter, Victoria.
Billy was deeply loved by all his family.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. at Westminster Canterbury Chapel, Richmond.
