Emma Ruth Grubb
Emma Ruth Day Grubb, 76, of Beckley died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at her son's home in Middlebrook, Va.
Born Aug. 2, 1921, at Gatewood, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Ralph and Kathleen White Day.
Mrs. Grubb was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Raleigh County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester David Grubb; a grandson, William W. Woods III; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Allen.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Grubb and his wife, Lea, of Middlebrook, Va., Richard Grubb and his wife, Barbara, of Berryville, Va., and Chester Grubb and his wife, Mary, of Winchester, Va.; three daughters, Beverly Mays and her husband, Curtis, of Gastonia, N.C., Sina Woods of Oak Hill and Alesia Moody of Verona, Va.; three brothers, Patrick Ralph Day of Oak Hill and D.R. and Douglas Eugene Day, both of Burlington, N.C.; seven sisters, Betty Seelinger and Christina Little, both of Burlington, N.C., Frances Maiden of Barboursville, Arvada Ashworth of Dayton, Ohio, Mildred Raddi of Granger, Ind., Kay Pennington of Shady Spring and Colleen Irvin of Beaver; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were 3 p.m. Sunday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Entombment followed in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends called 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Erma Wilma Hicks
RAINELLE Á Erma Wilma Hicks, 77, died Saturday, May 9, 1998 in a Fairlea hospital following a long illness.
Born April 29, 1921 in Greenbrier County, she was the daughter of Martha Forren.
Mrs. Hicks was a homemaker and a member of the Hines Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Verne, of Columbus, Ohio, Kaye Hicks, of Rainelle; a granddaughter, Barbara Coleman and a great-grandson, Deban Coleman, both of Columbus, Ohio.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smathers Funeral Home Chapel, with Gary Eisenman officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call one hour before services at the funeral home.

WHITESVILLE -- Blanche D. Miller, 94, died Friday, May 8, 1998 in a Charleston hospital.
Born March 31, 1904 at Brownstown, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Grover and Lillian Motsinger Davis.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Sylvester Baptist Church, Sylvester, a retired teacher of the Boone County Board of Education with 38 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Miller.
Survivors include two daughters, Lonita Hudson, of Whitesville, Uva Mae Salter, of Beckley; two sons, Darrell D. Miller, of Silver Spring, Md., Odean D. Miller, of Laughlin, Nev.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sylvester Baptist Church, Sylvester, with the Rev. David Minturn officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview cemetery, Orgas.

D. Catherine Tincher Simms, 79, of Beckley, died Sunday, May 10, 1998 in an area nursing home following a long illness.
Born June 17, 1918 at Springdale, she was the daughter of the late John Simmon and Lydia Cleo Surbaugh Tincher.
Mrs. Simms was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Simms; a son, Gene Simms and his wife, Linda, of Grandview; a grandson, Scott Simms and his wife, Kathy, of Hamilton, Ohio; a granddaughter, Robin Campbell and her husband, Neill, of Taccoa, Ga.; a great-grandson, Zachary Campbell, of Taccoa, Ga.; and two great-granddaughters, Stacia and Alexa Simms, of Hamilton, Ohio.
Private services will be held a Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Chuck Akers officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Ruth Jennings Stevenson, 72, of Rt. 2, Box 366 F., Bluefield, Va., formerly of Itmann, died Saturday, May 9, 1998 at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 3, 1926 at Roderfield, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Tichie Dunigan Jennings.
Mrs. Stevenson devoted her life to her family and was a dedicated member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, Princeton, and had been a resident of Bluefield, Va. for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joann Lusk and Drema Sue Jennings; and five brothers, Onnie, Hubert, Charlie, Earl, and Luther Jennings.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Stevenson, of the home; three sons, James Stevenson and his wife, Diana, of Mt. Airy, N.C., George Stevenson and his wife, Cathy, of Bud, Tim Stevenson, of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Lenora Swope and her husband, Chandler, of Bluefield, Va., Debbie Skeens and her husband, Mike, of Itmann, Danora Dee and Robert Jarvis, of Bristol, Tenn.; two brothers, Roger Jennings, of Saulsville, Christopher Jennings, of Pineville; five sisters, Christina Bromfield, of Saulsville, Linda Adams, of Davy, Rita Jennings, of Pineville, Alice Crane, of Logan, Betty Hutchins, of Flint, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Mickey, Ernie, Anthony, and Jami Stevenson, Michelle McElroy, Billy and Susan Swope, Chris and Chad Skeens, Billy and Koree Deeb, and Erica Hall; and a great-grandchild, Steven McElroy.

Raymond L. Bennett
RAINELLE -- Raymond Lester Bennett, 66, of 317 Ohio Ave., died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his home following a short illness.
Born May 16, 1932, at Hinton, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Addie Graham Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a retired machinist for the C&O Railway Company, having been employed for 30 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Machinists, and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Drema Bovine Bennett on May 9, 1998; a son, Raymond L. Bennett; three brothers, Richard, Daniel, and Thomas Bennett; and two sisters, Ethel and Pauline Miller.
Survivors include a brother, Robert R. Bennett and his wife, Norma, of Alderson; four sisters, Thelma Graham and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Ayers, both of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Mann, and Thelma Graham, both of Hinton.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Harry Pilkington officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park, Hinton.
