Frances E. Roush

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Frances Elizabeth Roush, 92, formerly of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at Chattanooga, Tenn., where she had resided the past year.

Born Feb. 16, 1905, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Ida Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Roush.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Harriet Anderson of Chattanooga; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Thompson; and two sisters, Ethel Thompson Davis and Nan Thompson Hardy.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 101 W. Martin St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Carroll R. Detrow

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Carroll R. Detrow, 80, of Falling Waters, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born July 14, 1917, in Ringgold, Md., he was the son of the late Roy H. and Alice Sigler Detrow.

He was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Washington County Board of Education.

He was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club, Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Garnet M. McMillan Detrow; two sons, Donald Detrow of Fairfax, Va. and Ronald Detrow of Falling Waters; five stepdaughters, Joann Shielding of Largo, Fla., Judy Alvarado of Dallas, Janet Cosgrove of Hagerstown, Linda Kauffman of Chambersburg, Pa., and Rosa Sours of Cearfoss; four stepsons, Charles Atha of Falling Waters, James Atha of Martinsburg, W.Va., Benjamin Atha of Williamsport and John Atha of Hagerstown; one sister, Evelyn Duffey of Boonsboro; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg. Pastor Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

G. Roderick Cheeseman

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - G. Roderick Cheeseman, 87, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 29, 1910, in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of the late George and Grace Dunham Cheeseman. He was raised by the late Charles and Mildred Thorton.

He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy and Carnegie Tech.

In 1958, he purchased and restored "Boydville," which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on Oct. 15, 1970.

He was manager of Berkeley Lumber Co. in 1941. In 1946, he started Cheeseman Construction Co., which he owned and operated.

He was a member of Christ Reformed Church.

He was former director of People's National Bank and a member of the Trust Committee; a former member of the City of Martinsburg Appeal Board; former member of Federal Housing Advisory Committee for West Virginia; and a member of Dealer-Advisory Committee, United States Steel Home and National Society of Professional Engineers, George Washington Chapter.

He was a member of the Berkeley County Planning Commission; chairman of the building committee of the Gen. Adam Stephen Memorial Association; charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving as president in 1945; and a member of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of Kiwanis Club for 37 years; West Virginia Society of Professional Engineers; Martinsburg Golf and Country Club; Martinsburg Lodge 778, BPOE Elks; Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose; United Commercial Travelers; Travelers Protective Association; Izaak Walton League; and Berkeley County Humane Society.

A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, he was a member of Equality Lodge 44, AF&AM; Osiris Temple, Mystic Order of Shrine; member and past president of the Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club; member of Royal Order of Jesters; Grand Tall in 1957, Shenandoah Forest 150, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Order of Demolay-Honorary Legion of Honor.

He was past president of Berkeley County Historical Society; member of Historical Societies in Jefferson County, Harpers Ferry, Winchester-Frederick County; West Virginia Historical Society and National Trust for Historic Preservation.

He is survived by his wife, of 65 years, Clara May Burns Cheeseman of Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown; one brother, Frederick Thorton of Hagerstown; one niece; and one nephew.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Christ Reformed Church. Dr. Thomas E. Hartshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, with Masonic graveside services by Equality Lodge 44, AF&AM.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Reformed Church, 117 E. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401; or to Gen. Adam Stephen Memorial Association, 313 E. John St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Clyde W. Frankenberry

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Clyde William "Bill" Frankenberry, 77, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 4, 1920, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late George H. and Ermo C. DeLancey Frankenberry.

He was a self-employed accountant since 1955; and formerly was employed by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Internal Revenue Service.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Council 1169, Knights of Columbus; Berkeley Post 14, American Legion; Martinsburg Lodge 120; Loyal Order of Moose. He was past quartermaster of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; past president and treasurer of Westphal Hose Co. 5; past president and secretary of Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association.

He also was a member of West Virginia State Firemen's Association; Pennsylvania State Firemen's Association; Maryland Society of Accountants; AARP; NARFE; a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; board member of KD Court; and board member of Pan Tran.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Fulk Frankenberry, whom he married April 20, 1946; two daughters, Anita F. Brant of Shippensburg, Pa., and M. Kay Morrow of Martinsburg; two sons, Clyde L. Frankenberry and William F. Frankenberry, both of Martinsburg; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold "Dick" Frankenberry, George H. Frankenberry Jr. and C. Donald Frankenberry; and one grandson, Clyde Brigham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will be celebrant. Burial will be at Rosedale cemetery, where military graveside services will be provided by Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

The family will meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home before going to the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic School, 336 S. Queen St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401; or to the charity of one's choice.

Frances E. Allgire

INWOOD, W.Va. - Frances Elizabeth Allgire, 78, of Inwood, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth S. Smith, in Inwood.

Born May 28, 1919, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Odie and Hallie Moss Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Allgire, in 1967.

She retired from the nursing profession, having been employed with Vindobona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights, Md.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Sue Smith of Inwood; one sister, Delores Mancino of Bridgeport, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark D. Smith, in 1991.

Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mouse cemetery, Elkins, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Irvin L. Breeden

RANSON, W.Va. - Irvin Lee Breeden, 79, of Ranson, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born June 30, 1918, in Augusta County, Va., he was the son of the late Church William and Margaret Dodson Breeden.

He retired from Smalley Package Co., Berryville, Va. He previously was employed at John F. Ambrose Orchards, Charles Town, W.Va.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Virginia Welsh Breeden; two daughters, Charlotte Squires, at home, and Beulah M. Breeden of Winchester; one son, Roger Lee Breeden Sr. of Winchester; one sister, Katherine Mitchell of Winchester; three brothers, Ernest Breeden of Ranson, Benjamin Breeden of Charles Town and Marvin Breeden of Berryville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town. The Rev. Roy Wilkins will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold L. Staubs

SILVER GROVE, W.Va. - Harold Lee Staubs, 63, of Silver Grove, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born Oct. 28, 1934, in Silver Grove, he was the son of the late Lewis Henson and Leona Belle Ingram Staubs.

He was a retired self-employed concrete contractor.

He was a member of Silver Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member of United Methodist Men and was a lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and a member of the choir.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Delma Buzzard Staubs; two daughters, Pamela D. Fravel of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Patricia Ann Staubs, at home; two sons, Louie Staubs and Gregory L. Staubs, both of Harpers Ferry; three sisters, Ellen Cole of Martinsburg, W.Va., Gloria Seal of Inwood, W.Va., and Beulah Billman of Carlisle, Pa.; five brothers, Paul F. Staubs of Loudoun Heights, Va., Roland Staubs of Gowen City, Pa., Vernon Staubs of Martinsburg, Donald Staubs of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Raymond Staubs of Silver Grove, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Craig Staubs; and one brother, Gilbert Staubs Sr.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Silver Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Basil Day Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Silver Grove cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
