Elmer R. Thomas
PALATKA, Fla. — Elmer Richard Thomas, affectionately known as “Muscles,” who was born Aug. 15, 1923, departed this life Nov. 21, 2006, in Palatka. He was 83 years old.
He was born and raised in South Charleston and lived in Daniels many years. He was a construction worker who worked on various jobs in West Virginia. He lived out his later years in Palatka.
He is survived by his son, Howard Thomas; daughter, Pamela Thomas Elliott; grandsons, Howard, Adam, Joshua and Jesse Thomas; and great-grandson, Aidan Jeremy Thomas.
The family wishes to acknowledge and give immeasurable thanks to Barbara and Leo Blue and the staff at Crestwood Nursing Center in Palatka who lovingly cared for Mr. Thomas for a number of years.
Private family service will be held at a later date.

RUPERT — Carl Jackson Bottomly, 71, passed away Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in a Marietta, Ohio, care center following a long illness.
Born Jan. 31, 1934, at Rainelle, he was the son of the late Robert and Marjorie Manspile Bottomly.
“Jack” was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He worked in construction and attended Meadow Bridge Missionary Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Gillespie.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Malay Bottomly; three sons, Dennis Bunch and wife, Margaret, of Danese, Ronald Bunch and wife, Patricia, of Durham, N.C., and Shawn Ellis of Hinesville, Ga.; a daughter, Sherry King of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Robert Bottomly Jr. of Rainelle; a sister, Shirley Wickline and husband, L.C., of Covington, Va.; six grandchildren, Tracie Hypes and husband, Billy, Armic Bunch and wife, Crystal, and Jessica Blair and husband, Darrell, all of Danese, Misty Graham and husband, John, of Hinton and Wade Brown and wife, Carol, and Robbie Brown and wife, Cindy, all of Durham; six great-grandchildren, Colby Bunch of Danese, Amber Avis and Nathan Graham, both of Hinton, and Taylor, Robin and Jordyn Brown, all of Durham; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, James Carter of Rupert.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Mike Whisman officiating. Burial will follow in Layland cemetery with military rites presented by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Randall Lewis Breeden
OAK HILL — Randall Lewis Breeden, 57, of Oak Hill, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at his home following a short illness.
Born March 13, 1948, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Jesse Breeden and Polly Ashley Breeden.
Mr. Breeden was a U.S. NavyVietnam veteran. He retired from Elkem Metals at Alloy as payroll clerk and repairman. He was of the Baptist faith and lived in Oak Hill since 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ramsey Breeden; sons, Christopher Michael Breeden and wife, Sarah, of Red Star and Randall Lewis Breeden Jr. at home; daughter, Susan Michelle Adkins and husband, Gary, of Crab Orchard; brothers, Jesse Allen Breeden of Hilltop and Donald Breeden of Mabscott; sisters, Karen Stevens of Connecticut and Sherry Pishner of Ohio; and grandchildren, Anais Breeden, Gillian Breeden and Logan Adkins.
Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Brethren Church, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Bill Skeldon officiating.
There will be no visitation.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Johnny Elgie Ennis Sr., 69, a loving father, son and wonderful husband, of Meadow Bridge, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 22, 2005, at his home following a long illness.
Born Jan. 16, 1936, at Meadow Bridge, he was a son of the late Ernest Golden Parker and Effie Macel Ennis Necessary of Beckley.
Mr. Ennis was a retired coal miner and of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Jane Bragg Ennis; two daughters, Tanyetta Marie Bragg at home and Bonnie Marie Macel Bragg at home; six sons, William Charles Shrader at home, Johnny Elgie Bragg at home, Marvin Matthew Bradley Bragg at home, Noah Nathanial Bragg at home, Johnny Elgie Ennis Jr. of Meadow Bridge and Jerry Edward Ennis of Meadow Bridge; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rai-snelle, with the Rev. Robert Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at Ennis cemetery, Backus Mountain.

FLETCHER — Mildred Patterson Harrah, 82, of Wiltshire Circle, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, in a local health care facility.
A native of Layland, Mrs. Harrah was the daughter of the late Howard and Orpha White Patterson.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clarice Gonzalez and Grace Jones.
She was a member of Trinity of Fairview Church.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jessie Harrah; a daughter, Narcia Ridenour and husband, Tommy; a grandson, Michael Ridenour and wife, Michelle; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Micah Ridenour, all of Etowah, N.C.; a sister, Hilda Shawver and husband, Garland, of Beckley; a brother, Harold Patterson of Hazard, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity of Fairview Church with the Rev. Stacey Harris and the Rev. Stephen Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

William Ira Holliday Jr.
ALDERSON — William Ira Holliday Jr., 86, of Alderson, West Virginia, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at Greenbrier Manor, Fairlea, West Virginia, following a long illness.
Born May 11, 1919 at Prince, West Virginia, he was the son of the late William Ira Holliday Sr. and the late Bessie Alice Baker Holliday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Lou Elizabeth Via Holliday; his second wife of 10 years, Laura June Jones Echols Holliday; a brother, Charles Edward Holliday; and a sister: Rosalie Ruth Holliday Myles.
Mr. Holliday was a retired correctional officer, having retired in 1969 from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Alderson, after 30 years of service. Following his retirement he was the bookkeeper for Greenbrier Oil Co., Alderson, and was also a former employee of the C&O Railroad, Alderson.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Navy. Mr. Holliday was a member of Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, the Friendship Sunday School Class, and was an usher. He was a member of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Holliday enjoyed woodworking, camping and writing poetry.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Holliday Fleshman and her husband, Jim, of Alderson; two sons Charles W. “Bill” Holliday and his wife, Betty, of Alderson and John Robert “Bob” Holliday and his wife, Carolyn, of Alderson, two stepsons, Bobby Echols and his wife, Judy, of Ronceverte and Larry Echols and his wife, Pam, of Gap Mills. Also, two sisters, Eileen Holliday LaRue Ford of Clifton Forge, Va., and Betty Holliday Myles and her husband, John W., of Clifton Forge, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, three stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, with the Rev. Mark Stauffer and Pastor James L. Combs officiating. Burial will follow at The End of the Trail cemetery, Clintonville, West Virginia.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, and one hour before service Saturday at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be John W. Fleshman, James L. “Toby” Fleshman, Charles W. Holliday Jr., John Gregory Holliday, Thomas Dean Butler and Chad Alan McCallister.
Serving as honorary pallbearers and conducting military graveside rites will be the members of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson.
