Faye Irene Stone, 61, of 829 Stonewall Road, Piney View, died 3:42 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in a Bluefield hospital following a long illness.
Born March 7, 1932, at Layland, she was the daughter of the late Champion Homer Jones and Mary Edna Berry Jones.
Mrs. Stone was a homemaker and had been a Piney View resident most of her life.
She was a member of the God's Tabernacle Church at Lanark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Stone.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy W. Stone of Beckley and Roger D. Stone of Piney View; two brothers, Charles Bailes of Ohio and Howard Jones and his wife, Gladys, of Mabscott; a sister, Kathleen Goddard of Bradley; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Stone.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Goddard, David Goddard Jr., Gary Goddard, Thomas Mann, Eugene Drennen, and Ray Stewart.

James M. Sutherland
TERRELL, N.C. - James Myron Sutherland, 54, of 4107 Cascade St., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Catawba Memorial Hospital, Hickory, N.C.
Born Sept. 27, 1945, in West Virginia, he was a son of Virginia McCoy Sutherland and the late Franklin Pierce Sutherland.
Mr. Sutherland was a graduate of Concord College, Athens, and was formerly employed by Beckley Stone Co., Raleigh Stone Co. and Johnson Limestone Co.
At his death he was employed as a supervisor for the Employment Security Commission in Charlotte, N.C.
Other survivors include a son, James M. Sutherland II; a daughter, Jacqueline R. Sutherland; two brothers, Fred and Frank Sutherland; a sister, Phyllis Hurley; his significant other, Deborah Quesenberry; and his dog, Too.
Memorial services will be Friday at the home of Phyllis Hurley, 211 Briarwood Lane, Cherry Hill, in Beaver.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association.

Donald Lee Thompson Jr. aka Williams Jr.
Donald Lee Thompson AKA Williams Jr., 26, of Beckley, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Laurel, Md.
Born Nov. 8, 1973, at Beckley, he was a son of Donald Thompson of Beckley and Sandra Echols Woods of South Charleston.
Mr. Thompson was a laborer. He attended the Job Corps, attended school in Raleigh County, attended and graduated from Capitol High School in Charleston.
Other survivors include three brothers, Eric Woods of Chicago and Samuel and Marcus Thompson, both of Beckley; a sister, Domique Thompson of Beckley; his stepmother, Mary E. Thompson of Beckley; maternal grandmother, Theola Echols of Beckley; paternal grandmother, Eleanor Ware of Beckley; three uncles, Tyree Echols of Savannah, Ga., John Thompson of Beckley and Foster Thompson of Staten Island, N.Y.; an aunt, Patricia Echols of Beckley; two cousins, Jennifer Tucker of Great Lakes, Ill., and Teila Echols of Beckley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Walter Leach, Abner Wright and Peter Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Dorian 'Art' Arthofer
MANASSAS, Va. - Dorian William "Art" Arthofer, 62, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Prince William Hospital, Manassas.
Born Dec. 2, 1937, in Iowa, he was the son of the late Ralph and Gertrude Maseman Arthofer.
Mr. Arthofer was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Manassas, and George Brent Council No. 5332, Knights of Columbus, Manassas, past faithful navigator, Virginia Beach.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 7589, and American Legion Post No. 10, both of Manassas.
Mr. Arthofer was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict with 22 years of service, retiring in 1976. He also had 20 years of service with AT&T, retiring in 1998.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Loretta "Marie" Arthofer; two daughters, Theresa Arthofer of Pennsylvania and Rhonda DeBoer of Manassas; a son, Mark A. Arthofer of West Virginia; and two grandchildren, Kelsie Arthofer and Jeremy DeBoer.
Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, with the Rev. James A. Verrecchia officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Quantico National cemetery.

Earl E. Bennett
Earl E. Bennett, 65, of Glen Daniel, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home folowing a long illness.
Born April 16, 1934, in Delaware, Ohio, he was the son of the late Joseph Harlem Bennett and Jessie Estelle Green.
Mr. Bennett was a truck driver for Vecellio & Grogan for 22 years, an avid member of Beckley Moose Lodge No. 1606 and the National Rifle Association, and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO, Charleston.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Bennett Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Mary A. Boggs Bennett; two brothers, Joe Bennett of Delaware, Ohio, and Jim Bennett of Marion, Ohio; three sisters, Mildred Walker and her husband, John, Evelyn Mattox and husband, Martin, and Ruby Howard, all of Delaware, Ohio.
Uncle Earl was loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

SALEM, Va. - Jennings Mason Bowling, 65, formerly of Raleigh County, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Salem VA Medical Center following a long illness.
Born March 12, 1934, at Beaver, he was the son of the late Lawrence F. "Curly" Bowling and Vivian Bayes Bowling.
Mr. Bowling was a disabled U.S. Marine veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, where he received numerous medals and was wounded in action.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin, Ronald, Charles and William Bowling; and a sister, Margaret Bowling Godby.
Survivors include two brothers, Edgar Monroe "Buzz" Bowling of Waynesboro, Va., and James Bowling of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister-in-law, Patty Bowling of St. Albans.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with Pastor Edwawrd Garten officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted the by Marine Reserve Honor Guard of Cross Lanes.

Born April 19, 1928, in Clarkson, Ky., he was the son of the late Taylor and Fannie Haycraft Gibson.
Mr. Gibson was a retired employee of The Greenbrier hotel, White Sulphur Springs, an avid bowler and a U.S. Navy veteran with more than 22 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Daphne "Dee" Gibson; a son, Wayne Gibson and his wife, Judy, of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Debby Ward and her husband, Scott, of Terra Alta and Donna Hayes of Harts Run; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Conkin of Louisville, Ky.
