MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lillian L. Castle, 90, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born July 9, 1907, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George A. and Rebecca Hurd Chambers.
She was a nurse at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C., before her retirement.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Dorothy McCarroll of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Marie Forsythe of Winchester, Va.; one brother, Donald P. Chambers of Marina, Calif.; and a niece.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Elsie C. Flick, Kathleen M. Butler, Isabel Chambers and Nora Walters; four brothers, Marion D. Chambers, Julian V. Chambers, Clayton Chambers and Allen R. Chambers Sr.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. William E. Merki will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Earl W. Shelly
INWOOD, W.Va. - Earl Wilson Shelly, 80, of Inwood, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 29, 1917, in Pottsdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Wilson R. and Carrie Hunter Shelly.
He was a retired hospital administrator with the U.S. government at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C., serving for 42 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving before and during World War II.
He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 10756 at St. Leo.
He was a member of AARP, the American Legion and Mended Hearts Association.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Crosby Shelly; a daughter, Patricia A. Jencks of Alexandria, Va.; three sons, Dr. Richard W. Shelly of Roanoke, Va., James M. Shelly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Michael S. Shelly of Petersburg, Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Shelly Birkitt; and a brother, Herbert Shelly.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church in Inwood with the Rev. Brian Shoda as celebrant. Burial and prayers will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the residence today from 7 to 9 p.m.

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Charles Bernard "Todd" Montgomery, 65, of Great Cacapon, and formerly of Baltimore, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Dec. 9, 1932, in Ashland, Ky., he was the son of the late Walter and Eula Caskey Montgomery.
He worked as a welder with the City of Baltimore Parks Department. After retiring in 1982, he and his wife bought Shambaugh's Grocery and moved to Great Cacapon. At the time of his death he and his wife were operating the business as Doris' Deli.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Risinger-Stotler VFW Post 4019 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, all of Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nellie Starr King Montgomery; five daughters, Starrlene Morillo of New York, Carolynn Jeanne Hoffer of Hagerstown, Charrlene Lopez of Glen Burnie, Md., and Nellie Osborne and Doris Miller, both of Great Cacapon; two sisters, Roberta Thomas and Barbara Garner, both of Surf City, N.C.; a brother, John Montgomery of Surf City; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Ziranski; and a brother, Donald Montgomery.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Nebo cemetery, Great Cacapon. Pastor Jeff Dissmore will officiate. Military graveside honors will be provided by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Colleen L. Davis, 72, of Charles Town, and formerly of Virginia Beach, Va., died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born June 8, 1925, in Rock Island, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Gertrude M. Davis Wells.
She was a retired bookkeeper with Sleepwell Mattress and Box Spring Co. in Norfolk, Va.
She was a member of Tri State Baptist Church, Charles Town.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Joseph R. Davis; a son, James C. Ogle of Minneapolis; a stepson, Joseph R. Davis Jr. of Martinsburg; a stepdaughter, Robyn Estelle Anderson of Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Davis; and a brother, Buddy Wells.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. Ray Love will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Richard H. Davis Jr., 62, of Kearneysville, died Monday, April 27, 1998, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Born Aug. 20, 1935, in Beaumont, Texas, he was the son of Carrie Davis and the late Richard H. Davis Sr.
He was past superintendent of St. Mark's United Methodist Church School in New York.
He was a longtime manager of Royal Farms Inc. in Brooklyn.
He was scoutmaster of Troop 318 and a member of P.M. Utopia Lodge 27; P.W.P. Orpah Chapter 29; P.G.M. of M.W. Hiram Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M., and first vice president general of General Grand Masonic Congress.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Brooks Davis; a daughter, Yvette Davis; two sons, Richard H. Davis IV and Ronald Davis; a sister, Mary Hillman; and three granddaughters.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Johnsontown cemetery in Kearneysville. Elder Marva Harris will officiate.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Noah W. Tasker, 67, of Falling Waters, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 9, 1930, in Oakland, Md., he was the son of the late Noah S. and Cora Baker Tasker.
He was a member of American Legion in Williamsport.
He is survived by a daughter, Janet R. Carbaugh of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Richard Tasker and Charlie Tasker, both of Reedsville, W.Va.; two sisters, Charlotte Chepaitis of Baltimore and Angela Manning of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Denver Tasker, Clifton Tasker, Walter Tasker, Edward Tasker and Alvin Tasker.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem cemetery in Kingwood, W.Va.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Norman M. Smith, 73, of Hedgesville, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Oley Dean and Martha Riggs Smith.
He was a United Methodist.
He is survived by six sisters, Blanch A. Landis of Fort Ashby, W.Va., Daisy V. Handley and Emma M. Maguire, both of Baltimore, Dorothy M. Murphy of Hedgesville, Beulah J. Hartig of Glen Burnie, Md., and Nancy A. Cookus of Marlowe, W.Va.; a brother, Willard E. Smith of Hedgesville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Smith; and three brothers, Arthur Smith, Herbert W. Smith and Herman H. Smith.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Louise Bowen, evangelist, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Church cemetery in Jones Spring, W.Va.

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. - Shawn Eric Pentoney, 35, of Ooltewah, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Saturday, May 2, 1998, in Bledsoe County, Tenn.
Born Aug. 31, 1962, in Fairfax, Va., he was the son of Edgar E. and Nancy Bosserman Pentoney of Berkeley Springs.
He was a 1980 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and a graduate of West Virginia University.
He was CEO of Collegedale Casework LLC in Tennessee.
He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church, Chattanooga, Tenn.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jodi Possinger Pentoney of Ooltewah; two daughters, Sheree Pentoney and Tara Pentoney, both at home; and a son, Zachary Pentoney, at home.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Page Pentoney, in 1978.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Berkeley Baptist Church, Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John O. Gilbert will officiate. Private burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Lillian Elizabeth Washington, 81, of Shepherdstown, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at her home.
Born April 12, 1917, in Marshall, Va., she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel H. and Lena Green Black.
She had retired as a dietitian at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, Shepherdstown, and Willing Workers Club of the church.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Newtown W. Washington; a sister, Dorothy Stevenson of Shepherdstown; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Evelyn Black and Otis Black.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Baptist Church, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Joe D. Liles will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today after 3 p.m. at St. John's Baptist Church. Family and friends may call at the house this evening and are invited to a dinner at the church hall following graveside services at the cemetery Wednesday.
