Raymond B. Cook
LYNCO — Raymond B. Cook, 85, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, following a short illness, on what would have been his 61st wedding anniversary.
Born Feb. 13, 1920, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Charles Cook and Annie Francis Cook Blankenship.
Mr. Cook was of the Baptist faith, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the UMWA Local Union 7692 at Lynco.
He loved being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Alice McCormick Cook; and a sister, Nina Cook, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Libby Allen and her husband, Carlos, of Glen Daniel; two sons, Joseph B. “J.B.” Cook and his wife, Deanna, of Oceana, and Charles D. “Chuck” Cook and his wife, Kay, of East Bank; five grandchildren, Darice Gordon and her husband, Aaron, of Glen Daniel, J.R. Cook and his wife, Cindy, of Cameron, N.C., and Samantha Cook, Seth Cook and Drew Cook, all of East Bank; and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tom Milam officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Military rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.

Norman Edward ‘Ed’ Adkins
HINTON — Norman Edward “Ed” Adkins, 85, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born March 27, 1921, at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Norman Casky and Gertie Susan Taylor Adkins.
He was a lifelong resident of Summers County and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Harnold, Johnny and Ernest Adkins.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna Mogene Hicks Adkins; three daughters, Norma Sims and Jason of Hinton, Edna Adkins of Elton and Holly Adkins and friend, Danny Mann, of Talcott; three stepsons, Berthel Cales Jr. and Hershel Cales and wife, Sandra, of Hinton and Robert Cales of Beckley; a stepdaughter, Ginger Hunt and husband, Lee, of Beckley; four grandchildren; a sister, Edith Andrews of Meadow Bridge; three brothers, Curtis Adkins and wife, Louise, of Sandstone, Eldridge Adkins and wife, Denise, of Latty, Ohio, and Arthur Adkins and wife, Judy, of Woodbridge, Va.; a sister-in-law, Paulett Adkins of Hinton; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton. Burial will follow in Adkins Family cemetery, Sandstone.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral parlors.

Zane Harold Bane
COWEN — Zane Harold Bane, 74, of Cowen, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division following a short illness.
Born Sept. 10, 1932, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Fred and Essie Polk Bane.
Mr. Bane was of the Baptist faith and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and also loved working with wood and bee keeping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Bane; a sister, Margie Bane.
Survivors include his wife, Garnet Parsons Bane of Cowen; three sons, Jeff Bane and his wife, Amy of Ohio, Steve Bane and his wife, Lisa of Hartford, Wis. and Scott Bane and his wife, Janice, of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Frank Bane of Lynco, Bill Bane of Chicago, Ill., Gene Bane of Lynco, and Dale Bane of Crouch’s Farm; two sisters, Jessie Thompson of Chicago, Ill., and Edna Bane of Lynco; and seven grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Evans Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the McDonald Family cemetery on Crouch’s Farm.

John Echols Jr., D.D.S.
John Echols Jr., D.D.S. was released from his earthly bonds, Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006. He passed peacefully while reading his paper, after his morning walk with his beloved dog, Sandy.
Dr. Echols was born Sept. 19, 1936, to very loving parents, the late Dr. John Edward Echols, M.D. and Virginia Pauley Echols. He was the older brother of Dr. William J. Echols of Huntington, and the late Rev. Charles R. Echols, D.D. He grew up in Richwood, a place near and dear to his heart. One of his favorite pastimes was reflecting on his happy family and home life.
Dr. Echols graduated from Richwood High School, West Virginia University and the WVU School of Dentistry. He practiced in Lewisburg for 39 years. He loved his profession and caring for others. His retirement from practice in June 2002 was a bittersweet experience for him.
Dr. Echols had many wide-ranging interests in addition to his practice, and knew and loved a great many people.
Dr. Echols was active in his church, Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church and in the Williamsburg community. One of his favorite activities was kite flying with Williamsburg school children. He loved to visit and chat with friends and neighbors at the Williamsburg Post Office and T.N.T. Garage. His most recent passion was his involvement with M.C.R.E. and the ongoing fight against the mountaintop wind turbines.
An infant son, John Jordan Echols, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Bostic Echols; son, William Edward Echols of Williamsburg, Va.; son, Dr. John Charles Echols and his wife, Gia of Martinez, Calif.; daughter, Carol Echols Moore of Hayden, Idaho; daughter, Sara Echols Jones of Laguna Beach, Calif.; stepson, Denney William Bostic, Esq. of Ravenswood; step daughter, LeAnn Bostic Cecil of Wilmington, N.C.; step daughter, Meredith Bostic McQuain of Ronceverte; grandchildren, Elsa Moore, Demi McQuain, Emma Bostic, Ragan McQuain, Kate Bostic, and Trevor Mayhew; three special nieces, Sandy, Liz and Virginia and their children; and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Susie.
His greatest pleasures were family and services to others. To that end, he was an organ donor and donated his earthly remains to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate life of Dr. John Echols on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Old Stone Room of Carnegie Hall, Lewisburg.

Elmer J. Farris
Elmer J. Farris, of Beckley, died at Raleigh General Hospital on Nov. 11, 2006, after a long illness.
Born April 15, 1916, at Beckley, he was one of 10 children born to Gus and Jamile Salem Farris.
He was a 1934 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where he was a member of the school band and orchestra. He attended Bowling Green Business College in Bowling Green, Ky. and was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Farris was a charter member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division where he served as a glider man. He spent 41 months in the military, 29 of those over seas, participated in six major campaigns, and was discharged as a master sergeant. After military service, he returned to Beckley where he was co-owner of Gus Farris Department Store working until the closing of the store in 1991. At that time, the store was the oldest continually operating business in Beckley. He was a life time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he was one time director of the men’s choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice M. Lynch and Isabel M. Farris; three brothers, Felix P. Farris, Farris Joseph Farris, and Dr. Frederick P. Farris.
He is survived by a brother, Dr. James T. Farris of Beckley, and three sisters, Helen C. Hayes and Evelyn A. Farris, both of Beckley, and Florence M. Boisse of Manchester, N.H., and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. by Father Samuel Sacus.
Funeral Liturgy will be 11 a.m. today, Nov. 14, at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Beckley. Rite of Committal will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Ralph E. Feazell
FAYETTEVILLE — Ralph E. Feazell, 78, of Fayetteville, died on Friday, November 10, 2006.
He was preceded by his parents Wayman and Thelma Baughan Feazell, a brother, John, and a daughter, Ann.
Mr. Feazell was a member of the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge LaFayette Lodge #57, Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Feazell of Fayetteville; a son, Thomas and his wife, Lydia Feazell of Houston, TX; one grandson, Joshua Feazell of Fayetteville; three sisters, Dorothy Roberts, Josephine Cuddy, both of Fayetteville, and Virginia Adkins of Calhoun, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel in Fayetteville on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Catherine S. George officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, in the McClung family plot. Masonic rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.
