CHARMCO — Dorothy J. Viers, 80, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 9, 2006, at her home following a long illness.
Born Oct. 10, 1925, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley E. and Lillie Mae O’Bryan Jones.
Mrs. Viers was a member of Big Clear Creek Baptist Church of Rupert and of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, where she served as past president and Silver Sister of the International Honorary Sorority of Women Educators of Alpha Zeta Chapter since 1972. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught at East Rainelle Elementary and Smoot Elementary Schools.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Viers, in 1991; a brother, Earl S. Jones; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Tincher.
Those left to mourn are two daughters, Velma Viers of Rupert and Sandra Tincher of Rupert; two sons, Tommy D. Viers and wife, Connie, of Rupert and Rick Viers and wife, Debbie, of Lewisburg; seven grandchildren, Emily Viers, Tarra Holliday and husband, Heath, Christy Rooker and husband, Timothy, Mandy Tincher, Justin Tincher, Jacob Nutter and Shaun Viers and wife, Vanessa; and five great-grandchildren, Haley Grace Holliday, Karli Ann Holliday, Madison Paige Rooker, Justin Michael Viers and Jeremy Andrew Viers.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Lee Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville, with White Flights.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to give “special thanks” to her caregivers, Connie Reel and Sharon Sparks. The family would also like to thank the members of Orient Hill Baptist Church and McRoss Baptist Church for their continuous prayers, flowers, cards, food, fruit baskets and visits during her long illness.

Tommy Allen Davis III
DALTON, Ga. — Tommy Allen Davis III, age 18, passed away Thursday evening, April 6, 2006, in Dalton, Ga.
He was born Jan. 7, 1988, in Whitfield County, Ga., son of Tommy Allen Davis Jr. of Chatsworth and Sherree Ann (Chapman) Davis of Dalton.
Tommy was a senior at Northwest Whitfield High School, competed for many years in wrestling, and attended Dalton Christian Fellowship (Relationship Church). He also was employed as a server at The Dalton Depot. He was loved by everyone who met him and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his grandparents, Tommy and Joan Davis of Mount Hope, Troxel and Betty Chapman of Oak Hill; sisters, Daisy Joan Davis of Chatsworth, Ga., Jessica Anne Fowler of Dalton, Ga.; uncles, John Davis of Shippensburg, Pa., Mark Davis, Robert Davis, both of Nicho-lasville, Ky., and James Davis of Mount Hope; aunts, Sharon Beasley of Hattiesburg, Miss., Sue Bowman of Lancing, Tenn., Karen Nimmo of Beckley, Kimberly Kelly of Chattanooga, Tenn.; cousins, Betsy Chapman, Patricia Cunningham, Karen Hutchens, all of Ivydale, Judy DeBoard of Madison; niece, Jenna Fowler; nephew, Nicholas Folwer, both of Dalton, Ga.
Service was held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Wilson officiating. Interment followed in United Memorial Gardens.

Thearon Roosevelt Jarrett Jr.
Thearon Roosevelt Jarrett, Jr. went home to be with the our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the age of 82, following a long illness.
He was born June 8, 1923, at Coalfield, W.Va., to the late Thearon R. Jarrett, Sr. and Mary Rose Drain Jarrett.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired coal miner from the Milburn Collery Co. and a faithful member for 46 years of the Oak Hill Apostolic Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John T. (Jack) Jarrett; and a sister, Lenora Treadway.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Caroll M. Parrish Jarrett; one son, John T. Jarrett; two daughters, Brenda Casto and husband, Mark, and Cheila Bryant and husband, Sam, all of Rt. 1 Scarbro; four brothers, Cecil, Don and wife, Edith, Jim and wife, Evelyn, Ben and wife, Cathy; two sisters, Caroline Smathers and Shirley Blethen; two grandsons, Danny Wayne McClary and Rob McClary and wife, Christy; one granddaughter, Ashley Dawn Bryant; four great-grandchildren, Auston, Amber, John Mark and Amanda; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Oak Hill Apostolic Holiness Church, Oak Hill with the Rev. Carlos Lews officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

George Thomas Jones
OAK HILL — George Thomas Jones, 73, died on Thursday, April 13, 2006, at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL, from complications resulting from a fall.
Born May 22, 1932, at Summerlee, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas George and Inez Blanche Duncan Jones.
He retired as manager of AT&T Phone Center Stores, having 29 years service with the company.
Mr. Jones was a member and deacon of the Oak Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. & A.M. and Oak Hill Chapter No. 107 O.E.S. He was a former member of the Rotary and the Jaycees, who in 1965 voted him Outstanding Young Man of the Year.
As an active local businessman, George was the founder of Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. He was an organizer and first president of the Fayette Plateau Chamber of Commerce as well as an organizer and first parade grand marshall of the WV Sports Festival.
He was a graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill.
George was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Two sisters, Natella Jean Blackwell and Beulah Louise Pemberton, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Webb Jones; two brothers, Kenith Smyth Jones and wife, Peggy, of Taylorsville, NC, and William Edward Jones and wife, Carol, of Oak Hill; three sisters, Janet Gay Payne and husband, Charles W., of Oak Hill, Doris Ann Criss and husband, Jack, of Cleveland, OH, and Drema Gail Cales and husband, Michael of Leesburg, VA.
Thirty nieces and nephews and two very special grandchildren, Ty and Ali Braenovich, also survive him.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Oak Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. David White officiating. Burial will be private.
Pallbearers will be Ken Jones, Jr., Tim Jones, Micheal Cales, Barry Jones, Mark Aurelio, Andy Aurelio, Barry Webb and Ty Braenovich.

Paul Allen Jones
ALDERSON — Paul Allen Jones, age 87, formerly a 45-year resident of the Charleston area, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at White Sulphur Springs Genesis Center, White Sulphur Springs, following a long illness.
Born Nov. 8, 1918, at Wolf Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Lacy and Cora Burdette Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Ralph Jones.
Mr. Jones was a retired metal smith, having retired after 35 years of service from Union Carbide, Charleston. He worked for the E.I. Dupont Corporation in Belle, for five years as a metal smith and tested ammunition for the United States Government at the California Institute of Technology, Pasedena, Calif., for three years. Mr. Jones attended Alderson Schools and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, James C. Jones and his wife, Bobbie F., of Annandale, Va.; four grandchildren, James C. Jones II and his wife, Lynne, of Bowling Green, Ky., Kristina Jones Goode and her husband, Chris, of Oviedo, Fla., Samuel Allen Jones and his wife, Mary, of Mechanicsville, Va., and Michael Shane Jones and his wife, Dawn, of Annandale, Va.; 10 great-grandchildren, and a cousin, John Hedrick and his wife, Madge, of Alderson.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alderson cemetery, Alderson, with Dr. James B. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Alderson cemetery, Alderson.

Doris Crockett Mills
Doris Crockett Mills of Millstone Drive, Beckley died Saturday, April 15, 2006, in a Beckley care center following a short illness. She was 78 years of age.
Born on Feb. 15, 1928, at Beckley, Doris was the daughter of the late William Harry and Nannie Barberie Crockett.
A graduate of Bluefield High School, she attended McClains Business College, where she graduated with an associate degree in business.
A 15-year resident of South Charleston, she worked in the accounting department of Sears. Doris has resided in the Old Mill Village community the past 34 years. She had worked for her late husband’s business, Belt Specialty Corporation. A former resident of Mt. Hope and Oak Hill, she was a member of the Order Eastern Star, Oak Hill Chapter 107. Doris was a member and attended First United Methodist Church on South Heber St., in Beckley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul T. Mills, on Dec. 7, 1984; and a brother, James H. Crockett.
She was the beloved mother of Paul T. Mills Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline, of Memphis, TN; and Carolyn M. Hamilton and her husband, Scott, of Beckley; she was the dear grandmother of Derek R. and Jason R. Mills, both of Memphis, TN; and Rachel L. and Amanda E. Hamilton, both of Beckley; sister, Marian Crockett Cox and her husband, Bobby, and a cousin, Janet Lindsey and her husband, Richard.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Highlawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
