Andrew G. ‘Drew’ Riling Jr.
WYOMING — Andrew Guy “Drew” Riling Jr., 28, of Wyoming, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 4, 1978, in Beckley, he was the son of Andy and Beverly Graham Riling and the loving brother of Christopher Neal Riling, all of Wyo-ming.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Willard Graham; paternal grandfather, Charles Riling Sr.; and his cousin and buddy, David Laxton.
In addition to his parents and brother, he is survived by his two precious little boys, Andrew “Jacob” Riling and Gabriel Neal Riling, and the mother of his sons, Amanda Hall Riling; his maternal grandmother, Helen “Mammy” Graham of Wyoming; his paternal grandmother, Frances Riling of Wyoming; his aunts and uncles, Betty and Robert Asbury of Raysal and their daughters, Dee Dee, Kandace, Nerissa, Heather and Chantell, Frances and Ernest Mikels of Fairmont and their children, Patrick “Bo,” Kelly and Tracy, Barbara and Edward Laxton of Keyrock and their children, Mike, Matthew and Brell, Patrick and Tracy Graham of Cool Ridge and their children, Patrick, Valerie, Lana, and Lukace, and Judy and Paul McNair and their children, Lori and Steven; his very special aunt, Yolanda Graham and Wayne Goode of Pineville, Charles Jr. and Jane Riling of Charleston and their daughter, Michelle; great-aunts and uncles, Eli and Charlotte Furo of Rock Hill, S.C., Dorothy Furo of Gaylor, Mich., and Margaret DeMezzo of Stratford, Conn.; and a host of other family and friends.
He was a 1996 graduate of Pineville High School and Wyoming County Vocational-Technical Center. He was a member of Wyoming United Methodist Church, where his memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Gerald Roberts, the Rev. Dennis Saunders, the Rev. Melissa White and Pastor Shadrick Stewart officiating. Drew will be laid to rest beside his maternal grandfather, Willard Graham, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
Pallbearers will be his cousins and high school classmates.

Gregory Cole Scott
JUMPING BRANCH — Gregory Cole Scott, 59, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Beckley following a long illness.
Born May 21, 1947, in Hinton, he was the son of Mildred Cole Scott of Jumping Branch and the late George B. Scott.
Greg was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam Conflict, and was a disabled clerk and train dispatcher for CSX Corp.
He was a graduate of Hinton High School, Class of 1965, and a member of Hinton Masonic Lodge No. 62.
Besides his mother, he is survived by an aunt, Betty Jane Scott of Meadow Creek.
Service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in Cochran cemetery, Mount View.
Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral parlors.
Pallbearers will be Harold Hatcher, David N. Cole, Kevin N. Cole, Rodney Pack, Arthur Adkins and Chris Hersman.

Mary Susan (Feazell) Setliff
Mary Susan (Feazell) Setliff, 94, of Cool Ridge, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at home and surrounded by her loving children following a long illness.
Born Aug. 1, 1912 at Maynor, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry and Rettie (Harper) Feazell.
Mrs. Setliff was a homemaker and the widow of Walter W. Setliff.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Noel and Eddie Setliff; a daughter, Brenda Gale; her sisters, Kathryn Trent and Evelyn Allen; and brothers, Boyd Fea-zell and Ennis Feazell.
Survivors include her children, Reta East-Bell of Roa-noke, Va., Clara Frances Cavallier of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, Carol O’Donnell, Dorcas Baldwin of Cool Ridge, Mary L. Cook and Rebecca Matics of Shady Spring; sons, Paul Setliff of LaGrange, Ohio, Norman, Michael, David, Walter, Keith and Orville Setliff, all of Cool Ridge, and Jerry Setliff of North Carolina; a stepbrother, Donald Mitchell of Georgia; 38 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Setliff was an active member of the Beckley Seniors for many years and the oldest member of Cool Ridge Freewill Baptist Church.
Service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with the Revs. George Speck, Harold Taylor and Orville Setliff officiating. Burial will follow at Setliff cemetery, Cool Ridge.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and alternate pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as flower bearers.

Early ‘Junior’ Thomas Shrewsbury Jr.
SCARBRO — Early “Junior” Thomas Shrewsbury Jr., 77, of Scarbro, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at his home.
Born Jan. 25, 1929, at Pax, he was the son of the late Earl Thomas and Ada Mae Batten Shrewsbury.
He was retired from West Virginia Water Co. with 31 years of service.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stuart Marlin Shrewsbury.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Aliff Shrewsbury; a son, Dwight A. Shrewsbury of Scarbro; a daughter, Vanessa Hope McGinnis of Scarbro; two sisters, Freda Young of Oak Hill and Myrtle Moses of Harvey; three grandchildren, Christopher Barrett, Jennifer Barrett, and Heather Barrett; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shrewsbury has been cremated. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

David Wayne Stoots
On Monday, New Year’s Day, David Wayne Stoots of Eccles died at his home following a long battle with juvenile diabetes. He was 33 years of age.
David was born Dec. 11, 1973, in Beckley, the beloved son of William Warren and Regina “Jean” Martin Stoots of Harper and the late Catherine Simpson Stoots.
David spent his childhood at Harper. He was a 1992 graduate of Liberty High School, and he had attended Concord College and Mountain State University. He had last worked at R E Michel Co. Inc. A resident of Eccles since 2002, he was of the Christian faith. An avid NASCAR fan, his picks were Dale Earnhart Sr. and Jr. He enjoyed football and basket ball. David will be remembered for his engaging personality. He was a great talker.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lawrence Stoots; and maternal grandparents, Clarence and Peggy Simpson and Jennings and Frankie Martin.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife, Helen Ruth Cook Stoots; he was the dear brother of Deborah Rodgers and her husband, Kenneth, of Indianapolis, Ind.; Fredra Blankenship and her husband, Todd, of Ramseur, N.C., Jamey and Scott Stoots, both of Naples, Fla., and Russell Benson and his wife, Angie, of Statesville, N.C.; his paternal grandmother, Dixie Stoots of Eccles; his father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Sharon Cook of Bolt; a large extended family.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Richard Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Marguerite ‘Margie’ Mann Thomas
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Marguerite “Margie” Mann Thomas, 87, formerly of Lindside, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at her home.
She was born July 26, 1919, at Lindside to Samuel Paxton and Lelia Catherine Coulter Mann. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John A. Thomas Sr.; and three sisters, Mary Catherine Mann, Hester Steel and Eula Broyles.
She is survived by her children, John A. Thomas Jr., and wife, Marlene, of Raleigh, N.C., Darla Bowden and husband, Richard, of Winston-Salem, Anne Hylton and husband, Bo, of Eden, N.C., and Lester Thomas and wife, Rhonda, of Salem, Va.; her grandchildren, John A Thomas III and wife, Amy, Emily Thomas and husband, Ric Beard, of Raleigh, N.C., Paul Bowden and wife, Meg, of Charlotte, N.C., Donna Bowden of Bandung, Indonesia, Christopher Hylton of Wilmington, N.C., and Melody Thomas of Salem, Va.; her great-grandchildren, Shane Dunn, Jack and Emma Thomas of Raleigh; and 10 nieces and nephews.
She attended Sedge Garden Baptist Church while living in Winston-Salem with her daughter and son-in-law since 1998. She was a member of Lindside United Methodist Church in West Virginia and served faithfully there for more than 40 years as a children’s Sunday school teacher and active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a homemaker and during the 1980s was the site manager for the Monroe County Senior Center in Lindside.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Lindside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tommy Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard cemetery, Ballard.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, and one hour before service at the church.

Jerry Foster Ward
HILLDALE — Jerry Foster Ward, 64, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation following a long illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1942, at Elverton, he was the son of the late Andrew F. and Erma C. Foster Ward.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew F. Ward Jr. and James W. Ward; and a half brother, Andrew Carlos Ward.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Ann Kelly of Parkersburg; stepfather, James E. Cales of Sandstone; five nephews; and two nieces.
The body has been donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University in Morgantown.
There will be no service.
