PHILADELPHIA, Tenn. — Carliss Eugene Adkins, 67, of Philadelphia, Tenn., passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fort Sanders Foundation Fellowship Center Fund, 1901 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916.

Wanda Marie Adkins
OTSEGO — Wanda Marie (Graham) Adkins, 79, of Otsego, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, in a Beckley hospital, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1928, at Amigo, she was the daughter of the late Vester and Lura (Lilly) Graham.
Mrs. Adkins was a homemaker, was Baptist by faith, she attended the Otsego Bible Chapel, Otsego, and had been a resident of Otsego for the past 44 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Adkins; a son, Phillip Adkins; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Adkins; two sisters, Lily Church and Joyce Halsey; and two brothers, Arnet and Clifton Graham.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Eunice Simpson and her husband David of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Judy Campbell of Mullens; two sisters, Bertha Bratcher and Margaret Whitt, both of Mullens; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with David Pollock officiating. Burial will follow in the Phillip Graham cemetery at Basin.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Pauline Bragg
Pauline Bragg, age 80, of Shady Spring, formerly of Abraham, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Raleigh Center at Daniels, following a long illness.
Born on May 14, 1927, at Bragg, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence Radford Bragg.
Pauline was a homemaker, and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Leonard Bragg, Lillie Mae Bragg, Mary Jane Bragg, Lee Roy Bragg, and Oscar Bragg; by great-grandchildren, April Dawn Plumley and Lewis Ferrell Dodson.
Survivors include her daughters, Gracie Bennett of Shady Spring and Ruby Bonds and husband Eddie of Grandview; brothers, Jimmy Bragg and wife Carol of Abraham and Russell Bragg and wife Judy of Pluto; grandchildren, Lisa McMillion and husband Denny, Melanie Plumley and husband Kenneth, Beckie Smith and husband Roger, and Leonard Blevins and wife Misty; seven great-grandchildren, Jamie Blevins, Leslie McMillion, Stacie McMillion, Anthony Plumley, Shayle Smith, Jacob Blevins, and Chelsea Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Frankie Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodson cemetery #1 at Abraham.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Plumley, Roger Smith Jr., Leonard Blevins, Wayne Bragg, Denny McMillion, and Johnny Smith.

Martin Angel ‘Bull’ Durham
Martin Angel “Bull” Durham, age 87, of 200 Juliana St., Beckley, formerly of 523 Bero Ave., Beckley, passed away at 8:13 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Mr. Durham was born on June 25, 1919, at Giles County, Va., and was the son of the late Eugene and Mattie Durham.
Mr. Durham was a retired coal miner and former employee of Meadows Lumber Company. He was of the Christian faith.
Mr. Durham was a World War II veteran in the tank corps and saw action in France where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of that Great Generator which helped preserve the American dream of freedom and hope. We all owe him, and others like him, a deep debt of gratitude for his service and sacrifice on the field of battle.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Those left to cherish his name include his loving and faithful wife of 65 years, Lura Taylor Durham of Beckley; three sons, Martin E. Durham and wife Ina of Beckley, Michael G. Durham and wife Robbin of Flat Top, and Gary D. Durham and wife Cathy of Princeton; a daughter, Kimberly L. Redden and husband Roger of Grandview; eight grandchildren, Rachel Pauley, Lura Jane Barbera, DeWayne Durham, Gene Dur-ham, Travis Durham, Carrie Ray, Andrew Redden, and Matthew Redden; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eloise Pierce of Beckley and Betty Watson of California; and a brother, Tommy Durham of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with minister Gary D. Durham, his son, and assisted by Rev. Robert Wagner. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

John Edward Greene
John E. Greene, 78, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer.
John was the son of the late Azel and “Allie” Dora Cooper Greene.
He was a retired employee of Eastern Coal with over 31 years in the industry; he also worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Best Western Motel in Beckley for 13 years. John loved to hunt, fish, care for animals, and spend time with his cherished grandchildren.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Hatcher-Greene; twin sons, Ronald and Donald Greene; a grandson, Eddie L. Hampton Jr.; four brothers, Carson, Paris, Homer and Earl; and four sisters, Nellie, Berthie, Ethel, and Little Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janice Carter Greene; daughters, Katheryn “Ann” Hampton and her husband Eddie of Dawson, Drema Pauley of Arlington, Texas, Rhonda Belcher and her husband David of Sherman, Texas; a stepdaughter, Angela Phalen and her husband Mike of Eastlake, Ohio; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard J. Greene and his wife Ardis of Beckley.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Sophia Church of God in Sophia, with Pastor James Bostic officiating and Rev. Jessie Farley opening the service. The family will begin to receive friends at 12 p.m. Entombment will be at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, W.Va.
Donations of sympathy may be made to the Hospice House of Southern W.Va. in the name of Mr. Greene, for the tremendous care they gave during his last difficult days.

Eleanor Bray Hatcher
Eleanor Bray Hatcher, 93, of Beckley, the oldest surviving child in a family of 11 children, died Thursday, May 24, at Heartland of Beckley, where she had been a resident the past few years.
Born Eleanor Bray Porterfield on July 28, 1913, in Salt Sulphur Springs, Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Vinnie Bray Porterfield.
Educated in public schools in her hometown area, she was a homemaker and had worked as both a private nurse and for a Beckley dry cleaning plant before retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hatcher, a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Joan) Kershner, a granddaughter, Patty Breder, sons-in-law Hank Breder and Bill Kershner, sisters Lola, Edith, Lillian and Esten, and brothers Harry, Clyde, Benjamin, Paul, Claude and Bernard.
Survivors include a daughter, June Breder of Mount Holly, N.J.; a son, Gene Bennett and wife Theresa of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren, Bobbie Bre-der of Mount Holly, N.J., Hank Breder, and Matt and Mark Kershner; nine great-grandchildren; and many devoted nieces and nephews, Carol Ann Sellards, Claudette Salango, Benny and Peggy Porterfield, all of Beckley, Lee Porterfield of White Sulphur Springs, Larry Porterfield of Stanaford, and Mannix Porterfield of Price Hill.
Graveside rites and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, with Rev. Allan Gallimore and Rev. Carl Sellards officiating.
There will be no visitation.

Philip DeRussie Hogan
BARGER SPRINGS — Philip DeRussie Hogan, 24, of Barger Springs, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, from injuries sustained in a four-wheeler accident.
Born Nov. 23, 1982, in Beckley, he was the son of Benny Hogan of Barger Springs and Stephanie Scott of Hinton.
He was a graduate of Summers County High School in 2001, was a former employee of McDonalds in Hinton, lov-ed video games and music and surfing the Web for cars. He was a member of the River Valley Baptist Church at Forest Hill.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lee and Lois Hogan.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Chris Gilkeson and wife Kim of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Stephanie Biggs of Roanoke, Va., and Mary-Leigh Hogan of Barger Springs and Hinton; maternal grandmother, Doris Van Cleef of Richmond, Va.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Philip had a love of the Lord, life, and the river. He died doing something he loved. He was a good friend to many and will be deeply missed. We love you, Philip.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton, with Pastor Bill Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Barger Springs cemetery.
Philip’s friends will serve as pallbearers.

NETTIE — Helen Marie Mullens, 80, of Nettie, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2007, in Summersville Memorial Hospital, Summersville, after a short illness.

Lena Witt Perkins
Lena Witt Perkins, formerly of Jefferson Street, Beckley, the widow of Rev. J. Elbert Perkins, joined the Church Triumphant Thursday, May 24, 2007, in Aiken, S.C. She was 93 years of age.
Born Nov. 9, 1913, in Dawson, W.Va., she was the daughter of Robert and Ruhamie Witt.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Merrold Duane Perkins and his wife Mary Anna; a grandson, Michael Brent Perkins; a grandson-in-law, Brian Byers; five brothers, John, Claude, Gene, Bill and George; and three sisters, Alma, Myrtle and Pearl.
Survivors include a daughter, Jewell Perkins Eanes and husband James A. of Aiken, S.C.; a son, Lowell A. Perkins and wife Linda of Cocoa, Fla.; nine grandchildren: Melody Eanes Glasing and husband Scott, the Rev. Lisa Kim Eanes Bruce Perkins, Karen Perkins Patrick and husband Bryan, Jeff Perkins and wife Tina, John Perkins, Katie Perkins and husband Ricky Woodall, Vicki Perkins Hicks and husband Gary and Tammy Perkins; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mattie Hutsenpiller of Dunbar, W.Va.; and a brother, Clayton Witt of Canal Fulton, Ohio.
Mrs. Perkins received her education at Smoot High School and Concord College. She served as a teacher and lay speaker in the United Methodist Church, served as President of the Beckley District Ministers Wives, and President of the W.Va. Conference United Methodist Women. Mrs. Perkins was an accomplished seamstress, artisan and baker; her generous spirit blessed the lives of many. Mrs. Perkins, a member of the United Methodist Temple in Beckley, W.Va., worked in ministry for 66 years with her husband, the Rev. J. Elbert Perkins, who was a member of the W.Va. United Methodist Conference. She formerly lived on Jefferson Avenue in Beckley but has resided at the Trinity Lutheran Retirement Center in Aiken, S.C., for the past four years.
A celebration of Lena’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Beckley United Methodist Temple with the Rev. Lisa Kim Eanes and the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Wallace & Wallace Memorial Park, Clintonville.
Friends may call Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.

Betty Swann, age 67, of Beckley, died Thursday, May 24, 2007, at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a long illness.
Born at Beckley on March 29, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Mason and Lulu Marie Quesenberry Parker.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Swann of Beckley; daughters, Brenda Calderis of Beckley and Kathy Swann of South Carolina; a brother, Frank Parker of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Christina Black of Beckley and Jennifer Black of Beckley; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no services or visitation.
