MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lyle Jackson "Jack" Laing Sr., 74, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 27, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Luther and Florence "Kitchen" Laing.
He was retired, after 20 years, from General Motors in the receiving department. Earlier, he had been employed with Dunn and Seibert as a mechanic.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Central Chapel.
He was a member of Berryville Steam and Gas Association.
He is survived by his wife, of 53 years, Glenna Bohrer Laing; three daughters, Patricia Price, Edna Weigle and Carolyn Linton, all of Martinsburg; two sons, Lyle Jack Laing Jr. and Michael Laing, both of Martinsburg; five sisters, Ada Roselie Laing and Frances DeHaven, both of Martinsburg, Mary Risinger of Cherry Run, W.Va., Bessie Courtney of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Jeanett Harrison of Ridgeway, W.Va.; three brothers, Lewis "Cobb" Laing and John "Pete" Laing, both of Cherry Run, and Donald "Wink" Laing of Berkeley Station, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elma Getchel and Beulah Miller; and three brothers, Henry Laing, Robert Laing and James Laing.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Pastor Frank Douty will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military graveside services by VFW and American Legion.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary E. Leonard
INWOOD, W.Va. - Mary E. Sims Leonard, 67, of Inwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 7, 1930, in Yellow Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joshua and Gertrude Orndorff Elliott.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles O. Sims.
She was formerly employed as a dietitian at Heartland Nursing Home and the Community on Aging.
She is survived by one daughter, Lori Leonard of Inwood; two sons, Ronald Sims and Donald Sims, both of Martinsburg; three sisters, Virgie Dellinger and Hilda Faircloth, both of Winchester, Va., and Marjorie Lucassen of Baltimore; four brothers, William "Buck" Elliott, Frank Elliott, Winfred Elliott and Philip Elliott, all of Winchester; 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Leonard, Nov. 12, 1997; three sisters, Genevieve Unger, Rosalie Elliott and Charlotte Triggs; one brother, Harry Elliott; and a granddaughter, April Sims Miller.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark B. McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Freda A. Moler
HALLTOWN, W.Va. - Freda A. Bowers Moler, 91, of Halltown, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Shenandoah Nursing Home, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Dec. 25, 1905, in Stephenson, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Mattie Jane Lester McAboy.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Winerd "Gus" Bowers, in 1956.
She was a homemaker.
She was a life-long member of Halltown Presbyterian Church, Halltown, where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer of the church and Sunday school.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty J. Sipe of Charles Town, W.Va.; three sons, J. Douglas Bowers of Winter Haven, Fla., Donald "Johnny" A. Bowers and Thomas H. Bowers, both of Charles Town; one sister, Margaret Jensen of Falls Church, Va.; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Moler, in 1981; two children, Ella Mae Muse, in 1990 and William Elwood "Slats" Bowers, in 1962; two sisters, Helen Clark and Frances Fauver; and two brothers, Marshall McAboy and Wilco McAboy.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Halltown Presbyterian Church, Halltown. Lay minister Alvin Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

Rudolph V. Underwood Sr.
SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. - Rudolph Valentino "Rudy" Underwood Sr., 64, of Summit Point, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Oct. 30, 1933, in Clarke County, Va., he was the son of Murtle Underwood Richardson of Charles Town, W.Va. and the late Luther Richardson.
He was a member of Prosperity Baptist Church.
He was employed by Seneca and Excavating Inc.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, June Elizabeth Doleman Underwood; two daughters, Brenda Alsberry Walker and Cherly Anita Underwood, both of Summit Point; two sons, Rudolph Valentino Underwood Jr. and Donald Davis Underwood, both of Summit Point; one sister, Victoria Curry of Rippon, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Underwood.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Prosperity Baptist Church, Summit Point. The Rev. John Green and the Rev. Lawrence Wilson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Prosperity Baptist Church cemetery.

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Lida Emm Miller Robertson, 73, of Bolivar, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at the home of her daughter, in Coral Springs, Fla.
Born June 30, 1924, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mae Louise Hayden Miller.
She was a homemaker and worked part-time as a tax preparer for H&R Block, Frederick, Md.
She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was involved with Young Women of the Church.
She is survived by her husband, of 50 years, Mack W. Robertson; one daughter, June L. Storer of Coral Springs; one son, Bryan D. Robertson of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one sister, Rose Campbell of Rockville, Md.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Warren Robertson; and two brothers, Gardner Miller and Joseph Miller.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town, W.Va. Bishop Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Bolivar.

BARDANE, W.Va. - Samuel "Sam" Clarence Cecil Berry, 61, of Bardane, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 28, 1936, in Bardane, he was the son of the late Cecil Oscar and Minnie Blanche Donivan Berry.
He retired as a trackman from CSX Railroad.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Elizabeth Costello Berry; three stepsons, William E. Pulse and Douglas W. Pulse, both of Martinsburg, and Charles E. Pulse, at home; two sisters, Mary Caiazzo of Charles Town, W.Va., and Daisy B. Sencindiver of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two half brothers, John Bagent and Vernon Bagent.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town. The Rev. Joanne Alexander and the Rev. Kent Tice will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Sara Darlene Baltimore Smith, 56, of Brooklyn, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, in Brooklyn.
She was born Jan. 23, 1941, in Charles Town, W.Va.
She is survived by her parents, Bishop Eugene Baltimore of Ranson, W.Va., and Frances Baltimore of Annapolis; one daughter, Darcel Smith of Brooklyn and one son, Anton Smith of Brooklyn; two sisters, Anna Brown of Cliffwood Beach, N.J., and Florence McDaniels of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Bishop Wilbert Baltimore; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Baltimore.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace Funeral Chapel, 607 N. Conduit Blvd., Brooklyn, N.Y. 11208.

Gerald F. Santmier
COCOA, Fla. - Gerald F. Santmier, 64, of Cocoa, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Orlando (Fla.) Medical Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1933, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Hollis R. Santmier and Ruth McCormick Santmier Leatherman.
He was a 1950 graduate of Martinsburg High School; and a 1955 graduate of Shepherd College.
He was a former band director at Hedgesville High School; and was employed by McDonald Douglas Aircraft.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Canfield of Martinsburg; one son, Richard F. Santmier of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one foster brother, William Santmier of Clearbrook, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Douglas J. Hollida will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian cemetery.
