Randolph Hendrickson
MOUNT HOPE — Randolph Hendrickson, 90, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Born July 25, 1915, at Long Branch, he was the son of the late Herbert and Donna Grose Hendrickson.
Mr. Hendrickson was retired from General Electric Co. and was a member of Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 AF and AM, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Belva Lively Hendrickson; a son, John Hendrickson and wife, Donna, of Oak Hill; and a grandson, Wesley Hendrickson of Oak Hill.
Committal service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Hope, Beckley, with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope.

Margaret Ellen Hewlett
Miss Margaret Ellen Hewlett, 92, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at her residence to be with our Lord.
Born May 23, 1913, she was the daughter of the late James William and Daisy Souder Hewlett.
Margaret was a licensed practical nurse and a homemaker. She was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters which later became the Ladies of St. Francis. She was a volunteer at the Beckley VA Medical Center and Pinecrest Hospital for many years.
Miss Hewlett was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and making items for family and friends. She loved children and enjoyed playing canasta with her friends and collecting cards and stamps which she sent to the mission for the children’s project.
She was preceded in death by brothers, James Arnold Hewlett and the Rev. Leonard Clayton Hewlett.
She is survived by three sisters, Wanda Williams Hughes and Sarah Meadows Shrewsbury, both of Beckley, and Carol Dobson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral liturgy will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus officiating. Rite of committal will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., led by the Rev. Mr. Don Wise.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.

William Frank Mitchell
RAINELLE — William Frank Mitchell, 89, of Rainelle, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea following a short illness.
Born April 30, 1917, at Big Stick in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late William Jackson and Mary Sue Stump Mitchell.
Frank enjoyed his work for 44 years at the Rainelle Department Store and for 14 years at Aide’s Discount Store. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a former city councilman for the town of Rainelle, a charter and life member of Rainelle VFW Post No. 4484, served in the Local Home Guard prior to his Navy enlistment and attended First Baptist Church in Rainelle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Cletus Mitchell.
Survivors include his wife, Wenona Flint Mitchell; a son, Gerald Franklin Mitchell and wife, Karen, of West Farmington, Ohio; two brothers, Peter Jackson Mitchell of Orrville, Ohio, and Arnold Ray Mitchell and wife, Irene, of Beckley; and a host of friends and church family.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Dana Gatewood and Pastor Keith Shumaker officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call noon to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ron Fleshman, Randy Pendleton, Mike Jones, Hal Osborne, Roger Dilley, Allen Fletcher, Gary Smith and Larry Crane.

Ruth McKay Taylor Mullins
Ruth McKay Taylor Mullins, 79, of Terry, departed for her heavenly home on Monday, May 1, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
Born April 30, 1927, at Cunard, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Lula Pennington Taylor.
Mrs. Mullins was a former employee for the Raleigh County Board of Education in the transportation department and a homemaker.
She was a member of Terry Independent Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eugene Mullins, on Jan. 9, 2004.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Billy Taylor, and four sisters, Nellie Stotts, Lucille Buckland, Lena Higgins and Pearl Arnold.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Donald Mullins of Terry Beach and David Mullins and wife, Cara, of Oak Hill; two daughters, Bonnie Hudson and husband, Freddie, and Brenda Christy, who was also her caregiver, all of Terry Beach; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside rites and committal service for family and friends will be 1 p.m. today at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Gene Hall officiating. Burial will follow.
There will be no visitation.

James E. Parsons, 71, of Beaver, died at his residence Thursday, May 4, 2006, following a short illness.

Billy Ray Simmons
OAK HILL — Billy “Bill” Ray Simmons, 73, of Oak Hill, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006.
Born Sep. 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Chester Simmons and Mary Fine Simmons.
He served in the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army as a gunnery sergeant. Billy was an avid baseball fan who loved the Cincinnati Reds and John Wayne westerns. He was employed with Moodespaugh Lumber Co. for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sue Williams and Janet McMullen.
Billy is survived by his wife, Sandra Simmons; daughters, Lisa Law and husband, Michael, of Oak Hill and Stacy Cook and husband, Donald, of Reidsville, N.C.; granddaughters, Marissa and Brenna Law and Samantha Cook; brothers, James Simmons and wife, Patricia, of Cranberry and Marvin Simmons and wife, Ivory, of Cranberry; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. E.G. “Buzz” Keller and Pastor Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may gather with the family one hour before service today at the funeral home.

Barbara Josephine Stephens
TORNADO — Barbara J. Martin Stephens, 78, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006, after an extended illness.
Barbara “Bobby” was born in South Charleston on May 24, 1927. The third child of seven, Barbara lived the majority of her life in Tornado. After raising her four children, Barbara enjoyed the company of her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Forest Martin and Goldie Martin of St. Albans; her brother, Forest Martin Jr.; and her sisters, Sybil King of Austin, Texas, and Emma Jean Adkins of St. Albans.
Barbara was a wonderful wife and a loving mother who lived her life for her children. She is deeply loved and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Sylvester Austin Stephens Jr.; her daughter, Monica J. McDowell and her husband, C.D. McDowell; her daughter, Patricia L. Selman and her husband, Phil L. Selman; her daughter, Cindy D. Byrnes and her husband, Brian A. Byrnes; her son, Timothy D. Stephens and his wife, Nancy S. Stephens; seven grandchildren, Kimberly G. McDowell, Stephanie L. Beverage, Nicole S. Walters, Brandon A. Byrnes, Jacob A. Stephens, Joy A. Stephens and Nathaniel A. Byrnes; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Gene Martin, Clarence “Woody” Martin and Larry Martin. She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews as well.
Service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B St., St. Albans, with Rev. Clare J. Sulgit-Horn officiating. Entombment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. There will be no visitation preceding the service.

OAK HILL — Monoka Madeline Sublett, 81, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Laurel Ridge Care Center, Oak Hill, following an extended illness.
Born Dec. 5, 1924, at Camden-on-Gauley, she was the daughter of the late Zachariah McCoy and Emma McCoy.
Monoka was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christine Annette Morton, and a great-grandson, Andrew Gregory.
Survivors include her two daughters, Pamela Annette Arnold of Elm City, N.C., and Barbara Sue Richmond of Fayetteville; two brothers, Robert McCoy of Panama City, Fla., and Clarence McCoy of Charleston; two sisters, Vanna Weiss of Galdstone, Ore., and Shonnie Wright of Woodburn, Ore.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor Ron George Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
