Lucile Penick Boyce, 86, died February 3, 2005, in Olympia, Washington .
She was born November 5, 1918 in Swiss, the daughter of the late George and Mae Penick of Hurricane. She came to Hurricane at an early age and graduated from Hurricane High School. She attended Marshall University, also graduating from St. Martin's College. She taught school in Putnam County and in Washington State for many years. She was known as an avid reader and a student of Native American culture and history.
Surviving: sister, Virginia Nall of Hurricane; son, Bob Singer, and daughter, Margie Haddad, of Seattle, Washington ; grandchildren, Angel and Rick Faulkner, Matt and Tyler Singer.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
Brycle Jividen
Brycle Jividen, 86, of Eleanor died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born March 12, 1918 in Putnam County, the son of the late John Edward and Bessie Jividen. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jewel Jividen, several sisters and brothers.
He was a retired farmer and union concrete finisher with 30 years of service. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving: sons and their wives, Arnold Edward “Eddie” and Barbara of Midway, Jerry Dean and Rhonda of Eleanor; daughter and her husband, Roberta Lee Coleman and Donald of Flatwoods; brothers, Ronald Jividen of Chesire, Ohio and Lester “Buddy” Jividen of Eleanor; sister, Virginia Melton of Tennessee; grandchildren and their spouses, Terry and Terri Coleman of Cross Lanes, Carol Coleman Boyd and David of Cross Lanes, Ron and Christina Coleman of Washington , D.C., Adam and Jill Jividen of Grandview, Putnam County, and Amy Tucker of Eleanor; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Ryan, Courtney, Shelby and Dena Jo; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Service was held Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Paul Arthur officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Peggie Ann Henderson
Peggie Ann Henderson, 76, of Hurricane died Friday, February 18, 2005, at home.
She was a retired schoolteacher with 28 years of service for the Putnam County School Board, having taught at Conner Street Elementary School for 23 years. She was a former employee for Finity Coal Company and a member of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, Hurricane. She was a graduate of Marshall College, Concord College and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clarence Henderson.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, James Conley and Cathy Henderson of Hurricane; sister, Marita Kay Riggin of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Jessica Ann Henderson, Logan James Henderson, Jessica Eggleston, Billy Eggleston, Brian and Victoria Green; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was held Sunday, February 20, 2005, at Forrest Burdette Memorial Untied Methodist Church with Dr. Dan Hogan and Dr. Thom Chapman officiating. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Peggy Adkins, 49, of Huntington, WV, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 at her residence. She was born June 17, 1955, in Milton, WV, a daughter of the late James C. Conner and Anvy J. Janey Conner. She was an employee of American National Rubber, Ceredo, WV. Peggy was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. James L. Adkins. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Anita (Michael) Bradburn of South Point, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Laura) Adkins of South Point; six grandchildren, Jalynn and MaKayla Bradburn, Abbi Adkins and Adrianna, Casaundra and David Adkins; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patsy Smith, Mary and Larry McDaniel and Freda and Thomas Kingery, with whom she made her home, all of Huntington; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Jean Carpenter of Huntington; a special aunt, Violet Moore, of Milton, WV; two special nieces, Tammy Staley of Wayne, WV, and Debbie Carter of Huntington; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Carol Husk of Ona, WV, and Diane Whaley and Bobbi Saurborne, both of Huntington. The family wishes to say thank you to Norma and Lloyd Adkins and Kelli Meehling and family. Private family services were held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dallas Moore officiating. Eloise Burgess, of Tempe, Ariz.,. formerly of Barboursville, W Va, went to be with her Lord Feb. 16, 2005. Eloise was the wife of James Burgess, who preceded her in death. Eloise was the daughter of George Lewis Burgess and Laura Lorena Cockrill of Barboursville, W.Va. She is survived by her son Jim Burgess and his wife Sandi, of Chandler, Ariz.; her daughter, Lynda Gail Sizemore and her husband. Larry, of Fort Collins, Colo.; and her grandchildren Alan, Jim, Steve and Celeste Burgess of Arizona, Laura Young and Larry Sizemore II of Colorado and Leslie Stoops of Sarasota, Fla. James Homer Holley, 84, of Glenwood went home to be with his Lord Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Lafe Meadows Cemetery, Glenwood. He was born March 17, 1920, in Mason County, W.Va, a son of the late James and Luellar Harbour Holley. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Holley and one daughter-in-law, Marietta Holley. Homer was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Violet Burks Holley; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Fred Fisher; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Ray and Dianna Lee Holley and William Earl and Karen Kay Holley, three sisters, Edna Clagg, Virginia Hurlbut and Addie Frye; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Lenora Paugh Wilcox Meeks, 77, of Crown City, Ohio, formerly of Barboursville, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, by Pastor Ken Gowin. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Leonard and Vergie Ferguson Paugh. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. H. Clifford Wilcox; one sister, Naomi Callahan; and three brothers, Raymond, Denver and Curtis Paugh. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jack Meeks; one daughter, Kathy Ball of Amelia Island, Fla.; one son, Jim Wilcox of Russell Ky; three sisters, Nannie Wilson, Glendora “Dodie” Wilcox and Virginia “Jenny” Johnson, all of Huntington; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Connie L. Freeman, 52, of Ona, WVa, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. The widow of Denver Allen Freeman, she is survived by her daughter, Alissa “Nikki” Freeman; son, Chad Freeman; daughter-in-law, Melody Freeman and precious granddaughter, Baylee Freeman. She is also survived by her mother, Rosalea Miller; sister, Nancy Harless, and her many, many, beloved family members and friends. Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister and brothers, Risa Murphy, Norman, Rodney. and Greg Miller, her father, Norman Miller; grandmother, Laura Miller, and father-in-law, Willard Freeman. Special thanks to Mt. Union Missionary Baptist Church, the Cooper family, and the many people who sent loving thoughts and special prayers. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt. F.S. “John” Porterfield, 80, of Huntington passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 1 pm Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Jerry Harrah and the Rev. Beth Bondurant. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born April 27, 1924, in Bluefield, W.Va., a son of the late Arthur Andrew and Bertha Burton Porterfield. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Arnold Porterfield; one sister, Louise Bailey, and one brother, Arnold Porterfield. He was retired from the Cabell County Board of Education and was a member of Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, a deacon and an elder. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Stan Napier of Barboursville; one brother, Harold Porterfield of Tallahassee, Fla.; two grandsons, Michael and Jonathan Napier, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Mary Arnold of Milton; a special caregiver, Patty Childers; and several nieces and nephews. Richard Didier' Harper, 56, of Lesage, W.Va., passed away Monday, February 14, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born January 30, 1949, in Cheverly, Md., a son of the late Quillie and Emmaline Didier' Harper. He was a former truck driver for the Virginia Department of Transportation. She was born June 4, l911 in West Hamlin, W.Va., a daughter of the late Robert Lee Gibson and Eva McComas Gibson Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Bailey. She was a member of Friendly United Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Hanshaw of Huntington, Juanita Holton of Ohio and Debra Fitzgerald of North Carolina; three sons, Morris Bailey of Barboursville, Howard and Harold Bailey, both of Salt Rock; one sister, Dora Bias of Barboursville; one brother Tom Gibson of Huntington; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
