PINEVILLE — Ama M. Bowden Combs, 92, of Pineville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, in Wyoming Continuous Care Center, New Richmond.
Born Feb. 2, 1913, at Jesse, she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Letha Cook Bowden.
Mrs. Combs was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and a member of Cook Memorial Baptist Church, Pineville. She enjoyed her family, church and bird watching. She was always happy and her laughter was contagious.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Ocel, Virgil, Basil and her twin brother Creel; a half sister, Delores; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Teddy Combs Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Rupert and James Combs and his wife, Phyllis, of Ravencliff; two daughters, Mary Church of Oceana and Mildred Caldwell and her husband, John, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, Tracy Bowden of Cleveland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and her ex-husband, Teddy Combs Sr. of Oceana.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Cook Memorial Baptist Church, Pineville, with the Revs. Clay Phillips and Glen Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

WHITESVILLE — Delcie Marie Peters-Daniel of Whitesville, born June 24, 1925, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at her home after a short but hard battle with cancer, with her sons at her side.
Delcie was a member of Whitesville Baptist Church; she lived what she believed and brought happiness and love to everyone she met. She truly never met a stranger.
She is survived by her sons, William Glen Daniel and his wife, Barbara, of Whitesville and Danny Lee Daniel and his wife, Molly, of Whitesville; granddaughters, Sissy Ann Johnson and husband, Char-les Johnson II, of Charleston and Stavey Lynn Daniel-Fragile and husband, Matthew Brandon Fragile, of Beckley; grandson, Navy GM2 Matthew Barrett Daniel, stationed in Seattle, Wash.; great-grandson, John Charles “J.J.” Johnson III; and great-granddaughter, Daniella Jane “Peanut” Fragile.

Christine Pack Hatch
Christine Pack Hatch, 65, formerly of Beckley, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital following a tragic accident on Nov. 28, 2005, in Dothan, Ala.
Born Oct. 9, 1940, in Munich, Germany, she was the daughter of Joseph and Maria Nosch.
Chris was an extraordinary Mother and Grandmother, or as she was called, Oma. She was an extremely gifted and loving person who loved life and made the most of every moment. Chris was a resident of Beckley for more than 30 years, during which she made many friends and touched very many lives. She loved going to church and also enjoyed sharing her love of the Lord with everyone she met. Chris was also a very successful business woman during her life in Beckley. She owned several establishments, such as Beckley Fire Extinguisher, Filipo’s Lounge, Christi’s Boardroom and a bed and breakfast called The Bavarian Gasthaus.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Frederick L. Pack Jr. and Robert S. Hatch.
Survivors include a sister, Sonja Dressel; a niece, Doris and nephew, Werner Dressel, of Germany; a son, Frederick L. Pack III and wife, Darlene, of Navarre, Fla.; a son, Joseph L. Pack of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Cheryl Pack Myers and husband, John, of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren, Frederick L. Pack IV (Kris) and wife, Nicole, of Montgomery, Ala., Tiffany Tilley of Arlington, Texas, Brittany Pack of Navarre, Brandon Lee-Myers of Arlington and Ashley Myers of Arlington; and a great-grandchild, Sabrina Pack of Montgomery, Ala.
Chris had wished to be cremated and her ashes will be taken back to Germany to rest where her family resides. A memorial service will be held there. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

James Beecher Hinkle
CRAIGSVILLE — James Beecher Hinkle, 89, of Craigs-ville, went peacefully at home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, with his loving wife at his side.
He was a Baptist. He was a true educator. He was a teacher and coach at Richwood High School, Cowen High, Burnsville High and Nicholas County High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a musician. He was a graduate of Richwood High School and WVU. He loved the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Blaine and Cordella Kiser Hinkle; and four brothers, Delbert, Austin, Clarence and Lee Hinkle.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Johnnie Hinkle; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Tim Skaggs officiating. Interment will be in Russell cemetery, Craigsville.

Howard Lee “Whitey” Martin, 84, of Holiday Road, Lookout, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.
“Whitey” was a U.S. Navy veteran, a disabled coal miner, and attended the Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Arbutus Ward Martin, in 1991; and a son, Howard Martin Jr., in 1993.
Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Benger and husband, John, of Edmond, Linda Koelliker and husband, Tim, of Houston, Texas, and Phyllis Sliwa of Fort Worth, Texas; five sons, John Martin of Danese, Ronald Martin and wife, Dea Ann, of Mabscott, Steve Neff of Fayetteville, Roger Harris of Columbus, Ohio, and Mark Martin of Lookout; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace and Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with Bishop Clarence Toney officiating. Burial will follow at cemetery Hill, Russellville.

Aulton D. ‘Brown’ Smith
FAIRLEA — Aulton D. “Brown” Smith, 90, of Fairlea, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at his home in Fairlea.
Mr. Smith was born June 23, 1915, at Dothan, and was the son of the late Rev. Frederick E. and Amanda Toney Smith.
Mr. Smith was owner operator of Custom Upholstery for over 40 years, and also retired from the State of West Virginia as a field agent for the Non-Intoxicating Beer Commission, was a member of the BPOE Lewisburg Elks Lodge, VFW, was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer, was a member of the Lewisburg Elks Country Club, served with the Civil Conservation Corps, West Virginia National Guard, and was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, and member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Brant Smith; sister, Alpha Pugh; brothers, Alfred, Basil and Paul Smith; and grandson, Brant DeHaven.
Survivors include his daughter, Terri Johnson of Lewisburg; his son, A. David Smith and wife, Linda, of Ronceverte; two grandsons, Noel P. DeHaven of Charleston and David W. Johnson of Lewisburg; two brothers, Harrison “Averal” Smith of Pine Grove, Ky., and Arch Smith of South Charleston; a special nephew, Paul Smith and wife, Carol, of Hurricane; and many other nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Leo Barnabi, 74, of Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 21, 1931, at Paint Creek, he was the son of the late Patsy Barnabi and India Bonds Barnabi.
Mr. Barnabi was a retired employee of the city of Beckley with 38 years of service as a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Tony Barnabi; two brothers, Eddie and Frank Barnabi; and three sisters, Mary Stewart, Helen Hatfield, and Jean DeAngelis.
