DETROIT — Nannie Lawson Meadows, 80, formerly of Tams and Beckley, died Friday, April 6, 2007, in a Detroit, Mich., hospital.
Born Nov. 30, 1926, at Tams, she was the daughter of the late George Lawson and Henrietta Lawson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Meadows; a son, Earl Clifton Nealy; three sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include a son, Andrea Meadows of Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Georgia, Nanette, Lisa and Satanya, all of Detroit; two brothers, Jeremiah Lawson of Washington, D.C., and Stephen Lawson of Beckley; three sisters, Sarah Haskin of Beckley, Mary Celia Thomas of Beckley and Dulcina Gilbert of Beckley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Service will be Friday at Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Detroit. Burial will follow in Detroit.

Charles Moody, of Sophia, passed away in Raleigh General Hospital on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, following a short illness. He was 80 years of age.

Marjorie Arnold Schapiro
MOUNT HOPE — Marjorie Arnold Schapiro, 85, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Born Nov. 25, 1921, at Skelton, she was the daughter of the late Denver and Lena Mae Bailey Arnold.
Mrs. Schapiro was a homemaker.
Margie was a well-known doll collector and antique dealer in Maryland and Fayette County. She was loved and will be greatly missed by many friends in Mount Hope and her adopted family at Carpetbaggers in Oak Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Schapiro; a son, David Schapiro; sisters, Hester Burgess and Edith Roberts; and a brother, Fred Arnold.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Schapiro and wife, Lori, of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Sue Gallagher and husband, Charlie, of Lenni, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Darlene Schapiro of Reisterstown, Md.; sisters, Ruby Wolfe of Seivering, Fla., and Doris Carlile of Madison, Ala.; several nieces and nephews, including Fred Arnold and wife, Barbara, of Shady Spring, Linda Arnold and husband, John Catselis, of Charleston and Paula Arnold and husband, Clint Matthews, of Virginia City, Mont.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Per her wishes, Mrs. Schapiro was cremated. Memorial service will 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Ronnie Stapleton officiating.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Gloria Vipperman Shuff
Gloria Vipperman Shuff, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Appalachian Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Born July 21, 1925, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Derb and Virgie Hager Vipperman.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Vipperman, and a sister, Betty Tindila.
Those left to treasure her memory are her husband of 52 years, Murray Shuff; her sister, Joyce Groseclose; nephews, Dennis Vipperman and Mark Groseclose; a niece, Patricia Crawford; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Whitener and her husband, Earl; sister-in-law, Mary Shuff of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews.
Her first employment after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School was at Grants department store. She entered the bookkeeping field and became office manager for Vipperman Construction Co. Murray and Gloria owned and operated Meadows Lumber Co. for 25 years.
She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was an active participant in the women’s activities of the church.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She belonged to the Fayette and Raleigh County Genealogy Society and served as treasurer for a number of years. She was a member of several business and professional organizations, including the Quota Club and the Woman’s Club.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Don Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pauline M. Alderman
Miss Pauline M. Alderman, 86, of Beckley, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, in a local care facility of natural causes.
Born Ap-ril 24, 1920, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Burl and Josephine Sutphin Alderman.
Miss Alderman was a retired school teacher, having taught for one semester at Concord College, one year at Mark Twain High School and finished her teaching career at WWHS, teaching for 36 years. She was a 1938 graduate of WWHS, received her B.S. degree form Concord College in 1942 and later received her M.S. degree for WVU in 1953. Miss Alderman was a member of First Baptist Church, Beckley, and was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Bernice Alderman, Mabel Rutherford, Thelma Wills, Agnes Stemple, Wanda Griffith and Edna Haig; and a brother, Wilbur Alderman.
Miss Alderman was the last surviving of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three nephews, George Rutherford and wife, Jearldine, of Elizabeth, Thomas Haid and wife, Carol, of Spokane, Wash., and David Griffith of Indiana; four nieces, Carolyn Watson and husband, Ralph, of Bluemont, Va., Linda Newton and husband, Bobby, and Joan Thomas and husband, George, all of Fredericksburg, Va., and Karen Criss and husband, Charles, of West Chester, Ohio; good friend and caregiver, Robin Dunning of Beckley; and dear friend, Gene Hedrick of Beckley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Dr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Louise Collier Baker
On Wednesday, April 11, 2007, Louise Collier Loncavish Baker passed away at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. She was in her 95th year.
Louise was born Dec. 20, 1911, at Big Stone Gap, Va., the daughter of the late John Alexander and Martha Maggard Collier of Big Stone Gap.
Louise settled in the community of Eccles many years ago where she worked in the company store. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church at Upland and a past member of First Christian Church, Court House Square, Beckley. Louise had resided at Teays Vallery Center for the last two years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Loncavish and Frank Baker; a grandson, Justin Loncavish; brothers, Don, Fred and Milford Collier; and a sister, Vera Fleenor.
Survivors include a son, Tom Loncavish and his wife, Teresa, of Milton; grandsons, Jason Loncavish, and Michael and Steve Music; sister-in-law, Doris Collier of Beckley; nieces, Martha Rizzo and her husband, Bob, and Becky Doman and her husband, Dan; great-neices and nephews, Bob Rizzo and wife Kylie, Karen Hensill and husband, Charles, and Jenna Mancini and her husband, Ron.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service. Private burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

FAYETTEVILLE — Kelli Laraine Witt Blake, 44, of Fayetteville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 8, 2007, at home.
Born Jan. 8, 1963, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of Lena Ardinia “Mickey” Boyd Witt Fleck of St. Albans and the late Charles Robert Witt.
Kelli was a member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Fayetteville High School, a dispatcher for the State Police in Beckley and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Robert Witt; brother, Charles Jeffrey “Jeff” Witt; and stepfather, Albert Don Fleck.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles “Chuck” Blake; her mother, Mickey Witt Fleck of St. Albans; a son, Thomas “Jeremy” Witt Warford of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Layne Bradford Witt of Charleston, S.C.; a nephew, Jeffrey Boyd Witt; and a host of friends and relatives.

Elder Kenneth E. Cadle
CRESTVIEW, Fla. — Elder Kenneth Earl Cadle, 92, of Crestview, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Silvercrest Manor in Crestview.
He was a member and former pastor of Palm Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Crestview. His other pastorates include West Virginia churches in Craigsville, Greenville and Webster Springs, and the Enterprise Church in Alabama. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ for 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gladys “Patty” Cadle; parents, Paris and Melvina Cadle; brothers, Elijah, French, Willis, Virgil and Emery Cadle; sisters, Glenna Cadle, Ora Dodd, Ethel Lilly, Norma Rice and Garnet Winkiewicz; granddaughter, Sheila Cadle; and grandson, Alden Cadle.
Survivors include his sons and their wives, Keith and Christine Cadle of Crestview, Jerry and Edna Cadle of Springboro, Ohio, and David and Shirley Cadle of Crest-view; his grandchildren, Melinda Swihart of Wasilla, Ark., Anthony Cadle of Dayton, Ky., Melissa Ballard of Niceville, Philip Cadle of Herndon, Va., Jeremy Cadle of Crestview, and Benjamin Cadle of Arlington, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elder Ernest Cadle of Coal City.
Service will be Saturday, April 14, at Palm Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Crestview, with Elder Las-serre Bradley Jr. and Elder Michael Green officiating. Interment will be in Liveoak Park Memorial cemetery, Crestview.

Myrtle Marie Chapman
NETTIE — Myrtle Marie Chapman, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 8, 2007, after a short illness.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Downtain Chapel Methodist Church in Nettie and had been a member of Eastern Star No. 52 of Summersville for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Chapman; a sister, Opal Dodrill; and a brother, George Dodrill.
Survivors include three sons, Michael and wife, Linda Chapman, of Nettie, Gary and wife, Carol Chapman, of Fairfield, Calif., and Jimmy Chapman at home; a daughter, Mary Ann and husband, Melvin Tanner, of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bert Dodrill of Richwood; and two sisters, Eula Swearingen of Craigsville and Gertrude Dodrill of Fenwick.

Theola Gay Evans Johnson
OAK HILL — Theola Gay Evans Johnson, 79, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born July 18, 1927, at Hilltop, she was the daughter of the late James Oscar Evans Sr. and Estelle Champe Evans.
She was a member of Mount Lookout Baptist Church.
Gay was a 1946 graduate of Mount Hope High School, a member of Winolia Chapter No. 59 OES Mount Hope and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Johnny Evans, and brother, Charles Franklin Evans.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Glen Darrell Johnson; a daughter, Annette Johnson of Oak Hill; two brothers, Bill Evans and James O. Evans Jr., both of Oak Hill; and a sister, Frances Loving of Toledo, Ohio.
Graveside rites and committal will be 11 a.m. Saturday at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, with OES Rites. Entombment will follow.
