LEWISBURG — Ralph DeGroff, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.

Margaret Jean England
Margaret Jean England lived a full and happy life and went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006.
Born Jan. 24, 1925, at Flat Top, she was the daughter of the late Omega Lilly Richmond and Hobert Richmond.
Mrs. England graduated from Richmond High School in 1941. She did one year of post-graduate studies at Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley College. Ms. England work-ed at Koppers Coal Co. Mine Office at Stanaford, and in her later years retired from the JC Penney Co. after 15 years of service. Mrs. England was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Ms. England was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas L. England Jr.; a sister, Betty Sayer; and four brothers, Robert “Bobby” Richmond, Howard “Scottie” Richmond, Lawrence “Doug” Richmond and Frederick “Jerry” Richmond.
Survivors include two sons, Dallas England and his wife, Barbara, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Clyde England and his wife, Teresa, of Bristol, Va.; four daughters, Jeanne Osborne and her husband, Mike, of Pleasant Valley, Patricia Shumate and her husband, George, of Lexington, Va., Frances Gilkerson and her husband, Dewaun, of Crab Orchard and Jane Ann Calvert and her husband, Joseph, of Crab Orchard; four brothers, Elmer Richmond of Pensacola, Fla., Harold Richmond, of Roswell, Ga., Joe Richmond of Crab Orchard and Edwin Richmond of Richmond, Ky.; a sister, Carol Brillon of Woonsocket, R.I.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Phil Shields and Deacon Ray Yates officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

HINTON — Mary E. Maddy, 85, of 201 Summers St., died Tuesday morning, Dec. 19, 2006, at Summers County ARH at Hinton following a long illness.
Born Dec. 10, 1921, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Belle Lilly Lilly.
She was a lifelong resident of Hinton, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Hinton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny L. Maddy, and a son, Jimmy Tucker.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Fitzwater and husband, Russell, of Hinton; a son, Bobby Tucker and wife, Mary, of Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Tucker of Columbus; two sisters, Virginia DiCiuccio of Beckley and Mildred Hamer of Greensboro, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon Thursday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Roy Lee Honaker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton.

Icie M. Martin
RAINELLE — Icie M. Martin, 71, of Rainelle, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 20, 1935, at Crichton, she was the daughter of the late Arby and Mary Phillips Smith.
Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a Christian woman of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Smith, and a sister, Melva Loudermilk.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jack Martin; two sons, Terry Martin and wife, Melissa, of Santa Ana, Calif., and John Martin and wife, Sheri, of Indio, Calif.; two daughters, Twinkle Martin and her fiance’, David McCoy, and Teela Carson and husband, Jim, all of Rainelle; 11 grandchildren, Shawntel, Michael, Joshua, Jake, Kenyan, Janah, Jamie, J.J., Jason, Justin and Jeremy; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Jim Phillips officiating.
The family will accept visitors 1:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Theodore R. Martin
Theodore Roosevelt Martin, 74, of 107 Kentucky Ave., Beckley, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness.
Born June 18, 1932, in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Will and Mary Martin.
Mr. Martin was a self-employed laborer.
He was preceded in death by his companion, Helen Jackson; and a grandson, James P. Brown.
Survivors include a son, Theodore R. Martin Jr. and wife, Margie, of Marble Heights, Md.; four daughters, Linda Knox of Columbus, Ohio, Theresa Williamson of Columbus, Deborah McCombs (Tommie) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Estelle Barber of Beckley; a brother, John Martin of Columbus; four sisters, Virginia Swain of Bluefield, Clara Irvin of Villedale, Va., Mary Mitchell of Lester and Do-rothy Morris of Philadelphia, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Service will be noon Thursday at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Scottie Jenkins and Walter M. Leach officiating.

Jahue T. Meador Jr.
PIPESTEM — Jahue T. Meador Jr., 84, died at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 28, 1922, at Lick Creek, he was the son of the late Jahue Tolliver Meador Sr. and Luzzannie Bell Blair Meador
Mr. Meador was a retired jeweler, a trade he practiced for the past 60 years, and was a past member of Speedway Gospel Tabernacle.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Meador, in 1994; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn L. Meador; two daughters, Drema Ritchey and husband, Doug, of Bluefield and Sharon Irene McBride and husband, Richard, of Pipestem; four grandchildren, Calvin Meador Jr., Michelle Meador Browne, Wesley E.T. McBride and Cary G. Hubbard; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Josh Hubbard, Megan Brown and Jacob Blankenship; and a sister, Rhoda Irene McNiel of Daniels.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Roy Dale Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Edith Daniels Miller
Edith Daniels Miller, 81, of Lester, formerly of Brenton, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 18, 2006.
She has entered into the gates of our Heavenly Father, touching his garment and visiting with her daughter, Debra.
Born Jan. 18, 1925, in Summin, Ind., she was the daughter of the late George Hall and Gypsie Compton Collins.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of Lester Baptist Church. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller’s hobbies included quil-ting and embroidery.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-ceded in death by her first husband, Graden Daniels; her second husband, James T. Miller; her daughter, Debra Shadd; and two brothers, Garnet and Vernon Hall.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Edith Hodges and her husband, Bill, of Lester and Linda Harold and her husband, Paul, of Saltville, Va.; four grandchildren, Eric Harold of Greenville, S.C., Dr. Matthew Hodges and his wife, Tamber, of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Emily Singletary of Norfolk, Va., and James Shadd of Marianna; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Shelby Harold, both of LaPlata, Md., and Nate Hodges of Fuquay Varina; a brother, Robert F. Hall and his wife, Jean, of St. Mary’s, Ohio; and two sisters, Elsie Smith and her husband, Don, of St. Mary’s, Ohio, and Ada Moran and her husband, Jim, of Summerfield, Fla.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with Pastor Wes Rigdon officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Drewey E. “Sonny” Mullens, 71, of 111 Fulton Avenue, Beckley, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Princeton Community Hospital following a short illness.
Born at Maple Meadow on Feb. 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Ora Richardson Mullens and Rev. Ezra Mullens.
Drewey was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, and spent 10 years in the Air Force. After discharge from service he began working at Lockheed Martin as an aircraft mechanic. He spent the last four years of employment with Lockheed working in Saudia Arabia. After retirement from Lockheed, he began working at Raleigh County Memorial Airport in 1978 until 1997 as a flight line supervisor.
Survivors include a son, James K. Mullens of Bolt; a daughter, Nancy Wallace of Morrow, Ga.; a brother, Kermit Mullens and wife, Ethel, of Maple Meadow; and three sisters, Imogene Kerschner and husband, Gary, of Beckley, Marsha Morgan and husband, Onnie, of Charleston and Betty Grubb and husband, Bill, of Tennessee.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Don Pflegar officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

RUPERT — Faye Small, 69, of Stadium Drive, passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 18, 2006, at her home following a long illness.
Born Feb. 13, 1937, at Clintonville, she was a daughter of Clara Loudermilk Cruse of Rupert and the late Herbert Cruse. She was a former office manager for Vecellio & Grogan Construction Co.
Other than her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Small Sr., in 2005.
Survivors include her mother, Clara Loudermilk Cruse of Rupert; two daughters, Colleen Baker of Kernersville, N.C., and Carolyn Young of Rupert; a son, James R.
