Thelma Lucille Christian, 74 of Minerva, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 25, 2005. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Randy Newcomer. She was born June 12, 1930 in War, W.Va., a daughter of the late Jesse and Fannie Loretta Harmon Wyatt. She was a member of Walnut Hills Baptist Church, Huntington, and attended Central Baptist Church, Canton, Ohio, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #9738, Huntington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert O. Christian; one son, Gregory Scott Christian; one brother, Jesse Wyatt Jr. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Wesley Lauhon of Minerva, Ohio, and their children, Travis and his wife, Dana, and Todd; one son, Steve Christian of Barboursille and his children, Tyler and Matthew; one stepdaughter, Mary Allen of Baton Rouge, La., and her children, Jeff, Sarah and Jennifer; two brothers, Earl Wyatt of Garden City, Mich., and Jimmy Wyatt of Tazewell, Va. Charles Edward Hatfield, 54 of Milton went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, February 27, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Hatfield Cemetery, Coal Mountain. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Buster” and Florence Poe Hatfield. He served his country in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. He was married for 34 years to his loving wife, Erma Meadows Hatfield. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marlena and Billy Blankenship; three grandchildren, Robert, Daniel and Cheyenne Blankenship; seven brothers, Harry Glenn, Frank, Rodney, Buddy, Steve, Ricky and Richard Hatfield. Paula Ann Nield, 43, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Jarrold Lanham officiating. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born June 9, 1961, in Cumberland, Md., a daughter of Charles Thomas and JoAnn M. Greenhorn Miller of Fort Ashby, W.Va. She was a teacher at Nichols Elementary School and was a member of Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, Michael Nield; two sons, Joshua Nield and Aaron Nield, both at home; a sister, Julie M. Cary of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; a brother, T. Thomas Miller of Romney, W.Va.; her mother-in-law, Mary Andrews of Keyser; her father-in-law, Ronald Nield of Keyser; several nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends. James M. Turner, 84, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Henson Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va., by Pastor Gordon Rutherford. Interment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born July 22, 1920, at Huntington, W.Va., son of the late Russell D. and Lula Hawthorne Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Witten, Eloise Bledsoe and Sandra Kay Worley. He retired from Roberts Exxon with 44 years of service and was a member of Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eva Campbell Turner; two daughters, Sheila Dowdy and her husband, James, of Huntington, and Pamela Barker and her husband, Charles, of Proctorville, Ohio; one son, J. Randall Turner and his wife, Patricia, of Roanoke, Va.; three sisters, Mary Salmons of Barboursville, Sharon Morris of Hurricane and Karen Hughes of Culloden; three brothers, Darrell Turner of Dayton, Ohio, Dale Turner of Vienna, W.Va., and Robert Turner of Lebanon, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Terri Hamlin and her husband, Dwain, Shayne Barker, Melissa and Leigh Turner, and Charla Davis and her husband, Shane; and four great-grandchildren, Jamilyn and Nathan Hamlin and Daniel and Brooke Davis. He is also survived by his canine buddy, Tara Lee.
Clay R. Edwards, 80, of Scott Depot died Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at home. He was retired from Midway City Gas Co., and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of the Farm Service Agency for 29 years, supervisor for Western Soil Conservation District with 20 years of service, RC&D supervisor, charter member of West Virginia Farm Bureau, charter member of Putnam County Tobacco Growers Association, Farm and Home administrator-Board Loan committee, member of Putnam County Fair Board, committee board member in the Lexington Burley Tobacco Co-op, member of the Burley Tobacco Advisory Council, member of the West Virginia Agricultural Extension Committee Advisory Committee, and a local fire warden. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Bird Edwards, parents, Alfred O. and Lelia Bird Edwards, sisters, Rosetta Thornton, Audrey Purdy and Beulah Bird, brothers, Woodrow and Ray Edwards. Surviving: his wife 27 years, Mary “Jean” Edwards of Scott Depot; daughter and son-in-law, Ida Rada and David Phelps of Hurricane; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Connie Edwards of Hurricane, Anthony and Mary Edwards of Hurricane; stepchildren, Mike Cornell and wife, Helen, of Fredricksburg, Virginia, Richard Cornell and wife, Renee, of Chillicothe, Ohio, Ruth Cornell Foster and husband, Stephen, of Scott Depot, and Rebecca Cornell of Lexington, Kentucky; sisters, Doris Kelly and husband, Bob, of Lerona, and Reba Bird of Hurricane; brother, Kermit Edwards and wife, Anna, of St. Albans; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Mark J. Haverland
Mark J. Haverland, 80, of Hurricane died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at home after a seven-month battle with cancer.
He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on March 28, 1924 and lived most of his life in West Virginia.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired Master Plumber from Nitro Heating and Plumbing.
Surviving: his wife of 41 years, Nelliejane; sons, Mike Haverland of Hometown, John Thornton of Hurricane, Bill Patterson and Jim Patterson, both of Georgia; daughter, Nancy Joplin of Hurricane; sister, Patricia; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Jack Lawrence officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Gardens.

William J. Huston
William J. Huston, 79, of Scott Depot died Monday, February 21, 2005, in Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.
He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, obtained his teaching certificate from Marshall University and formerly taught at Man High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired supervisor from True Temper Corporation with 30 years of service and from Shippers Car Line and Precision Pump.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur R. and Emma L. Buckner Huston.
Surviving: his wife of 61 years, Betty Holstein Huston; sons and their wives, Joe and Connie Huston of Charleston, Jerry W. and Linda Huston of Scott Depot; daughters and son-in-law, Judie and Jim Burnette of Walton, Jenny Gowdy of Cleveland, Tennessee; brothers and their wives, Robert N. and Delores Huston of Dunbar, Curtis and Naomi Huston of White house, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jess A. Huston of Scott Depot and Jeri Lynn Huston of Houston, Texas .
Service was held Friday, February 25, 2005, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Jim Burnette officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Hansel J. Kessel
Hansel H. “Hank” Kessel, 99, of Given died Monday, February 22, 2005, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 667. He was a lifelong Putnam County farmer, taking pride in raising horses and cattle, and was a past member of the Kanawha Valley Horseman's Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Casto Kessel, daughter, Willa D. Davis, and parents, Floyd H. and Lillie Cottrill Kessel.
Surviving: daughters and their husbands, Anna D. and Jack Cunningham of Hurricane, Wanda L. Basham of Scott Depot, Juanita M. and William Creech of Hurricane, and Sharon L. Kessel of Given; half brother, James Kessel of South Charleston; half sisters, Madge Bush of Melbourne, Florida, Audra McCracken of St. Albans and Edra Wright of Dunbar; granddaughter, Teresa A. Creech of Hurricane; grandson and his wife, Hank W. and Anne Davis of Tornado; great-grandson, Jackson R. Davis of Tornado.
Service was held Friday, February 25, 2005, at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty, with the Rev. Paul Arthur officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, was in charge of arrangements.
Aretta “Pat” Mariani
Aretta “Pat” Mariani, 80, of Poca, formerly of Dunbar, died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at the home of her sister, following a long illness.
She was a homemaker and attended Dunbar Mountain Mission.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Mariani, and her sons, Gary W. and Dell Mariani.
Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Garth A. and Sandy Mariani of Poca; sister, Anita Pickens of Liberty; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, February 25, 2005, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Pastor Billy Lucas officiating. Entombment was in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Charles T. Priddy
Charles Taylor Priddy, 53, of Nitro died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was a truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Felicia Priddy and Judith Mullins, and his brother, Joseph Alan Priddy.
Surviving: sisters, Carolyn Marion of Williamstown, Pat Tinsley of High Point, North Carolina, and Barbara Quick of St. Albans; brother, Ray Priddy Jr. of Tornado; several nieces and nephews.

Oscar Lee Ellis, 88, of Scott Depot died February 25, 2005, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
Born December 14, 1916 in Greenbrier County, he was a son of the late Daniel H. and Linnie Katherine Rutherford Ellis.
He was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education and was a former employee of Goodrich Gulf. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving: daughters, Regina Kyle of Scott Depot and Deidra Nickerson of McMinnville, Oregon; grandchildren, Tim Nickerson and Leslie Pauley.
Service was held Monday, February 28, 2005, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Gene Pauley officiating. Burial was in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.
Muriel E. Canterbury
Muriel E. Canterbury, 83, of Hurricane died February 23, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center following a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer, her son, Gary, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Surviving: sons, Jack Canterbury of Inverness, Florida, Larry Canterbury of Hurricane, Jerry Canterbury of Luling, Louisiana, and Charlie Canterbury of Hurricane; daughters, Nancy Meyer and Brenda Warner, both of Hurricane, and Debbie Hutchinson of Genesco, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
