LOCKBRIDGE — Quentin R. Daniels, 85, of Lockbridge, had a peaceful departure when he went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005.
Born on Feb. 27, 1920, he was the loving son of the late William and Rosa Gwinn Daniels.
He was a World War II veteran who served his country for nine years. A faithful servant of the Lord, he was a member of Beelick Knob Tabernacle who enjoyed gardening, church events and time spent with his family, especially time with his two great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Winfred, Howard, Emmitt, Algie and Infield; and three sisters, Mary, Laurie and Margie.
Those left to cherish his loving memory include his wife, Nellie Cox Daniels; a daughter, Alfreda Tincher and husband Dave, a granddaughter, Angela Tincher, two great-grandsons, Brandon and Luke, all of Lockbridge; two stepsons, Curtis Cox of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Orville Cox and wife, Jane, of Defiance, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Betty Pomponio and husband, Joe, of Lewisburg; a devoted nephew, Cecil Daniels of Meadow Bridge; several nephews and nieces; and a host of family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Rev. Sherman McCombs officiating. Burial will follow in Dequasie cemetery, Lockbridge, with Rev. Roy Mills officiating. The service will conclude with the release of the White Flights.

Haven P. Davis
Haven P. Davis, 83, of Maple Fork, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born April 23, 1922, at Nesco (Maple Fork), he was the son of the late Price and Emma Givens Davis.
He was a retired federal mine inspector, having retired from the Mount Hope office of the Department of the Interior, U.S. Bureau of Mines. He attended Long Branch Methodist and Bradley Presbyterian Churches. He was a member of the Mount Hope Lions Club and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Mount Hope Lions Club. He was also a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Davis; a son, Haven P. Davis II and wife, Barbara W., of Maple Fork; a daughter, Jo Adail Stephenson and husband, Gregg, of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren, Sonja Williford of Grayson, Ga., and Shane Davis of Birmingham, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Colton and Emma Davis, and Keegan Williford; a sister, Frances Gallagher of Beckley; and a brother, the Rev. Harmon Davis of Maple Fork.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Beulah M. Esham, of the Bayberry, Beckley, formerly of Felton, Del., died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, in a Beckley care center following a short illness. She was 88 years of age.

Bruna Fondale
Bruna Fondale, 88, of Mabscott, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at a local hospital of natural causes.
Born Oct. 4, 1917, at Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late Camillo and Palmira Peraldo.
Mrs. Fondale was a homemaker and seamstress, was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, and had been a resident of Mabscott for the past 56 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony L. Fondale, on April 14, 2004.
Survivors include her son, Phillip Fondale and his wife, Lisa, of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Lola Wolney and Zara Solari, both of Oak Hill; brother-in-laws, Phillip Fondale and his wife, Shirley, of Pleasant Hills and John Fondale and his wife, Santa, of Folsom, Calif.; sister-in-laws, Mary Interdonato and Charity Fondale, both of Beckley, Joyce Fondale of Crab Orchard and Ann Cody of Rock Hill, S.C.; special cousin, Edna Janutolo of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m., led by the Rev. Mr. Don Wise.

Flossie Mae Frye
Flossie Mae Frye, 92, of Beckley, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, in a local hospital after a short illness.
Born May 17, 1913, at Saxon, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Newsom and Emily Jane Hendrix Webb.
Mrs. Frye was a nurse at Raleigh General Hospital for 20 years, was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church and was a lifelong resident of Beckley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Frye; her two sons, Charles and Gary Frye; a stepdaughter, Cecelia Darby; a brother, Eugene Webb and his wife, Elizabeth; a brother, Howard Webb; and a sister, Gladys Turner.
Mrs. Frye was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Nina Frye of Cool Ridge and Ronetta Frye of Glen Daniel; stepdaughter, Virginia Farley and her husband, Hubert, of Beckley; granddaughters, Dr. Angela F. Keaton and her husband, Kevin, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Monica D. Akers and her husband, Gaylon, of Athens; grandson, Charles W. Frye and his wife, Karen, of Shady Spring; and great-grandchildren, Jason, Brandon and Coty Frye and Breanna Dillon.
Service will be 4 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Dowl George Gibson
Dowl George Gibson, 77, of Beckley, formerly of Oceana, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 9, 2006, at his home after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dowl was born at Lorado, a son of the late Samuel and Rhoda Gibson.
He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Julie; four sisters, Freda Sampson, Ruby Bailey, Callie Altherr and Delphia Nicewonder; and four brothers, Carl, James, Dillard and Denny.
Dowl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leona. He is survived by four children, James Dowl “Jimmy” and wife, Debra, Timothy Dale “Timmy” and wife, Sherri, and Angela Steffey and husband, Barry, all of Oceana, and Sandra Hess and husband, Paul, of Summersville. Dowl is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Shelley Zacek and husband, David, of Wilmington, N.C., Amy Price and husband, David, of Kopperston, James of Wilmington, N.C., Sara of Oceana, Samuel Hess and wife, Erin, of Fayetteville, N.C., John Hess and wife, Kate, of Endwell, N.Y., Adam, Stuartand Maxwell Gibson of Oceana, and Cassie and Austin Steffey of Oceana. Dowl is also survived by four great-grandsons, David and Nicholas Zacek and Benjamin and Isaac Price; a great-granddaughter, Baby Anna Hess; and several special nieces and nephews. Dowl is survived by two sisters, Esther Baker and Delma of Jackson, Ohio. He leaves behind a host of special friends and his little dog, Buddy.
A former member of Oceana Freewill Baptist Church for 47 years, Dowl was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church of Beckley for the last 11 years, where he was an honorary usher, a service he loved to perform. A coal miner for 28 years, Dowl was retired from Eastern Associated Coal, Local Union 7604. Dowl enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was well loved by all who knew him. He will be forever missed.
A celebration of his going home to glory will be 11:30 a.m. today at Oceana Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Roger Pauley and Jackie Grimmett officiating.
Friends may visit one hour before service today at the church.
Casketbearers will be his grandsons, nephews, Andrew Mazon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey and Earl Pritchard Jr.
Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

JUSTICE — Ronnie Allen Lilly Sr., 59, formerly of the Sophia area, died at 3:38 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born July 20, 1946, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Russell and Kathleen Redden Lilly.
Mr. Lilly was a born again Christian and an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his devoted wife, for 13 glorious years, Susie Toler Lilly; a daughter, Bettie Lilly Paul, and very special son-in-law, Randy, of Sophia; three sons, Ronnie Jr. and wife, Tracey Lilly, of Crab Orchard, Timothy Lilly of West Virginia and Joey Dale and wife, Jessica Cline, of Justice; a brother, Darryl (Jackie) Lilly of Crab Orchard; three sisters, Kathy (Ashley) Marsh of Crab Orchard, Carolyn (Danny) Summers of Fairdale and Prince Darlene (Roger) Weis of Fairdale; two granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
He had a very large host of family and friends, plus special friends, Calvin Wiley of Gilbert, Jimmy Joyce of Justice and Jared Martiney of Buckhannon.
Memorial service will be held at a later date at Stonewall Jackson Lake in Lewis County. There will be no burial; the body will be cremated.
Friends may call 6 to 11 p.m. today at Justice Tabernacle Church, where a funeral service will be 7 p.m. with the Revs. Randall Staton and Diamond Carter officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Walls, Skylar Marsh, Darryl Lilly Jr. and Joey Pruitt.
