Grace Marie Kenney, 66, of Milton entered into rest Friday, March 5, 2004 at Cabell Huntington Medical Center. A Memorial service was conducted Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. She was born November 8, 1937, in Milton, a daughter of the late Walter Carl and Amy May Janey Carter. She is also preceded in death by two grandsons; one sister, Anna Ruth Leonard; eight brothers, John P. Carter, Charles E. Carter, Hugh S. Carter, Braddus L. Carter, Ford C. Carter, James R. Carter, Walter C. Carter and Tennis H. Carter. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 139, Milton. She is survived by her loving husband, Dave Kenney; three daughters and son-in-law, Janet Lynn Fulton (Mike), Linda Marie Robertson (Will) and Billie Susan Thornquest (David); one son, Michael Clay Sovine; five sisters, Dulcie F. Morris, Vivian W. Flowers, Phyllis C. Chavez, Gloria J. Woodds and Betty L. Hendricks; four brothers, Ross F. Carter, Bruce T. Carter, Paul D. Carter and Michael Carter; seven granddaughters, four grandsons and 12 great-grandchildren.

Alpha Jane Hamilton Childers

Alpha Jane Hamilton Childers, 81, of Salt Rock W.Va, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 3, 2004. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Minister David Templeton. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born December 11, 1922, in Pike County, Ky., a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Parthena Johnson Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Atchley Childers; three brothers, Edmund, Frank and Estil Hamilton; two sisters, Irene Wotring and Kansas Owens-Griner. She was a faithful member of Merritt's Creek Church of Christ. Together with her husband Atchley, she owned and operated Childers' General Store in Salt Rock for many years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Don Ross; and her beloved grandsons, Craig and Chris (Rusty) Ross, at home; one brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Anna Mary Hamilton, of Archer, Fla.; one sister, Wyoma Newsome of Milton, W Va.; sister-in-law, Myrtle Hamilton of Robinson Creek. Ky. Additional survivors include her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Wilburn Triplett Jr.; sister-in-law, Betty Childers of Salt Rock; brother-in-law, James Jones of Denver, Colo. The family would like to extend their thanks, appreciation, and love to her two caregivers, Judy Johnson and Mandi Johnson and to Hospice of Huntington. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Cupp

Mary Cupp, 78, of McKinney, Texas , formerly of Milton, passed away Sunday, February 29, 2004, in Homestead Nursing Home, McKinney, Texas . Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Chuck Elkins and the Rev. Harry Moore officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born September 15, 1925, in Mingo County, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Antonia Morock. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Cupp; three brothers, Steve Morock, Edward Morock and Frank Morock; two sisters, Sophia Jobo and Francis Koeffer. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church for 30 plus years, where she served as church secretary. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Cowley of McKinney, Texas ; grandchildren, Justin, Dale, Steven, Melissa and Misty Marksberry; special niece, Mary Sheppard and her husband, Bill; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille Marshall

Lucille Marshall, 74, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004. She was born February 28, 1930, in Wayne, W.Va. a daughter of the late Andy and Minnie Rowe. She is survived by her husband, Billy Marshall; two daughters Janie Workman of Huntington and Debbie Nutter of Culloden; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. There was no visitation or funeral service. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

James “Jim” A. LoFiego

James “Jim” A. LoFiego, 52, of Barboursville, WV, passed away Sunday, February 29, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Barboursville Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. He was born May 10, 1951, in Fairmont, a son of the late Antonio `Tony” Salvatore LoFiego and Lena Elia LoFiego. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald J. LoFiego and one uncle, Louie Elia. He graduated from Fairmont State College. He was previously employed in management at various Hills Department stores including Fairmont and Huntington for 23 years. He was more recently employed at Fazoli's Restaurant in Barboursville. He was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church serving as a deacon finance committee and usher. He was a devoted husband of his wife Doris Hoskinson LoFiego; devoted father to his children; one daughter, Amanda LoFiego; one son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Amy LoFiego of Huntington; two aunts, Mary Romino of Fairmont and Mrs. Frances Spencer of Ohio; and mother-in-law, Mary Hoskinson of Fairmont. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

William H. Niebur

William H. Niebur, 76, of Hurricane died Sunday, February 22, 2004, in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton, after a long illness.

He was a retired truck driver from Smith Transfer, member of Teamsters Local 175, Charleston, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving: children, Robert and Robin Niebur of Hurricane, David and Julie Niebur of Hurricane, William Niebur of Houston, Texas , Connie and Bryan Bertlany of Houston; sister, Hilda Tennant of Wheeling; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Service was held Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.

Iris D. “Ginger” Davis

Iris D. “Ginger” Davis, 74, of Poca died February 24, 2004, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

She was a caregiver of SunBridge of Putnam Nursing Center.

Surviving: sons, Billy Covert of Red House, Michael Davis of Poca and Shane Covert of Sutton; sister, Joyce Cunningham of Charleston; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Friday, February 27, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor John Taylor officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery.

Zenith Allen Hawks

Zenith Allen Hawks, 83, of Scott Depot died February 26, 2004, at Regency Place.

Born in Mercer County, she was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Mason Sylvester Hawks.

She was retired from Stone & Thomas.

Surviving daughter and son-in-law, Jim and Toni Davis of Hurricane; son and daughter-in-law, W. Gary and Carolyn Hawks of Hurricane; sex grandsons and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Cook and Virginia Wheeler; brother, Joe Allen.

Interment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Good Shepherd Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Leo Blake

Dennis Leo Blake, 76, died February 24, 2004 in Kennansville, Florida.

He was a member of the Masons and retired from Appalachian Power Co., with 40 years of service. He was a Korean War veteran with two years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Trene Blake of Buffalo, and his sister, Maxine Carney of Ohio.

Surviving: his wife of 54 years, Mary Hull Blake; sisters, Mary Fisher of Red House and Daisy Thornton and husband, Jimmy, of Buffalo; sons, Denny Blake Jr. and wife, Connie, and Mike Blake and wife, Anna; grandchildren, Andy Blake, Rebecca Blake Cook, Joe Blake and Jordan Blake.

Service was held Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Delbert L. Hawley officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Walter Miller

Walter Miller, 55, of Hurricane died February 28, 2004, at home after a short illness.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and an employee of Putnam County Schools.

Surviving: wife, Natella Arbaugh Miller; son, Jason Miller and wife, Jennifer, of Hurricane; daughter, Susan Miller of Hurricane; granddaughters, Allee Niki and Haley-Grace of Hurricane; brothers, William Miller of Poolville, Texas and Isom Miller of Barboursville; sisters, Marie McChristian of West Hamlin, Virginia Reynolds of Salt Rock, Martha Triplett of Spindale, North Carolina, Bessie Farley of Harts, Rachel Wheeler of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Inex Wheeler of Kingston, Georgia.

Service was held Monday, March 1, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Minister George Erwin officiating. Burial was in Forest Memorial Cemetery, Milton.

James Leonard Smith

James Leonard Smith, 82, of Ewington, died Friday, February 27th, 2004, at home. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2nd, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial in Mount Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery, Milton.

Elsie Marie Shull

Elsie Marie Shull, 80, of Milton went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Cooper Independent Church with the Rev Ted Nance and the Rev. Windell Shull officiating. Burial in Bicker Cemetery. Mark Norris, Mark Barr, Marc Canterbury, Jason Nash, Shane Bills, Heath Bills, Jimmy Ferris, Gary Hightower and Joe Nance served as pallbearers. She was born Oct 9,1923, a daughter of the late Richard and Emmer Mannon Erwin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Matthew Shull; one brother, Calvin Erwin; one sister, Jewel Taylor; and two sons-in-law, Tom Nash and Lonnie Bills. She was a member of 1 Cooper Independent Church. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, JoAnn and Dewey Jordan of Milton and Betty Nash and Judith Bills, both of Barboursville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Patricia Shull and Roy and Melissa Shull, all of Milton; one brother, James Erwin of Hurricane; 11 grandchildren, Brian Nash of Georgia, Stephanie Barker of Florida, Kimberly Canterbury of Milton, Andrea Barr of Milton, Marc Canterbury of Huntington, Shane Bills of Barboursville, Valerie Ferris of Lancaster, Ohio, Heath Bills of Barboursville, Jason Nash of Sanford, N.C., Rachel Norris of Milton and Candace Shull Nance of Milton; and 15 great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Kloma Lane Watts

Kloma Lane Watts, 75, of Ona went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2004, at Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Private burial in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Ky. She was born Oct 24,1928, in Carter County, Ky, a daughter of the late Robert and Vivian Littleton Ison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Watts and granddaughter, Melissa Bishop. She attended Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Mary Watts of Ona, Danny and Pam Watts of Flatwoods, Ky., Robert and Lynn Watts of Stewart Tenn., and James and Janice Watts of Cynthiana, Ky; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marsha and Gary Birchfield of Lexington, Ky., and Susan Guinn of Crab Orchard, Ky; one sister, Janet Ferrell of Columbus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Arlie “Lard” White Jr.

Arlie “Lard” White Jr., 80, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb 29, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Scott Ferguson and Lucian Nida. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born May 15, 1923, in Salt Rock, a son of the late Arlie L and Icily Davis White . He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret McComas White ; two brothers, Letson White and Okey White ; one sister Pamela White ; and one brother-in-law, Floyd Edmonds. He was retired from ACF after 42 years of service. He was a member and Sunday school teacher at Salt Rock United Methodist Church. He was a SO-year member of Hamlin Lodge #79 A.F. & A.M., whose members conducted masonic graveside services. He was also a member of Huntington Commandery #9 Knights Templar, the Beni Kedem Shriners, the Order of the Eastern Star #89 in Guyandotte, the Royal Arch Masons in Guyandotte, and he held the Mountain Grand and Glorious Order of Hillbilly Degree. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Betty White and Wandel “Pee Wee” and Deloris White , all of Salt Rock; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joyce Edmonds of Salt Rock, and JoAnn and Oliver Steward of Salt Rock; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Shivel, Christine Chapman, and Lois White ; one brother-in-law, David McComas of California; two nieces, Debbie Nance and Kim Wilson; seven nephews, Mike, Rod and Chris Steward, Frank and David Edmonds and Joe and Todd White ; a special grand-nephew, “Ol Joe” Joseph Nance; and a host of friends and neighbors. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank his faithful caregivers.

Leota Marie Clark Harshbarger

Leota Marie Clark Harshbarger, of Easley, S.C., formerly of Huntington, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at home. She was retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Co., Columbus, Ohio, and a member of Geer Baptist Church, Easley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Harshbarger, in 1994; a daughter, Alice K. Harshbarger, 2001; one son, Clark Gary Harshbarger; and her parents, Gilbert and Lida Davis Clark. She is survived by one sister, Delma P. Tinsley of Columbus, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Henson Mortuary was in charge of local arrangements.

Theodore Roosevelt “Teddy” Black, Jr.

Theodore Roosevelt “Teddy” Black Jr., 60, of Charleston, W.Va., formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., died Sunday, February 22, 2004, in Charleston Area Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Henson Mortuary, Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Mr. Black was a retired physical therapist for the state of West Virginia at Institute and a member of Bible Center Church, Charleston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roosevelt Black Sr. and Mary Ellen Blankenship Black. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Schell Fortunato; a daughter, Angela Davis and her husband Hollie of Barboursville; a son, Michael Sowards and his wife Rachel Sowards of Milton; three sisters, Joan Black and Barbara Elam, both of Barboursville, and Dottie Black of Princeton; two brothers, Everett Black of Greenbottom, W.Va., and Bill Black of Milton; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Clyde L. Billups

Clyde L. Billups, 92, of Scottsdale, AZ went home to be with the Lord, February 10, 2004. He was originally from Milton, WV, the son of Lota and William Billups, deceased. Survivors include his wife, Imogene Glenn Billups; sister, Freda Wallace; sons, Bi Billups of Gray, GA, Charles Billups of Ijamsville, MD; daughter, Sue Roberts of Scottsdale; 8 grandchildren (one deceased) and 11 great-grandchildren; nephew, Lloyd Wallace and niece, La Donna Childers. Services were held on Monday, February 16, 2004 at Green Acres Chapel of Light, 401 N. Hayden Rd. in Scottsdale. In memory, contributions may be made to Heart Line Ministries c/o Lane Franks, 4102 W. Columbine, Phoenix, AZ 85029 or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ. 85014. Green Acres Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Harold E. Cramer

Harold Edward “Ed” Cramer, 63, of Hurricane died April 19, 2004, at home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 1, 1940 in Charleston, a son of Helen and Harold Cramer, currently of South Charleston. He was retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston plant, with 30 years of service and was a member of Otter Branch Bible Church, Buffalo. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Also surviving: wife, Rosenell Cramer; children, Jack Luikart and wife, Kelly, David Cramer and wife, Cindy, all of Hurricane, Joe Luikart of Winfield, and Dee Dee Lawles of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Dwight Cramer and wife, Vicky, of Savannah, Georgia; 10 grandchildren, Shanda F. Burney and husband, Jason, Heather, Josh, Lauren, Stephen, Zachary, Isaac, Jordan, Aaron, and Allison; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Alexis and Peyton. Service was held Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Pastor Mike Tucker officiating. Entombment was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Helen J. Hodges Cook

Helen J. Hodges Cook, 77, of Christiansburg, Virginia, formerly of Hurricane, died Saturday, April 17, 2004. She attended Pleasant View Church of God in Hurricane. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. Hodges Sr. and Pearley May Mynes Hodges, brothers, Robert A. Hodges Jr., John Hodges and Woodrow Hodges, sisters, Victoria Aleshire, Goldie Mae Roberts, Reba Gardner and Marjorie Lanning, and one son, James R. Cook. Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Billy J. Spears of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Traci and Michael Cook, Sarah and Jeremy Spears of Christiansburg, James W. Cook of Hurricane, Marjorie and husband, Thomas Stepanski of Lords Valley, Pennsylvania , Melodie and husband, Randy McLane of Red House; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jared Wade of Christiansburg, Jeremy, Tanner and Morgan of Hurricane, Kristina and Justin Stepanski of Lords Valley, and Cole and Hollie McLane of Red House. Service was held Wednesday, April 21 2004, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Harold Richards and the Rev. T. Michael Bond officiating. Entombment was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

H. Pauline Grass

H. Pauline Grass, 84, of Hurricane died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, following a short illness.

She was a resident of Hurricane for 51 years and member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Grass, sisters, Ruby Jeffers and Kathleen Kingery, and brother Robert Miller.

Surviving: sons and their wives, Bill and Judy of Hurricane, John Jr. and Barbara of Ripley; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard and Betty Miller of Miller, Ohio, Jack and Annie Reynolds of Hamlin; sisters, Mae Anthony of Greenwood, South Carolina, Jean and Jim Ermalovich of Huntington.

Service was held Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home Chapel, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.

Billie E. Hutchinson

Billie E. Hutchinson, 75, of Hurricane died April 18, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital.

He was horn August 26, 1928 in Nellis, a son of the late William “Wid” and Elva Adkins Hutchinson. He was a retired set-up man with Ford Motor Co. with more than 38 years of service He was a member and usher of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Hurricane, and a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.

Surviving: wife, Geraldine Hill Hutchinson; daughter, Melissa Busch of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters and their husband, Alma Jean and Joe Keller of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, Barbara Pickett of Wickliffe, Ohio, Judy and Doug Rogalski of Bedford, Ohio, Mary and Tony Bandiera of Livermore California, and Penny Temple of Port Huron, Michigan; brothers and their wives, Bob and Loretta Hutchinson of Procious WV, Kenneth and Connie Hutchinson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Paul Hutchinson of Los Angeles, California, Jennings and Jackie Hutchinson of Hudson, Ohio, and Mike Hutchinson of Livermore, California; three grandchildren, Isabella, Josephine and Savannah.

Service was held Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Pastors Bruce Young and John Duffy officiating. Burial was in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
