INWOOD, W.Va. - Preston A. "Peck" Butts, 78, of Inwood, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Sept. 22, 1919, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Vernon M. and Lena May Thornton Butts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie Delong Butts.
He was a 1937 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired from Martin Marietta.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose; Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara L. Jensen of Grand Forks, N.D.; one son, James V. Butts of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Whitacre and Dorothy Rudy; and one brother, Tressler Butts.
Services will be Thursday at 2:45 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Anthony J. Mickelinc
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anthony James Mickelinc, 26, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 20, 1972, in Washington County, he was the son of Gary P. Mickelinc Sr. of Martinsburg and Suzanne Harrington Lee of Martinsburg.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Angel E. Mickelinc of Winchester, Va.; one brother, Gary P. Mickelinc Jr. of Florida; stepmother, Gloria Bell of Martinsburg; stepfather, Larry Lee of Martinsburg; two stepsisters, Nichol Lee and Jennifer Bell, both of Martinsburg; two stepbrothers, Vincent Lee of Charleston, W.Va., and Anthony Bell of Martinsburg; aunts, uncles and cousins; and a close friend, Don Schaller of Pennsylvania.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Margaret Raven will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Shelva J. Head
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Shelva Jean Herndon Head, 41, and her husband of three years, Daniel Richard Head, 44, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 20, 1956, in Loudoun County, Va., she was the daughter of George W. Herndon of Leesburg, Va., and the late Vida Biggs Herndon.
She graduated from Loudoun County High School.
In addition to her father, she is survived by three children, Brian Head, Michelle Pentz and George Randall Herndon of Hedgesville; a stepson, Richard Wilt of Oakland, Md.; and two brothers, Larry Herndon and Harold Herndon of Leesburg.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, S.E., Leesburg. The Rev. Ed Furr will officiate. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Leesburg.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Daniel R. Head
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Daniel Richard Head, 44, and his wife of three years, Shelva Jean Herndon Head, 41, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 17, 1953, he was the son of Elva Jean Kelly, of Oakland, Md., and the late James Richard Head.
He graduated from high school in Oakland.
He was employed by B&B Hauling, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Richard Wilt of Oakland and Brian Head of Hedgesville; stepdaughter, Michelle Pentz of Hedgesville; stepson, George Randall Herndon of Hedgesville; and a brother, Mike Head of Hedgesville.

Gladys V. Plotner
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Gladys Virginia Plotner, 89, of Hedgesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 26, 1908, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Maude Anna Viands Smallwood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos C. Plotner.
She was a member of Providence Church, Hedgesville.
She is survived by four grandchildren, two of whom she raised; David W. Plotner of Martinsburg, and Irvin L. Birley of Hedgesville and Tammy Lowery and Robert Rhodes, both of Ohio; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter Smallwood of New Jersey and Marvin Smallwood of Charles Town.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Louise Plotner Birley.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Dan Dugan will officiate. Burial will be in Providence cemetery, west of Hedgesville.

Nelson D. Gosnell
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Nelson D. Gosnell, 72, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 3, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Sinclair and Irene Krumholtz Gosnell.
A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, he served during World War II.
He retired as owner and operator of Wanel Co. Inc. He was a security guard at Charles Town Races.
He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; and Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Heaton Gosnell, at home; one son, Nelson Robin Gosnell of Ocoee, Fla.; one daughter, Scherrie Stakes of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Paul C. Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

George W. Gageby
ENGLE, W.Va. - George Washington Gageby, 87, of Fisher Hill Farm, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the home of his daughter.
Born Nov. 8, 1910, in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Edward and Nellie Brown Gageby.
He worked for 18 years at Kidwiler's Butcher Shop, Bakerton, W.Va. He previously owned and operated Fisher Hill Farm, Engle. In the 1940s and 1950s he had a dairy cream route in Jefferson County, W.Va.
He was an active member of Uvilla United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees and administrative board and taught Sunday school.
He served on the advisory board for Southern States.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mae Ambrose Gageby, whom he married Nov. 25, 1939; one daughter, Dorrene G. Hale of Engle; one son, Edward Glenn Gageby of Dunkirk, Md.; two brothers, David A. Gageby and Harry B. Gageby, both of Engle; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary E. Engle, Nellie Virginia Bush and Maggie Gageby; and four brothers, Charles W. Gageby, Howard M. Gageby, Samuel H. Gageby and James E. Gageby.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Uvilla United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donna Merritt will officiate. Burial will be in Uvilla United Methodist Church cemetery.

Albert V. Kesecker
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Rev. Albert Vernon "A.V." Kesecker, 86, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at his home.
Born Jan. 10, 1912, in Sleepy Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Susan "Molly" McJilton Kesecker.
He attended Morgan County schools, Bob Jones University and Moody Institute.
He was a retired Nazarene minister; and retired from B&O Railroad.
He was ordained into the Nazarene Church in 1948. He founded and built the Nazarene Church in Hancock and built the Nazarene Church in Martinsburg. He also was instrumental in starting the Nazarene Church in Wiley Ford, W.Va.
He was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene, Hancock.
He attended Grace Wesleyan Church and St. Luke's United Methodist Church, both in Martinsburg, and taught Sunday school classes at St. Luke's. He served as supply pastor for many churches in the area and at times was active as an evangelist. After his retirement, he was interim pastor at the Church of the Nazarene, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, Local 710, where he served as president, secretary, treasurer; a member of B&O Retiree Breakfast Group; and Berkeley County Clergy Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Lea Risinger Kesecker at home, whom he married March 29, 1929; two daughters, Karen E. Twigg of Martinsburg and Maridel K. Albright of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Litton of Baltimore; one brother, J.W. "Jake" Kesecker of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sons, A.V. Kesecker Jr., George Robert Kesecker and Daniel Paul Kesecker; one sister, Ruth Ewing; and three brothers, Thurmond Kesecker, Raymond Kesecker and Ralph Kesecker.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, Martinsburg. The Rev. Kenneth Reed, the Rev. J. William Kesecker and the Rev. Kent Raymond Kesecker, his nephews; and the Rev. Edward T. Reckner will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Visitation also will be Sunday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.

John S. Pappas
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - John Samuel Pappas, 77, of Hedgesville, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 17, 1920, he was the son of the late Samuel and Helen Doukas Pappas.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II with the 975th Field Artillery.
He was formerly employed by Massey Ford of Hagerstown.
He was a member of American Legion Post 14, Martinsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Blevins Pappas, at home; three sons, John Sherman Pappas of Hedgesville, Michael Clark Pappas of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Christopher Thomas Pappas of Williamsport; four sisters, Viola Sperti and Cleo Xanthos, both of Baltimore, Ethel Pappas and Rita Jones, both of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one brother, Nick Pappas of Baltimore; three grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Pappas and James Pappas.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Central Chapel cemetery in Ganotown, W.Va. The Rev. William Crowe will officiate. Military services will be conducted by Berkeley Post 14, American Legion, and Newton D. Baker, Post 896, VFW.
