HALLTOWN, W.Va. - Dorothy Lena Owens Swindall, 84, of Conestoga Estates, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at the residence of her daughter, Conestoga Estates.
Born June 11, 1913, in Dickenson County, Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Pheobe Davis Owens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Swindall, in 1961.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty L. Matthews of Manassas, Va., and Joan S. "Jody" Hunter of Conestoga Estates; one sister, Gertrude VanDerpool of South Shore, Ky.; two brothers, Roy Owens and Guy Owens, both of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cora Tompkins and Ethel Owens; and two brothers, Holly Owens and Earl Owens.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Sandra Harshbarger will officiate. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park cemetery, Winchester.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jerry F. Bazzrea
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Jerry Franklin Bazzrea, 62, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born April 28, 1935, in Charlottesville, Va., he was the son of the late Sidney Albert Bazzrea Sr. and Mary Frances Kelly Bazzrea.
He was employed by Hillside Liquors, Sandy Hook. Prior, he was retired as a heavy equipment operator in the excavating business.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town.
She is survived by his wife of 15 years, Helene J. Alvarez Bazzrea; one stepdaughter, Jacky M. Cameron of Charles Town; one sister, Jayne Boone of San Diego; and one brother, Sidney Bazzrea Jr. of Staunton, Va.
A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Aline Simone Bunker, 58, of Hedgesville, and formerly of Baltimore, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 27, 1939, in Lowell, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Emile and Ernestine Grady Lambert.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by her husband, of 28 years, John Edward Bunker; four daughters, Joline M. Kesecker of Hedgesville, Kelly M. Jennings and Patricia A. Allen, both of Baltimore and Erin M. Peterson of Edgewood, Md.; one son, Gerald "Sammy" Bunker of Acton, Mass.; four sisters, Jeanne Guay, Theresa Dominique, Pauline Ducharme and Doris Neal, all of Lowell; two brothers, Robert Lambert and Ernest Lambert, both of Lowell; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Lambert and Lucille Champagne; and two brothers, Leo Lambert and Edmond Lambert.
The Funeral Liturgy will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 116 S. Washington St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will be celebrant. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, where a vigil will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Edith Mae Werdebaugh, 92, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born Aug. 26, 1905, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward Holland and Rose Ann Yost Spielman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Prather Werdebaugh, in 1970.
For many years, she owned and operated Werdebaugh's Grocery Store and motel on U.S. 522 south, Berkeley Springs. She had been a homemaker since retirement.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by five daughters, Iva Lee Rolenson of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Frieda V. Albright and Georgia L. Schommer, both of Summerville, Fla., Betty J. Noble of Naples, Fla., and Sylvia A. Rowland of Chesapeake, Va.; one son, James E. Werdebaugh of Summerville; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, LeEsta E. Robertson and Louise E. Prevost; one son, Ralph T. Werdebaugh; two sisters, Agnes Vanorsdale and Metha Henry; and six brothers, Dustin Spielman, Dewey Spielman, Ardoff Spielman, Fonzie Spielman, Arlie Spielman and Alston Spielman.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - John Jasper Bowen, 74, of John Brown Farm, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at Facquier County Hospital, Warrenton, Va.
Born April 5, 1923, in Randolph County, Ala., he was the son of the late John William and Julie Mitchell Bowen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Michelina Mary Bowen, in 1983.
He was a master plumber, having retired as a plumbing inspector for Fairfax County, Va.; earlier, he was a self-employed plumber.
He had served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Shannondale Club LTD, Harpers Ferry; Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 3522, Charles Town; Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71, Charles Town; Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town; and Macon-Ware Masonic Lodge 192, Falls Church, Va.
He is survived by one daughter, Kamela M. "Shelly" Eberwein of Harpers Ferry; one son, Michael Bowen of LaGrange, Ga.; one sister, Ruth Sprayberry of LaGrange; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lena Brumblow, Willie Lipp, Minnie Walker and Cora Chatham; and one brother, Charlie Bowen.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ethel Virginia Stubbs Spangler, 68, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Feb. 9, 1929, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late William Edward and Ethel Louise Lowe Stubbs.
She was formerly the credit department supervisor at Sears.
She was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Bible Study Group.
She was a member of DAV Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Walter J. Spangler; three daughters, Sharon Schmedicke of Frederick, Md., Elaine Wilkinson of Aspen Hill, Md., and Janice Smith of Martinsburg; one son, Jay White of Germantown, Md.; one stepson, John Stephen Spangler of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Jean Sullivan of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one brother, William Edward Stubbs of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one uncle; three nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Smith.

Born Oct. 9, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Dr. John H. and Dorothy Dammeier Kilmer.
She attended Virginia Intermont College; Potomac State College; and Shepherd College.
She was formerly employed as a medical secretary; and also worked for National Fisheries Research Center.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
She was a member of National Registry of Medical Secretaries; Junior Civic League; and Young Republicans.
She is survived by three sisters, Patricia K. Anderson of Tucson, Ariz., and Fredrica K. Meitzen and Katherine K. Powell, both of Morgantown, W.Va.; and two brothers, John H. Kilmer Jr. and Wade C. Kilmer, both of Martinsburg.
Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
