PINEY VIEW — Uldine Logan, 76, of Piney View, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at 3:10 a.m., at the Charleston Area Medical Center General Division, following a long illness.
Born at Lookout on Oct. 31, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James H. Flint and Rinda Adkins Flint.
Mrs. Logan was of the Baptist faith, and was a 1949 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.
She was preceded in death by her son, James Stanley Logan; an infant sister, Merle Flint; two sisters, Audrey Perotti and Gerri Webb; and a brother, J.H. Flint.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James Harold Logan at home; three daughters, Vickie Higginbotham and husband, Clark, of Piney View, Kathy Jones and husband, Pete, of Piney View, and Karen Wamsley and husband, Tim, of Lynchburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Brian Higginbotham, Eric Smith, Rinda Moss, and Logan Wamsley; and four great-grandchildren, Erica, Alexis, Trevor and Alex.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with the Rev. Gene Hall and Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Wallace Memorial cemetery at Clintonville.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Ramon ‘Ray’ Looney
On Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, Ramon Arden Looney of Redwood Lane, Crab Orchard, died at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years of age.
Known affectionately as “Ray,” Ramon was born on March 25, 1932, at Looneyville, the son of the late Mollie Looney Smith and the Rev. J. Herbert Smith of Clover.
Ray spent his childhood at Looneyville, where he was a graduate of Spencer High School, Class of 1949. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served on the U.S. Midway. Following his stint in the Navy, he enrolled at Marshall University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. While attending Marshall, he would meet his future wife, Rosanna Riffe of Crab Orchard. They would marry on May 25, 1957. He furthered his studies at the University of Michigan, where he received a Masters in Business Administration.
After completing his college studies, Ray returned to Huntington, where he taught at Marshall for 3 years in the Business Department. He then began a career with the U.S. General Accounting Office in Atlanta, Georgia. While working in Atlanta, Ray, Rosanna and their son, Russell, resided in Stone Mountain, Ga. Retiring in 1992 with 30 years of service, he and Rosanna returned to this area, making their home in Crab Orchard. Ray became an active member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, teaching the Friendship Sunday School Class, and serving as chairman of the deacons.
On his return to Beckley, Ray began a new career, teaching at Mountain State University in the Business Department. He retired in May of 2006 as chairman of the department.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed landscaping, model trains, playing with his dogs and listening to Christian music.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Charles Walton and Alma Meadows Riffe; brother-in-laws, Carl Riffe and Don Lilly; sister-in-laws, Sandy Smith and Judy Riffe.
In addition to his father, Rev. Smith, and his beloved wife Rosanna, he is survived by his dear son, Russell Looney of Nashville, TN; a sister, Louise Ward and her husband, Jim, of Clover; and members of the Riffe family, including Ruth Astle and her husband, David, and Ray Riffe and his wife, Jean, all of Grandview; Mary Ellen Ellifritt and her husband, Maywood, of Gainesville, FL; Orpha Loretta Lilly of Columbia, S.C.; Rachel Patton and her husband, Dan, of Columbus, Ohio; Jean Riffe of Dowell, MD; Gene Riffe and his wife, Margaret, of Hague, VA; Jan Riffe and his wife, Margaret, of Dawson; Don Riffe of Roswell, GA; Vivian, Rebecca, Bill, Robert, Butch and Howard Riffe and his wife, Marcella, all of Crab Orchard. Many nieces, nephews, former students, friends and co-workers will also remember Ray with deep affection.
Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Shields and the Rev. Bob Matherly officiating. A eulogy will be offered by brother-in-law, Dan Pat-ton. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be family members and men of the church.

Violet Mae Lusk
FANROCK — Violet Mae Lusk, 79, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 29, 1927, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late William K. and Asie England Lambert.
Mrs. Lusk was a member of Brenton Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, teaching Sunday school, shopping and being with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two bro-thers, Bob and Ronnie Lambert.
Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Burbridge Lusk; a son, Ray Lusk and his wife, Dixie, of Fanrock; three daughters, Loretta Lamastus and her husband, Roger, of Mullensville, Linda McGraw and her husband, Tim, of McGraws, and Connie Hall and her husband, Jessie, of Fanrock; nine grandchildren, Theresa Matics, Holly Harmon, Brandon Cook and his companion, Brad Legg, Shannon Lusk, Joseph Lusk, Vickie Jenkins, Dustin West, Jeremy Walker and Angie Hatfield; and five great-grandchildren, Nyah Matics, Allie Harmon, Dylan Hatfield, Sydney Hatfield and Connor Walker.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Mathey.
Family will serve as pallbearers.

Charles Denver McCormick
Charles Denver McCormick of Dry Creek, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, after a long illness.
He was born March 5, 1921, at Olcott, W.Va., a son of the late Cecil and Ella Clark McCormick.
Mr. McCormick served four years in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, Bolt, and a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean Acord and husband, Eugene, and a brother, Cledith McCormick and a granddaughter, Stacy Gilfilen.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geneva Lovely McCormick; two daughters, Sandra Kay Gilfilen and husband, Dale, of Rock Creek, and Nancy Gayle McCormick of Boca Raton, Fla.; a sister, Arlene Bailey and husband, Frank, of Rock Creek; a brother, Hershel McCormick and wife, Mae, of St. Albans; two grandchildren, Brandon Gilfilen and wife, Sabrina, and Derek Gilfilen, and fiancé, Paula; three great-grandchildren, Richelle, Serenity and Branson; 10 nephews and nine nieces.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with CLP David Pettry officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller cemetery at Rock Creek, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 4326 of Sophia.

SAULSVILLE — Danny Miller, 55, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Pauline Royal Repass
PRINCETON — Pauline Royal Repass, 68, of 408 North Third St. in Princeton died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at Princeton Community Hospital after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s for several years.
Born April 15, 1938, in Mullens, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Paul B. and Ida Mae Tilley Royal.
She was a graduate of Mullens High School and a member of the Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was always active in the lives of her family.
In addition to her parents, one brother, Paul Franklin Royal, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James E. Repass of Princeton; two sons, James F. Repass and wife, Claudia, of Princeton and Paul E. Repass and wife, Connie, of Sarasota, FL; two daughters, Kimberly Barnett and husband, Greg, of Princeton and Cynthia Quijano and husband, June, of Anaheim, CA; six grandchildren. Johnathon Repass, Kayla Repass, Jon Repass, McKenzi Barnett, Jamie Barnett, and Jade Quijano; and two sisters, Loretta “Jo” Blankenship and husband, Gary, of Pineville, W.Va., and Patricia Wilson and husband, Glenn, of Clayton, Ohio.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton with the Rev. Larry Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Woodrow Settle Jr.
MINDEN — James Woodrow Settle, Jr., 54, of Minden, died on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at his home, of an apparent heart attack.
Born March 6, 1952, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late James W. Settle, Sr. and Alice Mae Bowyer Settle.
Mr. Settle was a former Police Officer for the City of Ansted and a mechanic for Deligne Motors in Ansted.
A sister, Karen Lee Settle, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Debbie Settle; a son, James W. Settle III of Ansted; a daughter, Shalena S. Settle of Ansted; stepdaughter, Darcy Shuff of Minden; two brothers, Marvin Settle and wife, Joyce, of Ansted and Gary Settle and wife, Susan, of Atlantic, Va.; three sisters, Joyce Neal and husband, Clyde, of Victor, Sandy Hundley and husband, Kenneth, of Victor, and Jenny Settle of Ansted; and four grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Father Roy G. Crist and Dr. E.R. Wallace officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Betty Sims, formerly of Oak Hill, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007.

Mary Sowers
Mary Elizabeth Blackburn Weeks Sowers, died Jan. 7, 2007, at Hidden Valley Nursing Home, following complications of a stroke.
Mary was born Mary Elizabeth Blackburn in Louisa, Ky. She completed high school there and later moved to Oak Hill with her first husband, Asa Clarence Weeks. After her first husband died, she married Tazwell Willard Sowers.
Mary owned and managed several businesses and rental properties. She was an avid supporter of continuing education, taught herself to type, completed business schools in Beckley and Charleston and continued to take a variety of self-education courses. She attended beauty school and subsequently owned and operated the Curl and Swirl Beauty Parlor in Oak Hill for over 30 years.
Mary was an avid bowler, participated in several Oak Hill ten pin leagues for many years and traveled yearly to bowling tournaments in West Virginia, Atlantic City, New Jersey and Las Vegas, Nev. A devout Christian and member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, she also attended other churches with close friend and especially enjoyed her trips to Jerusalem and the Middle East to visit the “Holy Land.” She also enjoyed her travels to Hawaii. Mary was active in local politics and a strong supporter, fundraiser and friend of various democrats including former W.Va. Governor and current U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller.
Because of Mary’s love of the community, she was an active leader and participant in numerous organizations including serving as president of the Oak Hill Garden Club, president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, worthy matron of the Easter Star, worthy high priestess of the Jerusalem Shrine in Beckley, W.Va., chief of the Pythian Sisters Temple 132, and member of the American Historical Society of Kincaid, Oak Hill Moose Club and others. Mary was an active supporter and participant in the annual Oak Hill Sports Festival and W.Va. Bridge Day event in Fayetteville.
Survivors include her sons, Clarence Weeks of Ocala, Fla., Howard Weeks of Laytonsville, Md. and Richard Sowers of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Another son, James Weeks of Apple Creek, Ohio is deceased.
Survivors also include her sisters, Gwendolyn Sanger of Oak Hill and Phyllis Hayes, Maxine Yinger and Nevelyn Elkins of Columbus, Ohio.
Family and friends will celebrate Mary’s life Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with service at 11:30 a.m. at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 East Main St., Oak Hill. Final resting place will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Dennis Paul Stiles
CALLAHAN, Fla. — Dennis Paul Stiles, 70, of Callahan, Fla., formerly of Glen Fork, passed away Dec. 18, 2006, at his home, following a short illness.
Born May 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Marie Minton Sti-les.
Paul was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he served as an usher, chaperoned youth activities, participated in church dramas and other church activities.
Other than his parents, Paul was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diana Lynn; brothers, Edward ‘Jigger’ Stiles, Donald ‘Gene’ Stiles and Herman Stiles; and sisters, Juanita Shumate and Doris Harold.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Stewart Stiles; daughters, Theresa Stiles and Sandy Driggers and her husband, Bruce, of Callahan; son, Gary Stiles and his wife, Michelle, of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Brian Stiles, Aleah, Logan, Reagan and Kobe Stiles, Joey and Jacob Driggers, and Pierce; sisters, Lucille Harold of Oceana and Gladys Stiles of Beckley; brother, Robert Stiles and his wife, Judy, of Sophia; sisters-in-law, Marie Stiles, Beulah Stiles, Linda Stewart and Nancy Stewart; and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Callahan Funeral Home. A celebration of Paul’s life was conducted on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at First Baptist Church of Gray Gables. Burial followed in James cemetery.
Edith M. Webb
BRISTOL, Pa. — Edith M. Webb, age 79, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at the Pickering Manor Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Webb was born at Lester, where she grew up. She moved to Bristol in 1962 and worked at the Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol for 17 years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Webb.
Survivors include her three children, Kenneth R. Webb and his wife, Ruth, Denny Webb and his wife, Peggy, and Ritchie Webb and his wife, Jennie, all of Levittown, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Merle Hawley of Lester.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial funeral service 11 a.m. today, Jan. 9, 2007, at the Regency Room, Swain and Mifflin Streets, Bristol, Pa. Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until time of the service.
