William Mike “Pickle” McCoy

William Mike “Pickle” McCoy, 38, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with Jesus Friday, April 30, 2004. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Joe Dolen. Burial in Gill Cemetery. He was born Nov. 23, 1965, in West Hamlin, W.Va., a son of the late Raymond “Kayo” McCoy and Esther Lucille Ellis McCoy. He was also preceded in death by a special niece, Kendra Jo McCoy. He leaves behind two very special brothers, Raymond Jeffrey McCoy and Robert Lee McCoy; two sisters-in-law, Christi Renee McCoy and Beth Anne McCoy; three special nieces, Jennifer Lea McCoy, Krystal Dawn McCoy and Kira Nichelle McCoy; special cousins, Eric Lee Ross, Christina Diane Ross and Belinda Ross; special aunt, Janet Roach; special friends, Helen Gill, William Gill and Jeff Thompson; two very special friends and caregivers, Doug Berry and Monte “Cook” Edwards, thank you both for everything you did and being there for him; and a very special thanks to the staff of Autism Services. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Services Center, P.O. Box 507, Huntington, WV 25710-0507.

Leonard Ezekial “Zeke” Nida

Leonard Ezekial “Zeke” Nida, 69, of Salt Rock passed away Thursday, April 29, 2004, after a long illness with cancer. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Mount Calvary Church by the Rev. Joe Dolen and Pastor Ron Eplin. Burial in Nida Cemetery, Salt Rock. He was born November 4, 1934, in Salt Rock, a. son of the late Leonard Hampshire “Ben” Nida and Flarnia Endicott Nida. He was preceded in death by one sister, Arlene Lucas and one brother, Marion Nida. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Denise Nida of Barboursville, Greg and Teresa Nida of Salt Rock, Leonard “Aaron” and Kathleen Nida of Huntington, and Donald “Mickey” and Patricia Nida of Alum Creek, two sisters, Sharon Bailey of Salt Rock, and Mary Carey of North Carolina; seven grandchildren and one on the way. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Hinton “Jarfly” Richmond

Hinton “Jarfly” Richmond, of Huntington, loving husband of Emma Jean Richmond, departed this life on April 28, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center after a short illness. He was born November 26, 1926 in Milton W.Va., the son of the late Hinton and Bessie Ball Richmond. He was retired from Blenko Glass Company with 48 years of service as a glass blower and Plant Manager. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emma Jean Richmond, also three children, a son Jerry “Tony” Anthony Richmond of Huntington, a daughter Jean Allison McClure and her husband Bruce McClure of Louisville, Ky, and another son, Bruce Hinton Richmond of Shelbyville, Ky. In addition he has four surviving grandchildren whom he loved very much. Jennifer Ann Richmond of Huntington, Michael Bruce McClure and Matthew Richmond McClure of Louisville, Ky., Emma Catherine Richmond of Shelbyville, Ky., and a very special little friend Rayse Harris of Owensboro, Ky. He was a member of American Legion Post 177 and a WorId War II veteran serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Army. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, with the Rev. Greg Creasy officiating.

Robert Lee Gibson

Mr. Robert Lee Gibson, 64, of Culloden, W.Va., died April 12, 2004, at his home. He was a retired truck driver for 36 years and was employed with UPS for the last 15 years. He was a 32-year member of Teamsters Local 135, Charleston, a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, a member of Putnam Masonic Lodge No. 139 A.F. & A.M., Hurricane, W.Va., Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies and Beni Kedem Shrine, and a 32-year resident of Culloden.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Jane Parker Gibson; daughter, Kelly Jo Gibson Carroll and husband, Shawn, of Culloden; son, John Robert Gibson and wife, Kathy of Scott Depot, W.Va.; mother, Vessie Webb Gibson of Friendswood, Texas ; sister, Martha Ann Mills of Friendswood, Texas ; brother, Willie Joe Gibson of Village Mills, Texas ; granddaughter, Chelsea Jo Carroll of Culloden; grandsons, Michael Shawn Carroll of Culloden, John Travis Gibson of Scott Depot, Cody Michael Gibson of Scott Depot; several nieces and nephews. Special thank you from the family to Dr. James Akins, Alice Conway and Kanawha Hospice Care and a host of friends for their special care.

Graveside services were conducted Friday, April 16, 2004, in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane with military rites conducted by Bennie Padilla VFW Post 4768, Alum Creek, and Masonic Rites conducted by Putnam Masonic Lodge No. 139, A.F. & A.M., Hurricane. The Rev. Lawrence Dailey will officiate the service. Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements. Hazel G. Finley

Hazel G. Finley, 71, of Milton went peacefully on April 25, 2004, to be home with the Lord in the comfort of her home with her family by her side after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Henson Mortuary, with the Rev. Mark Finley and the Rev. Harry Moore officiating. Burial in Ball's Gap Cemetery, Milton. She was born April 9, 1933, in Chloe, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late John Finley, the late Ruby Lamb and the late Otmer Fitzwater. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Junior Fitzwater, Luther and Nellie Finley and Janice Marie Fitzwater. She was a retired nurse from the C&O Hospital in Huntington and was a member of Ball's Gap Church. She is survived by her husband, Harold Finley; her children and their spouses, Eugene and Darlene Finley, Mike Finley, Linda Finley, Lisa and Greg Summers, all of Milton; grandchildren, Brad, Todd and Kandi Finley, Sabrina and Joey Stover, Laundell Finley, Latisha Holmes, Brad Smith, Lawanna and Todd Adkins, Tyler Summers, Christina and Jason Welch, great-grandchildren, Laykin and Tanner Stover, Codie, Andrea and Dalton Finley, Makayla Welch; brothers and sisters, Charles Fitzwater of Anderson, Ind., Johnnie and Kelly Fitzwater of Harker Heights, Texas , Don Fitzwater of Fairmont, W.Va., Larry and Brenda Fitzwater of Fairmont, W.Va., Keith Fitzwater of Cleveland, Ohio, Kenneth Fitzwater of Fort Largo, Fla., Vada Sharpe of Anderson, Ind., Joann and Floyd Chapman of Anderson, Ind., and Karen Pausch of Chesterland, Ohio; uncles and aunts, James and Madge Lamb of St. Albans, W.Va., Hazel Christian of Gauley Bridge, W.Va., Lois and Howard Dye of Chloe, W.Va., and Macel and Vernon Snyder of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Faye Finley of Barboursville, W.Va., Verba Manning of Milton, W.Va.; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma M. Kessell

Thelma M. Kessell, 83, of Buffalo died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Susan Henson Badgley.

Surviving: husband, James D. “Sammy” Kessell of Buffalo, formerly of Dunbar; son, James L. Kessell of South Charleston; sisters, Elizabeth Pennington of Springfield, Virginia, Juanita Grose of Fayetteville, Ina Coleman of Hillsborough, New Jersey; brother, William D. Badgley of Dunbar.

Service was held Friday, June 18, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in Shiloah Cemetery, Red House.

Dencil W. Cain

Dencil W. Cain, 84, of Red House died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at home following a long illness.

He was a Christian and a retired operator from AVTEX Fibers, Nitro, with 34 years of service. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Dora J. Cain, two brothers and one sister.

Surviving: his wife of 61 years, Evagelene “Gertrude” Coulter Cain; daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and “Bucky” Brown of Red House; sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry W. Cain of Red House, Richard and Karen Cain of Richmond, Virginia, and Terry “Deno” Cain of Red House.

Service was held Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Wayne Hooper and Pastor Carroll Jones officiating. Burial was in Shiloah Cemetery, Red House.

K.W. Leadmon

K.W. Leadmon, 84, a lifelong resident of Hurricane, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.

He was former owner and operator of Leadmon Motors and a former member of the Putnam County School Board and the Putnam County Commission.

He worked with Tony Allen at Allen Funeral Home and with his nephew, Keith Leadmon, at Leadmon Auto Sales for 10 years. He was a current employee of Midway Ford.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Genevieve Leadmon, and brother, Gerald “Bud” Leadmon.

Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, K.W. and Lori Leadmon of Proctorville, Ohio; grandsons, Kyle Wesley and Matthew Tyler Leadmon; special nephew and wife, Keith and Anna Leadmon of Hurricane, niece, Terry Cooper of Culloden.

Service was held Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Entombment was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Richard L. Early

Richard L. “Dick” Early, 68, of Winfield died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital.

He was born July 18, 1935 in Huntington, a son of the late Charles H. and Goldie Banks Early. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith Ginger, and two brothers, John and Robert Early.

He was a retired executive vice president from Shoney's Restaurant Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving: wife, Gunna B. Early; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynn Early of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Pam Early of Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Evelyn Chapman of Flatwoods, Kentucky; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Lois Early of Ashland, Ralph and Erma Early of South Point, Charles H. “Bill” and Marcella Early of Huntington; grandchildren, Michael and Sarah Early; several nieces and nephews.

Beard Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

Fred W. Payne Jr.

Fred W. Payne Jr., 80, of Scott Depot died June 17, 2004, at his home following a long illness.

He was a retired acting director of the Federal Housing Authority with the United States government. He was a World War II First Marie Division veteran, a member of China Marines and the American Legion. He was a 26-year resident of Scott Depot.

Surviving: his wife of 57 years, Ruth McKemy Payne; daughters, Sandy Jefferson and husband, Paul, of Cross Lanes, and Peggy Martin of Hurricane; sisters, Bonnie Blackwell of Pinch and Sharon Payne of South Charleston; brother, Robert Payne of Nitro; grandchildren, Natalie Martin-Smith of Bedford, Virginia, Lisa Eggleston of Johnson City, Tennessee, Steve Martin of Hurricane, and Brian Jefferson of Red House; great-grandchildren, Kiana Carroll and Korey Eggleston.

Service was held Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Larry Hammett officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

William Hubert Venoy

William Hubert Venoy, 81, of Milton passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Forest Memorial park, Milton with the Rev. Rick Glass officiating. Hubert was born February 17, 1923, in Salt Rock, W.Va., a son of the late Lewis W. and Nancy M. Hatfield Venoy. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Venoy and Wilma Bledsoe; three brothers, Forrest “Pete” Venoy, Paul “Doodle” Venoy and Thurman Venoy; and special nephew, Lloyd Bledsoe. Hubert was a member of the American Legion Post 139, Milton, for over 25 years. He retired from Huntington Alloys after 37 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Georgia May Venoy; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Lynn Rush and husband Mike; one sister, Mildred Ray and husband Charles; two granddaughters, Shelly Rush of Duluth, Ga., and Sarah Rush of Waukegan, Ill.; sister-in-laws, Ruth Scaggs, Lillian Cabell and Ethel Venoy; one brother-in-law, Frank Cabell and wife Opal and several nieces and nephews. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

William G. Cunningham
William G. Cunningham, 84 of Elenaor died June 3, 2004, at his home.
Bill was born in Raywood, West Virginia in 1919. He was a graduate of the Navy’s Experimental Underwater Diving School and he served in the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer during World War II in Pearl Harbor. After World War II, he graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy and served as a West Virginia State Trooper in Pendleton County for five years.
After leaving the state police force, he started his own commercial diving company in Houma, Louisiana, where he operate for some 15 years. He retired from the diving business and moved to Eleanor where he has lived for the past 20 years.
Surviving: wife, Rita Jane Murphy Cunningham; sons, William W. Cunningham of Slidell, Louisiana and Larry L. Cunningham of Redondo Beach, California; sister, clara jane Shaffer of Livingston, Texas ; grandson, Matthew Cunningham of Houston, Texas .
Memorial service was held Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, with Dr. Boyd Purcell, Hospice Chaplaim, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Anna M. Luikart
Anna Mae Marshall Luikart, 62, of Robertsburg died Sunday, June 6, 2004.
Born September 18, 1941, she was the daughter of Clifford and the late Leona Jeffers Marshall. She retired from Putnam General Hospital with seven years of service.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, two grandsons, and two granddaughters.
Surviving: daughters, Joyce and John Shane of Richwood, Ohio, Linda and Stephen Smith of Marion, Ohio, Kathy and Barry Rutledge of Robertsburg, with whom she lived for the past 12 years, and Helen Annette and Gerald Lane II of Marion; sons, Clarence Albert and Barbara Luikart Jr. of Delaware, Ohio, George and Debbie Luikart and Clifford Shawn and Cindy, both of Marion; sisters, Marilee Boucher of Tiffin, Ohio and Betty Likens of Pt. Pleasant; brother, Darry Marshall of Midway; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Service was held Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Jim Boggess officiating. Burial was in Shiloah Cemetery, Red House.

Pauline Dixon
Mrs. Pauline Dixon, 91, of Scott Depot died June 7, 2004, at home.
Born June 3, 1913 in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John and Lora Shump Bateman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John H. Dixon, and her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and John D., Brown.
She was a member of Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene and she was a homemaker.
Surviving: grandsons, Mike Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, Brian Brown of Hurricane and Randy Brown of Cross Lanes.
Private burial was in Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, Ohio. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Awareness, 301 RHL Blvd, Charleston WV 25309.

Zella Marie Carpenter
Zella Marie Carpenter, 85, of Hurricane died June 9, 2004, at home.
She was born September 30, 1918 in Clay County. She was a member of Fairview Primitive Baptist Church, Culloden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Shelton Carpenter, daughters, Alice Carpenter and Savina Carpenter, and grandsons, Joseph Alphie Carpenter and Jonathan Mark Carpenter.
Surviving: son, Joseph “John” Carpenter of Hurricane, Robert “Bob” Carpenter of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Silvan “Smokey” Carpenter of St. Helen, Michigan, William “Bill” Carpenter of Flint, Michigan, and Timothy Scott Carpenter of Aguusta, Georgia; daughters, Betty Russell of Hurricane, Martha Smith of Stanwood, Michigan, Becky Ruppel of Saginaw, Michigan, and Mary Edwards of Hurricane; 29 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Service was held Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Elder Harold Johnson officiating. Burial was in Garrett’s Bend Community Cemetery.
