HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - W. Clifton Butts, 84, of Putman Street, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Dec. 4, 1913, in Lovettsville, Va., he was the son of the late Roy Spencer and Nina Filler Butts.
He was a retired superintendent with 47 years of service with Standard Lime and Stone Co. in Millville, W.Va.
He served on the Harpers Ferry Town Council and as town recorder.
He was a life member of Bolivar United Methodist Church, where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school, taught youth and adult classes, was chairman of the administrative board and was a church trustee.
He was a member of Tri-County Older 4-H organization, and was an avid bird watcher and member of Audubon Society.
He is survived by one sister, Catherine Butts Collins of Bolivar, W.Va.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bolivar United Methodist Church in Bolivar. The Rev. Jim Hamrick will officiate. Burial will be in Harper cemetery in Harpers Ferry
The family will receive friends at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Marguerite L. Riley
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Marguerite L. Riley, 76, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 21, 1921, in Dargan, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Doris Blash McGowan.
She was a member of Berkeley Station Bible Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria A. Sorrells of Rockmark, Ga.; three sons, Howard W. McGowan, Douglas L. Riley and Kenneth A. Riley, all of Martinsburg; one brother, Carroll R. McGowan of Silver Spring, Md.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Fred A. Greenfield will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Eunice D. Willis
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Eunice Dean Willis, 95, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Nursing Home in Boonsboro.
Born April 30, 1903, in Palmyra, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late David and Elizabeth Jones Dean.
She was an interior designer in New York City, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former church elder, and a member of PEO Society.
She is survived by one son, David H. Willis of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

Joseph M. Everts
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Joseph Miller Everts, 79, of Charles Town, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at his home.
Born Nov. 22, 1918, in Ranson, W.Va., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Ida Ashby Everts.
He retired from Carpenters Union in Washington, D.C., after 35 years, and helped distribute The Washington Post in Charles Town, W.Va., for more than 60 years.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town.
He also was a member of Carpenters Local 1590 in Harwood, Md.
He is survived by one son, Joseph W. Everts of Charles Town; one sister, Rhoda Lascola of Baltimore; and one brother, Millard "Blackie" Everts of Charles Town.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Darlene Everts; three sisters, Lucille Dutrow, Barbara Everts and Mary Ann Everts; and two brothers, Linden Everts and Jerry Everts.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town. The Rev. John Alfriend will officiate.
There will be no visitation.

Walter C. Fenton Jr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Walter C. Fenton Jr., 79, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1919, in Staten Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter C. Sr. and Charlotte Brennan Fenton.
He was a retired stationary engineer for Lucent Technologies in Murray Hill, N.J.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Iselin, N.J.
He also was a member of Iselin No. 1 Fire Co., and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Daniels Fenton; three daughters, Dianne Elison of Elmwood Park, N.J., and Eileen G. Beidleman and Grace R. Ortiz, both of Martinsburg; three sons, Andrew C. Fenton of Gig Harbor, Wash., Walter C. Fenton III of Brigantine, N.J., and Keith A. Fenton of Avenel, N.J.; one brother, Paul W. Fenton of Staten Island, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lydia Herrick; and three brothers, Frank Fenton, Andrew Fenton, and Robert Fenton.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - A. Maxine Garnes, 76, a resident of Valley View Nursing Home, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at the nursing home.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. James M. and Etta Amos Garnes.
She had been a caregiver.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by a sister, Nadeline Vest of Hampton, Va.; a nephew, Frank Polak of Martinsburg, W.Va., nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Roy and Irma Polak; and three brothers, Vincent Garnes, Harold Garnes and Bass Garnes.
