GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Richard Litwin, 67, of Valley High Timber Farms and formerly of Glen Burnie, Md., died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at his home.
Born Nov. 7, 1930, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Peter F. and Virginia Irene Gover Litwin Jr.
He had worked as a groundskeeper at Bottoms Up in Glen Burnie.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and a former member of Holy Crucifixion Catholic Church in Glen Burnie.
He is survived by his caretakers and companions of 22 years, John L. Prifogle Sr. and Sharon Bishop Prifogle of Great Cacapon; and a niece, Nancy Martin of Baltimore.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy V. Bley.
Funeral liturgy will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 116 S. Washington St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.

Agnes D. Pumphrey
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Agnes D. Pumphrey, 80, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at Care Haven of Berkeley, Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 20, 1918, in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anna Manley Donnelly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pumphrey.
She was a retired secretary for the U.S. government.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, W.Va.
She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Bridgland and Patricia Mehr, both of Pittston, Pa.; one brother, Joseph Donnelly of California; nieces and nephews.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elizabeth Ann Valdes, infant daughter of Damien Troy and Christie Flanagan Valdes of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by grandparents, William R. and Catherine Flanagan of Martinsburg and Luis A. Valdes of Timonium, Md.; and great-grandparents, Beverly and Dennis Hansbrough of Lorton, Va., and Carmen Vasquez of Queens, N.Y.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John Christian Styer, 4, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at his home.
Born April 4, 1994, in Hagerstown, he was the son of John "Jay" Charles and Sabrina Carbaugh Styer of Martinsburg.
He enjoyed baseball with his dad, golf, NASCAR, Looney Tunes and monster trucks.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Katelyn M. Styer, at home; maternal grandparents, Larry and Suzanne Baker of Falling Waters, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, John E. and Georgia Styer of Martinsburg; great-grandmothers, Florence Gorman of Tallahassee, Fla., and Marilyn Baker of Wardensville, W.Va.; great-great-grandmother, Mildred Harvey of Rome, Ga.; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Charles Gorman.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark D. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Waters Presbyterian cemetery, Spring Mills, W.Va.

Hazel L. Grabill
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hazel L. Grabill, 91, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at Care Haven of Berkeley, Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 22, 1906, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late George Calvin and Annie Eversole Boltz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Grabill.
She was a member of Moler Avenue Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by two sisters, DeVonna Hess of Ranson, W.Va., and Edith Fleenor of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a foster daughter, Mildred Attick; one sister, Letha Boltz; and two brothers, George F. Boltz and James Howard Boltz.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Eddie H. Edmonds will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.

Wayne S. Smith
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Wayne Stanley Smith, 64, of Riverview Park, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Mad River, Calif.
Born Jan. 7, 1934, in Hollywood, Calif., he was the son of Audrey K. King Laag of Oregon and the late Winston Smith.
He was a graduate of Weaverville (Calif.) High School.
He retired in 1985 after 22 years with the Washington, D.C. police department.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town, W.Va.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carolyn J. Daughenbaugh Smith; four daughters, Kim Tucci of Olney, Md., Terri Harris of Houston, Debra Vyka of Yuba City, Calif., and Melody Anderson of Colorado; two stepdaughters, Debbie Hayes of Annapolis and Linda Walker of Ownings, Md.; one stepson, James Klopfer of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Janice Dillon of Oregon; twin brother, Winston Smith of Mad River; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the service.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Kenneth J. May, 68, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at his home.
Born July 4, 1930, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John H. and Bessie Williams May.
He retired from Badger Powhatan of Ranson, W.Va.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
He was a former member of the Police Reserves, Knights of Pythias, AARP, Charles Town (W.Va.) Lodge 948 and Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Thelma Potter May; one daughter, Cynthia Rogers of Martinsburg; three sons, Clarence May of Inwood, W.Va., Ronald May of Cavetown and Kurt May of Martinsburg; four sisters, Ruth Cochran and Betsy Palmer, both of Baltimore, Hilda Rutherford of Berryville, Va., and Thelma Smallwood of Inwood; one brother, John May Sr. of Inwood; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Allen Lemuel May; two sisters, Evelyn Foltz and Sylvia Catlett; and four brothers, Charles May, Glen May, Marshall May and Lemuel May.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. R. Shawn Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Blair H. Sponaugle
INWOOD, W.Va. - Blair H. Sponaugle, 75, of Inwood, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Dec. 6, 1923, in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert F. and Nola Harper Sponaugle.
He retired from Columbia Gas Co., where he worked in telecommunications.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He was a member of First Methodist Church in Herndon, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Doris J. Sponaugle; one son, Burl H. Sponaugle of Jefferson County, W.Va.; one sister, Theresa K. Sponaugle of Herndon; one brother, Robert Sponaugle of Nina, Nev.; and one granddaughter, Christina Morin, whom he raised.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Sponaugle.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Rosedale cemetery Road, Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
