Mitchell Dean Mabes
DUBLIN, Texas — Mitchell Dean Mabes, 53, of Dublin, Texas, formerly of Brenton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Terrell, Texas.
Born Jan. 6, 1952, at Welch, he was the son of Patricia A. Mabes of Brenton and the late George “Dixie Belle” Mabes.
Mr. Mabes was a 1970 graduate of Baileysville High School and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two daughters, Dara Owens and Dana Brown, both of Stanford, Ky.; two sisters, Debra Lester and her husband, Donald Lee, of Steeles, and Vicki Toler and her husband, Larry, of Rocky Gap, Va.; and five grandchildren.
A private service will be held in Waco, Texas.

Richard ‘Pres’ Neil
Richard “Pres” Neil, 69, of White Water Road, Nicholas County, died Jan. 5, 2006.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Poe. The family will receive friends from noon until time of the service Tuesday at the church.

Lonnie Darl Queen
DENVER, N.C. — Lonnie Darl Queen, 91, formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Brain Center in Mooresville, N.C.
Born Oct. 23, 1914, at Stiltner, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lindsey and Julia Maynard Queen.
Mr. Queen graduated from Wayne County High School in 1934. He then moved to Logan County, and worked for Haner Brothers General Merchandise Company. He joined the Civil Conservation Corps and served three years. Upon leaving the CCC he was employed by Beckley Hardware Company until the start of World War II. At that time he moved his family to Baltimore, Md., to work in the shipyards. He returned to Beckley after the war and returned to Beckley Hardware Company.
Mr. Queen purchased Lilly Hardware Company in Beaver in 1951, which he operated with his son until he retired to Florida in 1976. He was one of the founders of the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department and was one of the original members of Flat Top Lake Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Sibyl Keatley Queen.
He is survived by his son, Gary Darrell Queen of Denver, N.C.; a granddaughter, Debra Underwood of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Michael Lon Queen of Crouse, N.C., and Gary Don Queen of Lincolnton, N.C.; two great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters. Mr. Queen is also survived by two sisters, Macy Bonda of Charlotte, N.C., and Narva Gelardi of Ft. Myers, Fla.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Vondie Cook officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Pallbearers will be Michael Lon Queen, Gary Don Queen, Derek Queen and Zakkary Underwood.

Martin Toler Jr.
Martin Toler Jr., 51, entered into his Heavenly home on Jan. 2, 2006, due to a mining accident.
Born Jan. 22, 1954, he was the son of the late Martin and Ethel (Cline) Toler of Cyclone.
Jr. was a 1971 graduate of Oceana High School. He had more than 30 years of experience in the mining industry. Jr. was a devoted Christian, a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Adult Bible Study teacher at Stump Chapel Church at Tesla, W.Va. He was a doting and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved life to its fullest and was a strong witness and blessing to all that knew him. His final message to everyone was “Tell all I will see them on the other side.”
In addition to his parents, Jr. was preceded in death by six brothers, Elliott Lee, William (Bill), Edmond, Charles (Buzz), A.W. (Upie), and Harris Toler.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Lou Russell Toler of Flatwoods; a son, Chris Toler and his wife, Jennifer, of Flatwoods; a daughter, Courtney Browning and her husband, Brandon, of Flatwoods, W.Va.; and a special nephew, George Toler and his wife, Crissy, also of Flatwoods; six grandchildren, Lindsey and Natalie Toler, Chase and Cole Browning, and Drew and Abbey Toler, all of Flatwoods; four brothers, Tom Toler and wife, Karen, of Summersville, Millard Toler and wife, Elizabeth, of Davin, David Toler and wife, Sue, of Little Birch, Dean Toler and wife, Patti, of Exchange; a sister, Ruby (Sis) Haught and husband, Tony, of Cyclone; mother-in-law, Madge Cook Russell of Flatwoods; father-in-law, Ralph Russell and wife, Lois, of Matheny; sisters-in-law, Margie J. Toler of Flatwoods, and Juanita Toler of Cyclone. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Stump Chapel Church, Tesla, with the Rev. Marvin Given and the Rev. Earl Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Braxton County cemetery on Airport Road, Sutton.

Laura Carolene Vance
Laura Carolene Vance, 68, of Prosperity, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born July 13, 1937, at Stephenson, she was the daughter of the late Lonza Meadows and Mabel Shrewsbury Meadows.
Mrs. Vance was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church and lived in Prosperity most of her adult life.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jack Vance; son, Jack E. MEADOW BRIDGE — James Olen Wickline, 67, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.
Born Feb. 26, 1938, at Meadow Bridge, he was the son of the late James F. and Arthena Lilly Wickline.
Mr. Wickline had served in the U.S. Air Force and he was retired from The Greenbrier Hotel where he worked as an electrician. He was a member of the Millbrook Baptist Church of Crickmer.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Adkins Wickline of Meadow Bridge; two daughters, Erica Linley and Trina Smith and husband Rick Smith, both of Meadow Bridge; two sons, David Wickline of Nashville, Tenn., and Michael Wickline of Meadow Bridge; three stepsons, Anthony Barker of Dalton, Ga., Gregory Barker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and James Edward Barker III of Cummings, Ga.; three sisters, Phyllis Cales of Hinton, Reva Lowe of Sarasota, Fla., and Edna Matics of Meadow Bridge; two brothers, Doug Wickline and Danny Wickline, both of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Mesha Harrah, Carrie Wickline and Shauna Adkins; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Travis Harrah; and 10 stepgrandchildren.

Ricky Ray Williams, 46, of Clear Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Hilltop Health Care, Hilltop, following a short illness.
Born Feb. 22, 1959, at Beckley, he was the son of Stella Mae Bailey Williams of Hilltop and the late Virgil Ray Will-iams. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lorn Williams.
Ricky attended the Ewings Creek Church.
Besides his mother, other survivors include a brother, Randy Lee Williams and his wife, Angie, of Toney Fork; a sister-in-law, Arlene Williams of Mount Hope; and four nephews, Cecil, Buford, and Timmy Williams and Dillard Jack.

Elvin D. Wilson
HINES — Elvin D. Wilson, 72, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his home following a long illness.
Born April 17, 1933, at Marfrance, he was a son of the late Filmore L. and Velma C. Sartain Wilson.
Mr. Wilson had served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of VFW Post No. 15250 of Charleston. He was formerly employed by General Motors in Flint, Mich., and was an auto parts salesman and truck driver during his earlier years. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA, as well as a member of Sewell Valley Baptist Church of Rainelle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patty Bennett and Martha Warlitner.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lockhart Wilson; two daughters, Lola Drennen of McRoss and Beverly Skaggs of Quinwood; two sons, Henry Wilson of Hines and Rodney Wilson and wife, Tammy, of Spring Dale; three sisters, Catherine Hickman of Williamsburg, Va., Toynette Martin and husband, Argyle, of Baltimore, Md., and Bonnie Agee and husband, John, of Warren, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Harry Bennett of Michigan and Tommy Warlitner III of Selma, Va.; a brother, James Wilson of Flint, and a half brother, Lawrence Wilson of Rantoul, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Tashia, Shannon and Buddy Drennen, Aaron and Amber Wilson, and Brian Skaggs and Nathan Kirk.

Wilmer Thomas Bailey Jr.
Wilmer Thomas Bailey Jr., 65, of 500 Old Piney Trail, Beaver, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.
Born Sept. 5, 1940, at Rhodell, he was the son of the late Wilmer T. Bailey Sr. and Dorothy Meade Bailey, and stepmother, Alma Ater of Barboursville.
Mr. Bailey was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He had two tours of duty in the Vietnam Conflict. He had worked as a housekeeping supervisor for Raleigh General Hospital and Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Bailey.
Besides his stepmother, Alma Ater, survivors include his wife, Margaret Thompson Bailey; a daughter, Sue Rakes and husband, Rick, of Logan County; and a half brother, David Bailey and wife, Cindy, of Texas.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Troy Bolen officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
