Woodrow W. Aliff
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Woodrow W. "Woody" Aliff, 81, formerly of Beckley, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, in Gainesville.
Born at Beckley, he was the son of the late Wilby Washington Aliff and Anna Bell Huffman Aliff.
Mr. Aliff was a 1936 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was retired from the Publix Super Market in Jacksonville, after many years of service. He was a member of the Mayfair Baptist Church and the Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Aliff; his stepmother, Lula M. Aliff; and a stepbrother, Fredrick C. Aliff.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean A. Hudgins and her husband, Bob, of Gainesville, Fla.; a son, James R. "Bob" Aliff and his wife, of Snellville, Ga.; a sister, Louise Aliff Good of Daniels; three brothers, Wilby W. Aliff Jr. of Beckley, David H. Aliff of Wayne, Mich., and Kenneth T. Aliff of Beckley; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenlawn cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla., with the Rev. William D. West officiating.

William "Junior" Garten
WATERFORD, Mich. -- William H. "Junior" Garten, 58, formerly of Harper Heights, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in a Waterford hospital.
Born March 23, 1939, at Backus, he was the son of the late James Bill and Rachel Lee Smith Garten.
Mr. Garten was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Waterford. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and fishing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Kermit.
Survivors include two brothers, Carl Garten and his wife, Shirley, of Waterford, and Billy Ray Garten of Beckley; two sisters, Dolores McKinney of Maryland and Loretta Furguson of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
Committal services and entombment will be noon Saturday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Dalmus Cox officiating.
Friends may call one hour before the services Saturday at the mausoleum.

OAK HILL -- Harry Lee Gilbert, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
There will be no visitation or services. The body was cremated.

Emma B. Huybert
Emma Betty Huybert, 77, of 106 Larew Ave., Beckley, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at her home following a short illness.
Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Kelayres, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alex Huybert Sr. and Lydia Kish Huybert Zonta.
Miss. Huybert was a graduate of Stoco High School at Lego. In August 1946 she graduated from Dr. Brown's Clinic Laboratory in Columbus, Ohio. She began her X-ray technical training in 1949 at Raleigh General Hospital and was certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in November 1952.
She began employment at the Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center in March 1953 and retired from the Radiology Service as supervisory diagnostic radiologic technologist in 1982.
Miss Huybert was a charter member and had life membership in the West Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Huybert Allen; a brother, Alex Huybert; and her stepfather, Angelo Zonta.
Survivors include four sisters, Irene Marcinko of Beckley, Ida Lydia Smothers of Lincoln Park, Mich., Elizabeth Davis of Hilliard, Ohio, and Deloris Williams of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, Franklin Mitchell of Roanoke, Va., Richard L. Williams of Hilliard, Ohio, J. Todd Davis of Hilliard, Ohio, Robert Allen of Taylor, Mich., and Ronnie, Michael, and Frank Huybert; nieces, Rose Sharon Thomas of Orlando, Fla., Kathryn Meade of Heath, Ohio, Paula Wood of North Carolina, and Janet Ray of North Carolina; and many friends.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, with the Rev. Terry Yahr officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Betty L. Jackson
PINEVILLE -- Betty L. Jackson, 66, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, in a Princeton hospital following a short illness.
Born May 31, 1931, at Wolf Pen, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Martha England Workman.
Mrs. Jackson was retired from the Wyoming County Board of Education where she was employed as a cook and later as head cook at Pineville Junior High School.
She was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and enjoyed flower gardening and yard sales.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Jackson, on Oct. 27, 1982; a grandson, Brandon Beckelheimer; and two sisters, Iris and Ruth.
Survivors include two sons, Steven D. Jackson of Roanoke, Va., and Mike Jackson and his wife, Judy, of Princeton; five daughters, Peggy Epling and her husband, Don, of Pineville, Patricia Wiles of Beckley, Sheila Toler and her husband, Jeffrey, of Brenton, Debra K. Beckelheimer of Lynchburg, Va., and Rhonda McKinney and her husband, Brian, of Normal, Ill.; and ten grandchildren, Steven Jackson and his wife, Christa, of Huntington, Erika Jackson of Princeton, Don Epling and his wife, Teresa, of Lexington, N.C., Anthony R. Epling of Greensboro, N.C., Donald R. Davis Jr. of Beckley, Christopher Wiles of Beckley, Courtney and Jillian Beckelheimer of Lynchburg, Va., Amanda Jackson of Indian Creek, and Clay L. WRISTON -- Jessie A. Klosski, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, in an Oak Hill hospital following a long illness.
Born March 11, 1908, at Wriston, she was the daughter of the late L.C. and Ida Arthur Phillips.
Mrs. Klosski was a homemaker and a member of the Loop Baptist Church, Wriston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley M. Klosski; and five children.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Harvey Varner of Wriston and Chreda Smith of Oak Hill; six sons, Robert Harvey of Eskdale, William R. Bellew of Lake Mary, Fla., Herbert L. Bellew of Fayetteville, Cletis L. Bellew of Barberton, Ohio, Virgil M. Klosski of Lexington, N.C., and Daniel Klosski of Barberton, Ohio; a sister, Blanche Light of Wriston; a brother, Chandler Phillips of Page; 36 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren.

Lena Lee Lilly
Lena Lee Lilly, 78, of Beckley, died 10:12 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born Sept. 28, 1919, at Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Marcella and Orlando Shavitodi Pollastrini.
Mrs. Lilly was a graduate of Montgomery High School and attended Beckley College. She was a medical technician and former assistant to Alan Susman. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, a member of Black Knight Country Club and an avid golfer at Black Knight.
She was an active member of the Raleigh County Medical Auxiliary and had been a resident of Beckley for the past 45 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frederick Vivan Lilly, in February 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Lilly II of Oakton, Va., and Eric Lilly of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Sanda Lee Fitzmaurice of Stamford, Conn.; two sisters, Esther Hendricks of Montgomery and Frances Rappold of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Gildo Pallastrini of Montgomery; five grandchildren, Frederick V. Lilly III, Tricia Lilly, Preston B. Lilly, E. Van Lilly and Scott Fitzmaurice.
Services will be noon Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum B.

Bertha M. McBride
Bertha M. McBride, 81, of Shady Spring, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at her home following a long illness.
Born Jan. 16, 1916, at Jonben, she was the daughter of the late Azel and Dora A. Cooper Greene.
Mrs. McBride was a sales clerk for Ammar Brothers Department Store with 18 years of service. She was a member of the Flat Top Missionary Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Drewry O. McBride; a son, Thomas McBride; two sisters, Nellie Griffith and Virginia Greene; and three brothers, J. Carson, Earl and Homer Greene.
Survivors include a son, James McBride and his wife, Donna, of Prosperity; three daughters, Twila Jones and her husband, Charles, of Hampstead, N.C., Betty Meadows and her husband, Marvin, of Cool Ridge and Linda Williams and her husband, W. Cline, of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Ethel Fitzwater and her husband, Eli, of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Paris Greene and his wife, Glenna, of Ghent, John Greene and his wife, Jan, of Mabscott and Joseph Howard Greene and his wife, Ardis, of Beckley; three sisters-in-law, Mabel Greene of Cool Ridge, Ruth Greene of Beckley and Evelyn Atkins of Ohio; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
