MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Evangeline Ruckman Johnson, 72, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born June 11, 1925, in Hampshire County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Loring A. and Nella McDonald Ruckman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Johnson.
She was a 1943 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She retired from Martinsburg Social Security Administration Office. Previously, she was employed at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center, Fisherville, Va., for eight years; National Institute of Health, Washington, D.C., for three years; and Social Security Administration Office, Charlottesville, Va., for two years.
She was a member of Westview Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Lennette Wood of West Lake Village, Calif.; and two step grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Burial will be private in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Katherine M. Tambourine
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Katherine M. Tambourine, 61, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 20, 1935, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry A. Myers and Mable Howell Myers.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Tambourine.
She is survived by three sisters, Ann Elizabeth Ulanday of San Diego, Calif., Sandra K. Jenkins of Berryville, Va., and Vickie Randall of Martinsburg; six brothers, Charles Myers, Nelson Myers, Douglas Myers, Robert Myers, William Myers, all of Martinsburg, and Harold Myers of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, William Tambourine Jr. and three sisters, Anna Lindayen, Geraldine Datuin and Linda Myers.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. is celebrant. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
Johanna H. Chapman
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Johanna Hilberg "Daisy" Chapman, 99, of Alexandria, and formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Feb. 18, 1898, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late James Franklin and Emma James Hilberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Chapman, in 1967.
She was a 1916 graduate of Bushwick High School, Brooklyn.
For 64 years she worked as a paralegal on Wall Street, with the law firm of Beekman and Bogue, New York City. Most recently, she had been a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Brooklyn.
She was a member of Women's Professional Guild, Brooklyn.
She is survived by one son, James F. Chapman of Alexandria, Va., and Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Diane Michele Mifflin of Marietta, Ga., and Eric William Chapman of Powder Springs, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Hilberg and Harry Hilberg.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Evergreens cemetery, Brooklyn.
The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at George Werst Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave., Glendale, N.Y.

Richard E. Cunningham
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Richard Edward Cunningham, 76, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 22, 1921, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Edward Lewis and Myrtle May Murray Cunningham.
He attended Clear Spring Elementary School.
He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of private first class.
Prior to his military service, he worked at Parker Tire Co., Hagerstown. After discharge, he was a truck driver with both Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp., Berkeley Springs, and Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown. He retired from Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp. in 1984, after 23 years of service. He then worked as a mechanic.
He was a member of Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of AARP; and Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222, Clear Spring.
He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Julia Mae Barker Cunningham; one son, Eddie L. Cunningham of Hagerstown; one sister, Goldie Shifflett of Hagerstown; two brothers, William Cunningham of Hagerstown and Harry Cunningham of Keedysville; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Hose; and an infant sister.
Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. William D. Leonard will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

RIDGEWAY, W.Va. - Thomas Ashby Silvius, 86, of Specks Run Road, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Shenandoah Nursing Home, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Aug. 13, 1911, in Shenandoah County, Va., he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Lilly Baker Silvius.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Downey Silvius, in 1996.
He is survived by two daughters, Janice Marie Alger of Rileyville, Va., and Sharon Dale Rose of Ranson; four sons, Charles Preston Silvius of Des Moines, Iowa, Ashby Ray Silvius of McKeedyville, Pa., Thomas A. Silvius III of Capon Bridge, W.Va., and Kenneth Franklin Silvius of Ridgeway, W.Va.; 24 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; and three brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Harold M. Nichols
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Harold Montgomery Nichols, 88, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born Oct. 27, 1909, in Montgomery County, Md., he was the son of the late Charles and Della Cosgrave Nichols.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel C. Baker Nichols, in 1983.
He retired as a division superintendent from D.C. Transit System, Washington, D.C. He worked part-time at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home, Bethesda, Md., during World War II.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a charter member of Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad, Bethesda.
He is survived by his wife, Janette Susan Dodson Seibel Schultz Nichols; one son, Harold "Ed" Nichols of Berlin, Md.; one stepson, Lewis F. Seibel of Berkeley Springs; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park, 12800 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, Md. The Rev. William C. Swope will officiate. Family and friends are to assemble at the cemetery gate.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Harold G. Miller Sr., 79, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 26, 1918, in Scrabble, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Butler and Mary Jane Snyder Miller.
He retired from Martin Marietta in 1980 after 45 years.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Catherine Sowers Miller; one daughter, Lois E. Miller of Morgantown, W.Va.; one son, H. Glenn Miller Jr. of Martinsburg; one stepdaughter, Barbara Lee Flowers of Martinsburg; one stepson, Cleo L. Haines Jr. of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Alma M. Miller and Hester V. Sanders, both of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mable E. Albert; and seven brothers, Martin L. Miller, Melvin M. Miller, Lester M. Miller, Charles B. Miller Jr., Ralph E. Miller, Orville V. Miller and Jack L. Miller.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Dr. G. Edward Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
