FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Margaret Pauline Shoemaker, 79, of Route 1, Box 101, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Upton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mammie Elliott Pike.
She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Clear Spring.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary A. Cunningham of Falling Waters and Helen E. Sanbower of Hagerstown; two sons, William H. Shoemaker of Funkstown, and Ray E. Shoemaker of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Sites and Mary Baer.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Mary L. Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery in Clear Spring.
A viewing will be at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Franklin D. Rogers
INWOOD, W.Va. - Franklin D. "Bill" Rogers, 64, of Route 1, Inwood, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 22, 1933, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., he was the son of the late William E. and Anna Rutherford Rogers.
He was retired from Royce Hosiery Mill.
He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church.
He was a member of AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Smith Rogers; one daughter, Carolyn Teets of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; one son, Franklin L. Rogers of Inwood; two sisters, Ruby Snyder of Bunker Hill and Peggy Swope of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three brothers, William E. Rogers of Winchester, Va., James Rogers of Bunker Hill and Donald Rogers of Gerrardstown; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard Rogers, Max Rogers, Ellsworth Rogers Jr. and Roy Rogers; and a grandson, Terry Rogers.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle, W.Va. 45 West. The Rev. Don Preston will officiate. Burial will be in Bunker Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends today and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Charles Millard Viands, 82, of Bakerton Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Hilltop House Home for Adults, Berryville Pike, Winchester, Va.
Born June 24, 1915, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur A. and Fannie Longerbeam Viands.
He was employed by Shenandoah Quarries, Millville, W.Va. Prior, he retired after 39 years of service with Standard Lime and Stone Co., Millville.
He was a member of Engle United Methodist Church, Engle, W.Va.
He was a member of Bakerton Ruritan Club.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Reba R. Whittington Viands; two daughters, Rebecca Jean Nuneville of Fairfax, Va., and Susan Diane Wyndham of Frederick, Va.; one son, Gary M. Viands of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Isabelle Wilt of Charles Town, W.Va.; one brother, Arthur Viands of Ranson, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Della Pearl, Bessie Breeden, Lacey Bussard and Pauline Wilt; and two brothers, George William Viands and Howard Viands.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Daniel Montague will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Joseph Anthony Kues, 78, of Hedgesville, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born March 21, 1919, in Trenton, Ill., he was the son of the late Otto Kues.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Voltz Kues, in 1988.
He retired as a computer operator from the Internal Revenue Service Center.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 896.
He is survived by one daughter, Ruth Rainford of Fredericksburg, Va.; one son, Steven Kues of Hedgesville; 10 sisters and brothers; one granddaughter, Deborah Fucello of Woodbridge, Va.; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale cemetery Road, Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John Wesley Abrell, 85, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 3, 1912, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late John William and Daisy Betsey Thompson Abrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merle Catherine Aikens Abrell.
He was a 1930 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was a retired fruit broker.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Chambers Men's Bible Class and the Chancel Choir.
He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Catherine Barnes of Los Angeles; one son, Dr. John William Abrell of Adamstown, Md.; one sister, Mary Elizabeth "Marie" Turner of Holly Hills, Fla.; one brother, Ralph Frederick Abrell of Corinth, Miss.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Guy Ashlin Abrell.

She retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in housekeeping.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John R. Anderson, of the Veterans Affairs Hospital; one son, Timothy W. Anderson of Inwood, W.Va.; two sisters, Sarah F. Hikler and Peggy A. Caton, both of Martinsburg; three brothers, George F. Saylor, Norman L. Saylor and Flory Saylor, all of Berkeley County; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
