SUMTER, S.C. - Lawrence W. Page, 69, formerly of Minden, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at his home of natural causes.

Julia E. Philpott
Julia Edith Spasiuk Philpott, 88, of Shady Spring, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, in a Fairlea medical center following a long illness.
Born Aug. 11, 1910, in Ukraine, then a province of Russia, she was the daughter of the late George and Mollie Malank Spasiuk.
Mrs. Philpott was a retired teacher for the Raleigh County Board of Education, a 1926 graduate of Collins High School at Epperly Hill and a graduate of Concord College.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Beckley, and was a past member of the Shady Spring Womenıs Club.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Lou Halsey; and succeeded in death by a brother, Michael Spasiuk, on March 6, 1999.
Survivors include her husband, Larkin S. Philpott; two sisters-in-law, Hortense Philpott and Doloris Philott, both of Beckley; three nephews, Sam Philpott of Beckley and Michael and John Spasiuk, both of New York City; a granddaughter, Alexandria Halsey Urschel of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a grandson, Nicholas Van R. Halsey of Palo Alto, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memoirial Park Mausoleum No. 2, Beckley, with the Rev. James D. Lowe officiating.
Friends may call one hour before services at the mausoleum chapel.

Betty L. Thomas, 71, of Beckley, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at her home.
Born Aug. 31, 1927, at Sophia, she was the daughter of the late Louis D. and Lena Mae Suiter Hartwell.
Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomas; and two grandsons, James Fredrick ³Jimmy² Thomas and Wayne William Riedemann.

York of Pipestem and Oneida Halsey and her husband, Gerald, of West Virginia; a brother-in-law, David Thomas and his wife, Roberta; a host of nieces and nephews; 23 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Erma Ruth Wiley, 72, of Dorothy, died at 11:14 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at her home following a long illness.
Born Jan. 9, 1927, at Colcord, she was the daughter of the late Carl Dillon and Lorena Perry Dillon.
Mrs. Wiley was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Wiley Jr.; a sister, Corena Butler; and three brothers, Harold, Roger and Archie.

Mary Jane Wood, 41, of Sophia, died at 7:57 p.m. Tuesday April 20, 1999, in a Morgantown hospital following a short illness.
Born May 31, 1957, at Beckwith, she was the daughter of Ruth Martin Williamson of Tiger, Ore., and the late Mack Williamson.
Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and a resident of Sophia for 17 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Wood Jr.
Other survivors include four daughters, Rebecca Jane Frye and her husband, Eric, of Beckley, Sarah Jane Peters and her husband, Ronald, of Fort Bragg, N.C., Amanda Wood of Asheboro, N.C., and Mary Elizabeth Wood of Sophia; three brothers, Mack Williamson of Portland, Ore., Charles Ray Williamson of Scarbro and John Williamson of Oak Hill; three sisters, Barbara Hampton of Tiger, Nancy Russell of Portland and Gladys Stull of Denver; and two grandchildren, Michael Tyler Frye and Ryan Casey Frye.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with Elder Jason Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Birchfield cemetery, Ellison Ridge.

POINT PLEASANT - Robert Lee Armstrong Sr., 69, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in a Cleveland hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 14, 1930, at Fayetteville, he was the son of the late Rodney R. Armstrong, who died July 16, 1976, and Myrtle Ruth Garten Armstrong, who died March 19, 1994.
Mr. Armstrong was a retired crane operator with Ravenswood Aluminum Corp., a member of Bellemcad United Methodist Church and the United Steel Workers union. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arverill Ray Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife, Merle Y. Hall Armstrong; two sons, Robert Lee "Chip" Armstrong Jr. of New Orleans and John Daniel Armstrong of St. Albans; a daughter, Laura Lane Cullen of Letart; two brothers, Rodney Garton Armstrong of Akron, Ohio, and James Randolph Armstrong of Jackson, Ohio; a sister, Ruth Ann Gavin of Fort Myers, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

QUINWOOD - Thelma Ann Carroll, 86, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in a Fairlea hospital following a long illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1912, at Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late Luther Harvey and Mabel Barrett Rutherford.
Mrs. Carroll was a homemaker and a member of Quinwood Baptist Church and Quinwood Rebekah Lodge No. 36.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Toots" Carroll, on Jan. 11, 1992; two brothers, Earl Rutherford and C.W. Rutherford; and a sister, Lorene Carroll.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Ruth Dudley of Covington, Va.; three sons, Robert E. Carroll and his wife, Shirley, of Hines, Earl Carroll and his wife, Lana, of Covington and Charles Carroll and his wife, Evelyn, of Quinwood; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
