Helen F. Jividen
Helen F. Harper Jividen, 64, of Red house died June 8, 2004, at home following a short illness.
She was a former secretary for the Putnam County Board of Education, a homemaker, and attended Shiloah Community Church, Red House.
Born November 4, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Alice Harpet. She was also preceded in death by two sisters.
Surviving: her husband of 47 years, Delbert Jividen; daughter and her husband, Coinnie and Robert Stover of red house; sons, Robert and Glen “Mike” Jividen, both of Red House; brother and his wife, Ronnie and Felicia Harper of Florida; sister and her hsuband, Sharon and Bob Everitt of Anderson, Indiana; grandsons, Nicholas Stover, Lucas Jividen and Wesley Withrow.
Service was held Friday, June 11, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Larry Covert and Pastor Lee Roy Meadows officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Mausoleum, Red House.
Regina Jordan
Regina Jordan “Jeannie Burgess,” 51, of Winfield died June 9, 2004, at home following a long illness.
She was former owner of Regina’s Dance Studios in Dunbar, Nitro and Teays Valley. She had a 30-year affiliation with Dance Masters and Dance Educators of America. She was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Pittsburgh University of Dance/Theatrical, Carnegie Mellon Dance/Theatrical, and Oglebay Twirling Institute. She attended dance conventions at David Howard and Christopher Dance Seminars in New York, Pittsburgh Ballet Seminars, Ronald Matty, Ken and Jean Broadway Connection, Star Bound, Show Stoppers and Dance Power Express in Pennsylvania .
She was a 20-year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, 10-year member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a lifetime member of the West Virginia Symphony League. She was a current member of Winfield Community Church. She was a former 30-year member and 10-year music director of Children’s Church at Elmore Memorial Advent Christian Church, Charleston, and former 6-year youth advisor and music director at First Church of Charleston.
Surviving: husband of 32 years, Steven W. Jordan; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Michael Taylor of Winfield; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Kim Jordan of Wihfield; brother, Steven L. Burgess of Charleston; grandchildren, Baylee Ann Taylor and Nicholas Michael Taylor; father-in law and mother-in-law, Stanton and Kathryn Jordan of Winfield; aunt, Muriel Keeney of Charleston, and her dog, Maggie.
Service was held Friday, June 11, 2004, at Winfield Community Church with Pastor Mike Rader officiating. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens West Virginia Memorial Mausoleum, Cross Lanes. Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, was in charge of arrangements.
Jacqueline W. Fernandez
Jacqueline Wright Fernandez, 84, of Buffalo died June 10, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital following a long illness.
She was a retired information clerk with the Internal Revenue Service with 15 years of service and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William C. and Mabel Wright, her husband, Jose “Chippy” Fernandez, and one sister.
Surviving: daughter, Donna Strohl and husba,d Roland, of Sebring, Florida; nieces, Jackie and Susan Thaxton, both of Red House; nephew, Leonard Patrick of Red House; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons.
Service was held Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in the WrightCemetery, Buffalo.
Stella Oneita King
Stella Oneita Bailey King, 63, of Red House died June 10, 2004, at home following a long illness.
She was a Christian, a member of Lone Oak Church of God Mission, Red House, and past Worthy Matron of OES Chapter 150, Buffalo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Faye Painter Bailey; husband, James M. King; and sisters, Joyce Woodall and Linda Bailey.

Alvin J. Young
Alvin J. “Abb” Young, 84, of Hurricane died Staurday, June 12, 2004, at SunBridge of Putnam.
He was retired from Union Carbide Corp. Institute Plant, was was a member of Portersville Baptist Church, Hamlin. He was a member of the gosepl group Teays Valley Boys and Putnam Masonic Lodge No. 139 A.F. & A.M., Hurricane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Callie Dona Harbour Young, sisters, Betty E. Young, Inez V. Young Taylor and Reecil Young Bayliss, and brothers, John M. Curtis R., Charles W. and Walter H. Young.
Surviving: wife, Ada Frances Bird Young; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry E. and Sharon Young of Austin, Texas ; sisters, Ima Day of Huntington, Narnie Grant, Eva Fisher and Ercyl Spurlock, all of Hurricane; brother, Elsworth Ray Young of Hurricane; grandchildren, Connie Shamblin and husband, Larry, of Buffalo and Jerry Lee Young and wife, Robin, of Sissonville; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

Maxine Harless
Maxine Harless, 73, of Ona went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 11, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Chapman’s Mortuary with Dallas Moore giving the eulogy. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Logan W.Va., a daughter of the late Pharo Pack and Ruby Moore Black. A sister, Reeoka Pack, and brother, Gerald Pack, also preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Thomas Memorial Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include a loving husband of 55 years, Carmie Harless of Ona; a daughter, Ruby Lee Kieffer of Huntington; two granddaughters and spouses, Carmon Kieffer-Bentley and Mark Bentley of Lexington, Ky., and Kara and Raymond Binder of Huntington; and five great-grandchildren, Kayla Binder, Jestine Bentley, Joshua Bentley, Cody Binder and Laurin Bentley. Along with floral tributes, donations to Hospice of Huntington are welcome. Chapman’s Mortuary, was in charge of arrangements.
Lucille M. Handley Sayre
Lucille M. Handley Sayre, 83, of Milton, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 10, 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nide and Kate Handley, her husband Jack Sayre and her son, James A. Sayre. She is survived by two children, a daughter Barbara J. Ball, wife of Gene Ball, and a son, Jack Sayre Jr. of Milton, and her daughter-in-law Brenda Sayre of Culloden; her sister, Geraldine Salmons of Elizabeth; five grandchildren, Tammy Davidson, Greg Ball, Mike Ball, Jay Sayre and Charity Cole; three great-grandchildren, Todd Davidson, Mikel and Loren Ball. She was a lifelong resident of the Milton area, and will be missed by all. Sandra Gail Hickman
Sandra Gail Hickman, 58, of Milton. passed away Friday, June 11, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, by the Rev. Chelcie Gibson. Burial in Hickman Cemetery. She was born May 24, 1946, in Cabell County, a daughter of the Rev. Richard Black of Barboursville and the late Geraldine Baumgardner Black. She was preceded in death by one brother, Greg Black and one daughter, Hope Gail Nichols. She is survived by her husband, Edmond Ellsworth Hickman; one daughter, Deanna Marie Burgess of Oklahoma; two sons, Danny Nichols Jr. of Huntington and Earl Hickman of Milton; three sisters, Connie Elaine Woodard of Ona, Linda Kay Gardner of White hall Ohio, and Karen Renee Black of Huntington; two brothers, Richard Lee Black Jr., of Pedro, Ohio, and Stephen P. Black of Huntington; eight grandchildren.
Eudoris Dickey Williams
Eudoris Dickey Williams, 84, aka “Mama Doris” and “Doe-Doe,” a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, in St. Mary’s Medical Center following a long and courageous battle. She was born March 14, 1920, to the late Ernest and Emma Dickey of Huntington. She was a devoted and active member of Eastwood Baptist Church where she will be greatly missed by her many kind and loving friends. She retired from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1987 and was an active member of Barboursville Senior Citizens. She will forever be remembered as a beautiful woman both inside and out, a brilliant artist, a friend, wonderful, devoted mother and grandmother and a loyal and caring friend. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Meyer “Mike” L. Williams; two children and their spouses, Marylee Robyn and David Rooper and William D. and Carolyn Qualls; two stepchildren and their spouses, Rick and Marsha Wimbish and Danny and Linda Williams; four grandchildren, Barbara Anne Qualls, Curt Williams Qualls, Steven Ryan Lemaster and Gary Todd Blankenship; five step-grandchildren, Sherry Williams, Michael Williams, Stephen Wimbish, Jason Rooper and Scott Rooper; five step-great-grandchildren; and many lvoing and cherished friends and family. The void she will leave in the lives of those who loved her can never be filled. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Henson Mortuary with Pastor Hugh Summers officiating; burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. She also leaves behind her most beloved “baby dog,” Joy, who is missing her. She loved Joy so dearly. Also, a special thanks to a dear friend, Koral Midkiff, for being there; her kindness is immeasurable.

Sheila Faye McCormick, 58, of Barboursville, loving wife, mother, and mama, went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 7, 2004. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, Fellowship Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born June 26,1945, in Cabell County, a daughter of Richard Hatton of Wayne and the late Bette Newman Hatton. She is survived by her husband, Damer “Bud’ McCormick; five daughters, Cheryl Bellomy, Kelle Angle, Kim Sargent and Rosie Hart, all of Huntington, and Renee Lane of Pennsylvania ; one son, Michael McCormick of Barboursville; two sisters, Jeanie Williamson of Huntington and Brenda Ruley of Lesage; two brothers, Terry Hatton of Huntington and Roger Cornwell; 13 grandchildren Cody, Collin, Callie, Kaylynn, Kaleb, Brandon Kelle, Christopher Timothy, Sienna, Taylor, Justin and Jessica. Betty Lou McElroy
Betty Lou McElroy, 81, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Monday June 7, 2004 in Chateau Grove Senior Living. Funeral services were held Thursday June 10, 2004, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by Pastor Jerry Chapman. Entombment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. Betty was born June 29, 1922, in Huntington, W.V., a daughter of the late G. Howard and Frances Perry Wetzel. She was a member of the Highlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband John Wesley McElroy and one brother Paul Wetzel. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Gary Phillips of Huntington, and one son and daughter-in-law, John and Melinda McElroy of Navarre, Fla.; one sister, Allene Barber of Huntington, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She has now joined her beloved husband, Wes, who was waiting to take her hand. Now they are walking the path together to their Heavenly Home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She loved her family and home. She was an immaculate homemaker and a wonderful cook. There have been many angels in mom’s life that have helped to care for her. Her family would like to express their deep appreciation for all the loving care that has been given to her. Orpha Opal Rose, 79, of Hurricane died May 28, 2004, at home following a long illness.
She was born October 30, 1924 in Hurricane, and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dalton Rose, her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Surviving: sister, Vola Rose of Hurricane; daughters, Ada Call, Linda Faye Davis and JoAnn Rose, all of Hurricane, Marlene Goodwin and companion, Larry Westbrook, of South Charleston; sons, Wendell Rose and his wife, Becky, Frank Rose and his wife, Janet, Jack Rose and his wife, Barbara, Roger Glen Rose and his wife, Virginia, all of Hurricane, Alan Rose and his wife, Valerie, of Dunbar, Richard Rose and his wife, Andie, of Scott Depot; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.

Jewell Marie Hoffman
Jewell Marie Hoffman, 72, of Bancroft died May 28, 2004, at home surrounded by her family.
She was retired from West Virginia Rehabilitation Center and was a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Hoffman.
Surviving: brother, Alfred A. Hedrick of Bancroft; sister, Delpha Rose Allen of Cross Lanes.

Theresa M. Robinette
Theresa Maria Messer Robinette, 37, of Hurricane died unexpectedly May 26, 2004, at the home of her brother in Hurricane.
She was a textile worker for several years and was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Junior Clark Messer, and her brothers, Clark and Jimmy Dale Messer.
Surviving: son, Isaac Dillon III of Milton; mother, Norma Jean Messer of Hurricane; sisters, Leona Miller of Hurricane and Gail Messer of Statesville, North Carolina; brothers, Terry Messer of Statesville, Jimmy Messer of Mooresville, North Carolina, Bobby and Roger Messer, both of Hurricane; several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley. Graveside service was held Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Rocky Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Statesville, North Carolina.

Venus Blake
Venus Rappold Blake, 94, of Culloden died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at home after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Una Rappold, her husband, John Blake, a granddaughter, Joan Bias, and a grandson, Terry Bias.
She was a member of Tempe (Arizona) Church of Christ.
Surviving: son, John E. Blake of Middleport, Ohio; daughters, Jeannine Broyles of Culloden, Geneva Blake of Denver, Colorado, Betty Bias of Richmond, Virginia, Doris Blake and Donna Blake, both of Culloden; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Charles Haynes
Charles Haynes, 84, of Poca died May 30, 2004, at home.
He was born March 26, 1920, a son of the late Amos and Norma Haynes. He was a retired filter plant operator at West Virginia American Water Co.
Surviving: daughters, Karen Spears and Charlie of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Brenda Eastwood and Jack of Poca; grandchildren, Eddie Haynes of Ravenswood and Mindy Spears of Lawrenceburg; great-grandchildren, Matthew Young, Zoe Haynes and Cory Haynes; sister-in-law, Belle Haynes of Evans.
Service was held Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
He was born September 15, 1948 in Hometown, West Virginia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving: wife, Joyh Ann Riester Jeffries; sons, Ryan J. and Brandon R. Jeffries; daughter, Megan M. and Angelique N. Jeffries; mother, Ruby Ganoe Jeffries; sisters, Janet Douglas and Billie Jo Sutherland; four grandchildren.
