OAK HILL Margaret Louise Noble Humphrey, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home following a short illness.
Born July 9, 1924, at Minden, she was the daugther of the late Lynn and Elsie Turley Noble.
Mrs. Humphrey was a retired seamstress for Newport News Children's Dress Factory, Newport News, Va., with more than 20 years of serivce.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Milton Humphrey.
Survivors include a son, Emmit Ford of Smithfield, Va.; two daughters, Shirley Shillings of Newport News, Va., and Sandra Caulley of Hayes, Va.; a sister, Eva Evans of Oak Hill; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside rites and committal services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gethsemane Memorial Garden, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Alan Shields officiating. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill.

SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. Herbert Edward "Red" Morgan, 88, formerly of Pineville, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000.

Mamie Lois Smith
NIMITZ Mamie Lois Smith, 62, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in Charleston Area Medical Center General Division following a short illness.
Born July 5, 1938, at Pluto, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Ida Meadows Crook.
Mrs. Smith was the former owner of Smith's By-Pass Market and Three Rivers Western Wear in Hinton and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Smith in 1975; and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Cole and husband, Billy, of Nimitz, and Belinda Gail Sarver and husband, Bob, of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, William H. Cole Jr., Derick Edward Cole, Felicia Legail Sarver, Chole Faye Sarver, and Robert Lee Sarver Jr.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with the Rev. Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Crook Family cemetery, near Pluto.

Rev. Henry C. Wheeler
Rev. Henry C. Wheeler, 75, of Skelton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at 6:50 p.m., at the Beckley Veterans Administration Center.
Born Jan. 18, 1925, at Hurricane, he was the son of the late James A. and Lula Wooten Wheeler.
Mr. Wheeler was a retired truck driver. He was U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and later served in the U.S. Army and was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Wheeler Jr.; a daughter, Sandra Ames; a stepson, Randall Potter; and a stepdaughter, Rebecca Tyree.
Survivors include his wife, Dora McKinney Wheeler; two sons, Gary Wheeler and his wife, Sarah, of Fredrick, Md., and Floyd Wheeler and his wife, Debbie, of Letart; two daughters, Peggy Wheeler of Westminster, Md., and Betty Lively of Ironton, Ohio; stepchildren: Pam Ellis and husband, Daniel, of Charlotte, N.C., Dolly McGraw of Mount Hope, Rita Burford of Skelton, Sue Kincaid and husband, Darrell, of Midway, Carolyn Martin and husband, Kenny, of Princewick, Connie Fink of Coal City, and Lee Anglin of Green Valley; a brother, Ernest Wheeler of Huntington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Valerie R. Arnold
MULLENS - Valerie Roselin Arnold, 88, affectionately known as "Rose" and "Rosie," departed this earthly life Monday, Oct. 2, 2000. She was the widow of David Hill Arnold, who died in 1979.
Born Nov. 6, 1911, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Thomas J. Nichols Sr. and Willie E. (Reed) Nichols Williams. The family moved to Mullens, and Roselin graduated from Mullens High School, Class of 1929.
She attended beautician school and operated a beauty shop from her home in South Mullens for many years.
Her husband, David, a southern gentleman from Georgia, stole her heart, and they were married on Feb. 4, 1931.
After David's retirement, they began spending winters in Lake Worth, Fla., and eventually moved there full-time. After making Florida her home for more than 35 years, Rosie returned home to Mullens seven years ago.
Rosie enjoyed people and chose jobs where she interacted with the public. In Florida, she worked at Sears in West Palm Beach as a "rover," selling everything from hand bags to lawn mowers. She then went to real estate school, earned her license and was a successful real estate agent.
She was a great cook, a knitter of many sweaters and a bridge enthusiast, playing with her Mullens Bridge Club up until the last year.
She was a devout Episcopalian and a member of St. Andrew's Epsicopal Church, both in Mullens and in Lake Worth.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Pauline Nichols of Mullens; an aunt, Mary (Mrs. Leonard) Reed Maloney of Beckley; three nieces, Myra Nichols Vance of South Charlreston, Elizabeth Nichols-Ross of Cambridge, N.Y., and Tommie Jo Nichols Arnold of Roanoke, Va.; a great-nephew, John Thomas Vance of Radford, Va., and a great-great-nephew, Seth Vance.
She also leaves behind her dear friend, Louise Hess of Mullens, and her friends and neighbors, Ann and Bob Toler and their daughters, Kealy and Amy, whom she adored.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Mullens, with the Rev. Adeeb M. Khalil officiating. Cremation will follow at Seaver Crematorium, Princeton. Rose's ashes will be buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach, with her beloved husband.

SCARBRO - L.J. Bibb, 91, formerly of Shady Spring, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in a local hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 31, 1909, in Shady Spring, he was the son of the late E.J. and Belle Rakes Bigg.
Mr. Bibb had been a longtime resident of Shady Spring before moving to Scarbro six years ago.
He was a serviceman for New River Co., a member of Open Door Church, Shady Spring, and had served as Sunday school superintendent and deacon.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Polly Jo; three sisters, Sallie Griffith, Edith Massey and Leona Smith; and a brother, Clarence Bibb.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, June Scarborough Bibb; a daughter, Jean Doris and her husband, Alexander, of Scarbro; a sister, Hazel Williams of Shady Spring; two granddaughters, Melanie Skeldon and her husband, Mark, of Mount Hope and Leesa Hinte and her husband, James, of Beckley; five great-grandchildren, Brett Bowyer, Jill Bower, Andrew Hinte, Alexander Hinte and Chase Hinte; and two special nephews, Rick Clark of Ghent and Albert Griffith of Rock.
