MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jesse Lamont Holland, 58, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born June 30, 1940, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of Samuel Palmer of Purcellville, Va., and the late Margaret Holland.
He was a supervisor for Sheets Wholesale in Sterling, Va.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of Cedar Lane Bible Church in Purcellville.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Campbell Holland; five daughters, Karen Young, Sharon Mason and Sherry Young, all of Martinsburg, Cathy Holland and Charlotte Holland, both of Maryland; three sons, Kenneth Gregory of Alabama, Jesse Holland Jr. of Frederick and William Young of Goshen, Ind.; a brother, the Rev. Alex L. Lambert Jr. of Martinsburg; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Dudley Baptist Church. Elder Alfred Archer and the Rev. Alex L. Lambert Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
The family will meet Friday at 12:15 p.m. at the residence before going to the church.
Luke E. Terry
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Luke Edward Terry, 82, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at Beebe Hospital, Lewes, Del.
Born Aug. 21, 1916, in Oneida, Tenn., he was the son of the late A.C. and Nell S. Terry.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and George Washington University Law School.
He was a vocational agricultural instructor at Bunker Hill High School in 1938; and taught vocational and science courses at Martinsburg and Hedgesville high schools.
He worked with the USDA Soil Conservation Service and the U.S. Veteran's Administration. He then opened a general fire and casualty insurance agency in Martinsburg.
He opened a law practice in Berkeley County in 1955;
A B-24 pilot in the 10th Air Force during World War II, he was shot down over Romania on June 15, 1944, and was a prisoner of war in Bulgaria until September 1944. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal, among others.
He was a member of Winchester Avenue Christian Church, where he was a deacon, elder and trustee; and taught the Men's Bible Class. He was past president of the Martinsburg Federation Men's Bible Classes.
He was a member of Martinsburg BPOE, Lodge 778; United Commercial Travelers; Berkeley Lodge 37 AF & AM, in Hedgesville, W.Va.; Lodge of Perfection; 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; Osiris Temple Mystic Order of Shrine and Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; IOUAM, Berkeley County Farm Bureau; National Rifle Association; a past commander of Post 8 DAV American Legion; past commander Martinsburg Civil Air Patrol; and past president of Camp Frame 4-H Club Association.
He received the West Virginia Farm Bureau "Distinguished Service Award." He volunteered with Boy Scout troops and was a merit badge counselor. He was a past member of Martinsburg Rotary Club.
He was past president of the Berkeley County Bar Association; member of Board of Governors and a vice-president of the West Virginia Bar Association; and a member of the American Bar Association.
He served two terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates. He was director of legislation for the West Virginia Farm Bureau. He was a member of Local Board 28; Selective Service System; and was chairman of Selective Service Board in Berkeley County.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Johnson Terry; three daughters, Kathryn T. Burkhart of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Mary Ann Edwards of Nashville, Tenn., and Rebecca J. Farrow of San Clemente, Calif.; a son, Dr. Luke E. Terry Jr. of Sykesville, Md.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Winchester Avenue Christian Church. The Rev. Douglas J. Hollida will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Margaret S. Reese
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Margaret Susan "Peggy" Reese, 52, of Bunker Hill, and formerly of Baltimore, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 19, 1946, she was the daughter of Margaret Mary Stone Reese of Bunker Hill and the late Ronald Owen Reese.
She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore.
She was employed by City Hospital.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Inwood, W.Va.
She was a member of the West Virginia and Maryland Nursing Associations; Mercy Hospital Alumni Association, Baltimore; and American Legion Auxiliary Post 183, Parkville, Md.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Teresa Van Ostrand of Rochester, N.Y., Maureen Ecker of Lusby, Md., and Mary Pat Toland of Baltimore; two nieces; six nephews; and three great-nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Inwood. The Rev. Brian Shoda will be celebrant. Burial prayers will be offered in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mamie K. Sirbaugh
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mamie K. Sirbaugh, 86, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 12, 1912, in Rockingham County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Hopkins and Lille Catherine Cline Dedrick.
She was retired from Berkeley Upholstery Co.
She was a member of Rosemont Grace Brethren Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Fouch of Martinsburg, with whom she resided, Marilyn Dritto of Stuarts Draft, Va., and Juanita Poole of Florida; 22 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll Sandridge and Eldridge Sandridge; and seven sisters and brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Carl A. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Katherine S. Bracken
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Katherine S. Bracken, 72, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born Aug. 6, 1926, in Pikesville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Katherine Overdick Schmidt.
She was a homemaker and school teacher.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by her husband, James D. Bracken; two daughters, Cheryl B. Grubb of Wheaton, Ill., and Jennifer L. Bracken of Reston, Va.; two sons, Jeffrey J. Bracken of Berkeley Springs and David S. Bracken of Springfield, Va.; a brother, Frederick C. Schmidt of Reisterstown, Md.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Lloyd.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Union Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs; and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
