Dennis Dell Toler

CHRISTIAN — Dennis Dell Toler departed this life Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the age of 33 years, 10 months and 24 days at his residence.

Born May 8, 1972, at Man, he was the son of Roy “Jack” and Betty Mae Morgan Toler.

Dennis was a 1991 graduate of Man High School, employed by Madison Coal Co. at Rita and of the Protestant faith.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carlos and Pearl Kennedy Toler; his maternal grandparents, Wirt and Ethel Kennedy Morgan; and a special uncle and aunt, Paul and Lucy Toler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jack and Betty Toler of Christian; two children, Zachery Edward Toler and Autumn Cheyenne Toler; a brother, Clint Toler and his wife, Kay, of Bruno; two nieces, Kendra Toler and Heather Denise Browning, both of Bruno; his ex-wife and friend, Mary Toler of Bruno; and a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of Dennis’ life will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gilman Bottom Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Campbell and the Rev. David Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn cemetery, Pecks Mill.

Casketbearers will be Jamie “Buck” Elswick, Danny Kennedy, Robbie Kennedy, Roy “Dary” Toler, Randy Bobbitt and Todd Goodman. Honorary casketbearers will be Clint Toler and Paul “P.J.” Toler Jr.

The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Marjorie L. Armstrong

LOONEYVILLE, W.Va. — Marjorie L. Armstrong, 79, died Feb. 9, 2006, at the Roane General Hospital in Spencer.

She was born Nov. 6, 1926, at Spencer, a daughter of the late Hoy and Addie Batten Miller.

Mrs. Armstrong was retired from the Spencer State Hospital and was a foster parent.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Boggs-Hively of Clendenin; a son, John Melvin Armstrong Jr. of Looneyville; a stepdaughter, Ruth Bennett of Rainelle; three stepsons, Melvin E. (Jack), Thomas, and John L. Armstrong, all of Rainelle; two brothers, Tim Miller of Spencer and David Miller of Michigan; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, and two brothers.

There will be no service or visitation.

Per Mrs. Armstrong’s request, the body has been cremated. Burial will take place at a later date at the Corliss cemetery in Rainelle.

Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of the arrangements.

Georgia Lilly Blackburn

Georgia Lilly Blackburn, formerly of Sunrise Avenue, Beckley, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, in a Beckley care center following a long illness. She was 85 years of age.

Born on Oct. 3, 1920, at Shady Spring, Georgia was the daughter of the late John Russell and Delia Crawford Lilly.

Georgia spent her childhood at Cool Ridge on West Whitby Road. She and her family attended the New Haven Baptist Church on Blue Jay Six Road. A longtime resident of Sunrise Avenue, she was formerly employed at the Glass House on the Turnpike.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son and brother, Riley Lilly.

Survivors include her husband, Amos Blackburn; a stepdaughter, Janet Vosburg and her husband, Kyle, of Oceanside, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. David Trump officiating. A private burial will follow Monday at the Crawford Family cemetery at Cool Ridge.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Brown

Robert L. “Bob” Brown, 73, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.

Born July 29, 1932, in Ford City, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Brown and the late Helen Augustine Brown.

Bob was of the Catholic faith, loved to golf, fish and hunt. He worked for J.C. Penny for 39 years; he was a member of the Rotary Club, the Moose Lodge, and Black Knight Country Club.

Bob served his country in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Benedict Brown.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Katharine Paula Brown; daughter, Corrine Kepp of Elmira, N.Y.; a son, Bruce Brown and wife, Stacy, of Perkasie, Pa.; grandchildren, Tyler Brown and Jenna Brown; stepgrandchildren, Justin Martina and Megan Martina; sister-in-law, Nancy Brown; several nieces and nephews, several friends, and a special friend, James Chambers.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Mark Schrade officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Lee ‘Bobby’ Brown

RICH CREEK, Va. — Robert Lee “Bobby” Brown, age 71, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.

Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. today at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. Friends may call 10 a.m. until noon today at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown.

Gloria L. Crouch

SUMMERSVILLE — Gloria L. Crouch, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at the CAMC Memorial Division.

She was the daughter of the late I.E. and Mercedes Coffman Lively Sr. and was born in Cabell County on Oct. 21, 1931.

She was a retired administrative assistant of 27 years for Nicholas County Community Action.

She was an active member of the American Tole Painters Association and the Summersville Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by brothers, George and I.E. Lively Jr., and a sister, Jacqueline Swann.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James G. Crouch; a son, James Robert “Jim Bob” Crouch of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Ramsey of Louisville, Colo.; a brother, Jack Lively of Huntington; and four grandchildren, Adam, Asheley, Bailey and Mick.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Summersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert “Robin” Crouch and the Rev. Roger Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Summersville Baptist Family Life Center.

ANNVILLE, Pa. — Albert Joseph Fodor, 97, died Dec. 24, 2005.

Elmira F. Grose

SUMMERSVILLE — Elmira F. Grose, 88, died Feb. 9, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home, Summersville. Friends may call one hour before the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Connie Sue Pettry Lamb

PIPESTEM — Connie Sue Pettry Lamb, 54, of Pipestem, went to be with her Lord on Feb. 9, 2006, at her home following a long illness.

She was born Feb. 21, 1951, in Boone County; she was the daughter of Virginia St. Clair Pettry of Pipestem and the late C.D. Pettry.

Connie Sue graduated from Hinton High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Concord College in Athens and had many hours toward her Master’s degree. She was a past employee of the Summers County Board of Education and a member of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Meghan Elisa Lamb.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Thomas D. Lamb, and her sons, Zach and Corey, all of Pipestem; her daughter, Melanie Oliver and her husband Rob, her grandson Conner, all of Scott Depot. Additional survivors include her mother, Virginia St. Clair Pettry of Pipestem, her brother David Pettry and wife Deb of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and two nephews, C.D. Pettry II of Atlanta, Ga., and Jonathan Pettry of Tallahassee, Fla.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. today, Feb. 11, 2006, from the Pettry Family cemetery, Lick Creek, near Pipestem with the Rev. Carl Edwards officiating. A dinner will immediately follow at the Pipestem Ruritan Building.

Those wishing to attend services are requested to meet at the cemetery by 11 a.m. today.

Serving as pallbearers are Gary Foley, Larry Lane, Carl Crowder, John Harris, C.D. Pettry and Jonathan Pettry.

The family has requested that memorial gifts of love can be made in Connie Sue’s memory with the Hospice of Southern WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25801.

The Lamb family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton, W.Va.

Luther H. Lusk

CYCLONE — Luther Harold Lusk departed this life Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at his residence at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 25 days, following a long illness.

Born March 15, 1937, at Logan County, he was the son of the late Luther Ray and Hazel Bailey Lusk.

Mr. Lusk was a coal miner for 22 years, a member of the Local Union No. 7604, and a member of the Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Lusk lived life to the fullest; he was loved by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lusk was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenna K. Watts; a brother, Robie Lusk; and a sister, Brady Jean Lusk.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Gertrude Lusk of Cyclone; a son, Tony Lusk of Cyclone; a daughter, Patty Riddle and her husband, Charles, of Cyclone; two grandchildren, Kenneth R. Riddle of Kopperston and Bobby J. Riddle of Cyclone; three great-grandchildren, Megan Brooke Riddle of Kopperston, Alexander Chase Riddle and Makayla Riddle, both of Cyclone; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Mr. Lusk’s life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at the Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in the Browns cemetery, Cyclone.

Casketbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Services entrusted to the Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.
