MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Paul G. Lamp, 72, of Nadenbousch Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at City Hospital.
Born April 23, 1925, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late Ray W. and Mary K. Stilwell Lamp.
He was a 1943 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He owned and operated Paul G. Lamp Paint Contracting from 1973 to 1981.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and with the U.S. Air Force for 17 years, a total of 20 years of active duty. He also served for 10 years with the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of Inwood; and a member of AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Jordan Miller Lamp; one daughter, Cynthia Wilson of Martinsburg; one stepdaughter, Barbara Ann Miller of Martinsburg; one sister, Jean Fitzgerald of Kensington, Md.; one brother, Calvin R. Lamp of Martinsburg; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray W. Lamp Jr.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Christopher D. Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ella M. Cave
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Ella Mae Cave, 80, of Charles Town, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at her home.
Born July 18, 1917, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Hattie Mae Chapman Hill.
She attended Charles Town High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, where she was a member of Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class and Altar Guild.
She was a former member of Rippon Farm Women's Club, Rippon, W.Va.
She is survived by her husband, Russell L. Cave, whom she married Dec. 28, 1941; one daughter, Holly S. Jett of Ravenswood, W.Va.; one son, Russell L. "Russ" Cave Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Elizabeth Myers of Charles Town; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Dawson; and two brothers, Charles Hill and Horace Hill.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town. The Rev. Joseph Fraley will officiate.
There will be no visitation.

L. James Baird
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Retired U.S. Navy Capt. L. James Baird, 86, formerly of Charles Town, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 14, 1911, in DeWitt, Iowa, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Kathryn Haring Baird.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Somers.
He was a 1929 graduate of DeWitt High School. He also was a 1935 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, where he lettered in football. He was a graduate of Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and obtained his master's degree in education at Indiana University.
He served on USS Helena CL50 during the attack on Pearl Harbor and when the ship was sunk in Kula Gulf, July 6, 1943. He earned 11 battle stars in World War II, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for his service in the Pacific. He had command of the USS Goodrich DDR831, ComDesDiv. 182/192, USS Naval Ammunition Depot in Crane, Ind.
Upon retiring from the Navy, he taught math and naval science at North Chicago, Ill., high school until retirement in 1976.
In 1978, he moved to Charles Town.
He was an active member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of the American Legion, Adam Stephen Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Charles Town Evening Kiwanis Club and 40 and 8 Voiture No. 1356, Charles Town.
He is survived by his wife, Kyle Foley Baird, whom he married on Jan. 10, 1954; one daughter, Terry Baird Jones of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, James F. Baird of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Church, East Washington Street, Charles Town. Burial will be in DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
William Croson Sr.
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - William "Bill" Croson Sr., 56, of Kearneysville, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Dec. 16, 1940, in Loudoun County, Va., he was the son of the late Walter J. and Lilly Mae Barb Croson.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Elaine Croson; two daughters, Brenda Lee Croson of Kearneysville, and Robin Lynn Croson of Woodbridge, Va.; three sons, Joseph Lewis Croson of Woodbridge, William Larry Croson Jr. of Lexus, Md., and Christopher Michael Croson of Kearneysville; two sisters, Helen Suddueth of Manassas, Va., and Doris Reynolds of Richmond, Va.; four brothers, Bobby Croson of Stafford, Va., Jack Croson of Virginia Beach, Va., Gene Croson of Warrenton, Va., and Ray Croson of Herndon, Va.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny Croson and Lester Croson.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Joseph Burwell will officiate. Burial will be in Hillsboro cemetery in Hillsboro, Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Naomi K. Reavis
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Naomi Kathleen "Kitty" Reavis, 74, of Hidden River, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Sept. 19, 1923, in Oak Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Ruth Pegram Morton.
Her husband of 35 years, William "Bill" Ezra Reavis, also died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997.
She was formerly employed at Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
She was of the Brethren faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Rene Sorrell of Hico, W.Va.; two sons, Douglas L. Craigo of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Charles Craigo of Kearneysville; one stepson, Richard Reavis of California; one sister, Delorise Hughes of Oak Hill, W.Va.; one brother, Haven Stevens of Florida; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Rita Alfano; one grandson; and several sisters and brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.

William E. Reavis
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - William Ezra "Bill" Reavis, 93, of Hidden River, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at his home.
Born July 6, 1904, in Winston-Salem, N.C., he was the son of the late Marion E. and Lillie Chamberlain Reavis.
His wife of 35 years, Naomi Kathleen "Kitty" Reavis, also died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997.
He graduated from barber school in Indiana.
He was a barber for many years, and was employed at Berkeley Plaza Barbershop in Martinsburg, and previously in the Washington, D.C., area.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Reavis of California, and Douglas L. Craigo of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Rene Sorrell of Hico, W.Va.; one stepson, Charles Craigo of Kearneysville; one sister, Lacie Reavis Hoots of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Rita Alfano; one stepgrandson; and several sisters and brothers.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Mary Locher Jex, 98, of Shepherdstown, died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at the home of her niece, Alma Bray, in Lovettsville, Va.
Born Aug. 20, 1899, in Molers Cross Roads, Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William L. and Martha Cloud Reinhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Raleigh Jex, in 1971.
She was retired from C&P Telephone Co. in Washington, D.C., after 45 years of service.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was a member of C&P Telephone Pioneers; Jefferson County Historical Society; and Shepherdstown Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She is survived by four nieces, Anna Turner, Sidney Silbert, Virginia L. Whitacre and Alma Bray; and three nephews, Woodrow VanMetre, Edward VanMetre and Baker Miller.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Laura L. VanMetre, Annie VanMetre, Mable Miller, Nettie Miller and Mellie Reinhart; and two brothers, John Reinhart and William L. Reinhart.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. William Long will officiate. Burial will be private.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles F. Barber, 86, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 4, 1911, in Sandy Hook, he was the son of the late William H. and Ruth Ritter Barber.
He had worked for Fairchild Aircraft Co., city of Martinsburg and retired from Berkeley County Board of Education.
He was a member of Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church.
He is survived by his former wife, Mary Katherine Castle, at home; one son, Charles W. Barber of Martinsburg; one sister, Anna May Cotton of Baltimore; one brother, William Barber of Funkstown; one granddaughter; one grandson; and two great-grandsons.
Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Pastor Tom Tennis and Pastor Mike Bagent will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.
There will be no visitation.
Nelson W. Penwell
RANSON, W.Va. - Nelson Woodrow Penwell, 68, of Ranson, died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1928, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry and Jessie Elizabeth Dailey Penwell.
He was formerly employed with William A. Hazel Construction.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Elizabeth Penwell; one daughter, Bonnie Hawkins of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; one son, Anthony Penwell of Harpers Ferry; three sisters, LouDel Waldron and Janie Souers, both of Ranson, and Judy Barnette of Leesburg, Va.; two brothers, Robert Penwell and Larry Penwell, both of Harpers Ferry; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a friend, of 19 years, Maryann Carlisle of Ranson.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Hardy, Madeline Hardy and Velma Farmer; and four brothers, Harold Penwell, Thomas Penwell, Ronald Penwell and Elmer Penwell.
