MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lewis C. Waters, 85, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Intergrated Health Services, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Feb. 2, 1913, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John William and Laura Lookingbill Waters.
He was a retired minister from Living Waters Ministry in Greensboro, N.C.
He was a member of Calvary Chapel Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Barron Waters; a daughter, Barbara A. Bittinger of Martinsburg; and a grandson.
He was the last of his immediate family, preceded in death by three sisters.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Marcus Caton will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sylvia J. Rinker
PURGITTSVILLE, W.Va. - Sylvia Jean Rinker, 60, of Purgittsville, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at her home.
Born June 9, 1938, in Shanks, W.Va., she was the daughter of Dona Everett Saville of Romney, W.Va., and the late Leonard C. Saville.
She was employed by Shanholtz Orchards, Romney.
She was a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Purgittsville.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ivan L. Rinker; one daughter, Nancy J. Russell of Hagerstown; one son, Ralph L. Rinker of Purgittsville; five sisters, Lola Grapes of Shanks, Alma McDonald of Gore, Va., Helen Helman of Augusta, W.Va., Susie Kidner and Judy Iser, both of Romney; three brothers, George "Sambo" Saville of Romney, John Saville of Tulsa, Okla., and Russell "Joe" Saville of Three Churches, W.Va.; four stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 10 a.m. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta. The Rev. Glenn Hamric will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - E. Virginia Byers, 80, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at her home.
Born Feb. 10, 1918, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest S. and Nannie Miller Myers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Byers Sr.
She was a homemaker.
She was a 50-year member of Greensburg United Methodist Church.
She was a member of United Methodist Women and AARP. She was a supporter of major charities.
She is survived by four daughters, Carol Frye Moats of Kearneysville, W.Va., Margaret J. Candy of Martinsburg, Sylvia J. Shade of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Nan V. Roth of Newport News, Va.; one son, Kenneth E. Byers Jr. of Martinsburg; two sisters, Marguerite Fritts and Louise Siler, both of Martinsburg; 19 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ernest C. Byers; one brother, George Myers; and one grandson.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Rosedale cemetery Road, Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Eugenie A. Marx
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Eugenie Avanda Marie Marx, 91, of Berkeley Springs and formerly of Mountain Home, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born Nov. 30, 1906, in Maywood, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Avanda Fossier Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Clifford Gustavus Marx, in 1997.
A native of Maywood, Ill., she was a graduate of Chicago Academy of Fine Arts; and attended Chicago Art Institute in the late 1920s.
She worked as a fashion design illustrator for the Chicago Tribune. Her lifelong career as an artist began with study under such noted artists as Greco and his contemporaries, working primarily in oils and watercolor.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by a daughter, Valerie A. Stutts of Berkeley Springs; two grandchildren, Michael V. Stutts of Hagerstown and Major Anthony L. Stutts, USAF, stationed at Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany; and two great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will officiate. Private burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens, Oakbrook, Ill.
Charlene M. Shipe
BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Charlene Mae Shipe, 52, of 1500 Spring Street, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 17, 1945, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Owen Crum and Virginia "Peggy" Writt Conners.
She was a member of Gospel Chapel Assembly of God Church, Harpers Ferry.
She is survived by her husband, Fred W. Shipe Sr.; a son, Freddie Shipe Jr. at home; a nephew, whom she raised, Bobby Crum of Halltown, W.Va.; four sisters, Debbie Darr of Charles Town, W.Va., Shelia Holmes and Rita Crum, both of Harpers Ferry and Donna Hahn of Brunswick, Md.; and two brothers, Steve Crum and Donnie Wiles, both of Harpers Ferry.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gospel Chapel Assembly of God Church at Harpers Ferry. The Rev. James R. Smith will officiate.

William Watso
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William Watso, 81, of Martinsburg and formerly of Riverdale Heights, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Bethesda, Md.
Born Jan. 1, 1917, in Dickson City, Pa., he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary Glozeroski Watso Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olinda Dietz Watso, in 1992.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he received four battle stars and a unit citation.
He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1976.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arden, W.Va.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a volunteer firefighter with Bedington Fire Department and a member of its board of directors; a member of Emergency Services of Berkeley County; formerly a member and volunteer with Marshall of Riverdale Heights Fire Department; and a public information officer.
He received the Congressional Award in 1995 for his contribution to the fire service community.
He is survived by two daughters, Melody S. Rosario of Riverdale, Md., and Carol D. Kantner of Glenn Dale, Md.; and two sisters, Theresa Shuta of Olyphant, Pa., and Julia Getz of Scranton, Pa.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Turko and Mary Battle; and five brothers, George, Michael, John, Stephen and Peter Watso.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arden. The Rev. John D. Yost will officiate, with the Rev. Douglas Cox assisting. Private burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale Road, Martinsburg; and Monday one hour prior to services at the church.
Ula E. Stoner
HURRICANE, W.Va. - Ula E. Bonnett Stoner, 78, of Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hurricane, and formerly of 751 Broad St., Chambersburg, Pa., died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at Putnam General Hospital in Hurricane.
Born May 9, 1920, in Putnam County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Null Bonnett.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Earl Mills will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln cemetery in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ola K. Lamothe, 87, formerly of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at Green Acres Adams County Nursing Home, Gettysburg, Pa.
Born July 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Belle Kimes Rutherford.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl L. Sharff; and by her second husband, Lewis G. Lamothe.
She is survived by a nephew, James W. McKeever of Warfordsburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Elma Albright, Flora Weller and Eva Ware; and two brothers, Andrew Rutherford and Forrest Rutherford.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale cemetery in Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate.
Mary B. Butler
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Mary Brown Summers Butler, 89, of Charles Town, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at Integrated Health Services of West Virginia.
Born April 3, 1909, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Brown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Butler.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by a son, Lloyd Brown Butler of Charles Town; a sister, Malcoma Stanton of Hagerstown; and a grandchild, Landon Ray Butler.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Brown Clark.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses in Ranson, W.Va. Brother Floyd Manuel will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.
