MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Richard Beall Kilmer, 71, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born Aug. 9, 1927, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late George William and Grace Odette Beall Kilmer Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was employed by and a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose, with a Pilgrim Degree of Merit and past ritual director.
He was a member of Hedgesville Episcopal Church.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; and a member of BPO Elks 778.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Naomi Hull Kilmer; two daughters, Barbara Kilmer Fortney of Stephenson, Va., and Ruth Ann Kilmer Callahan of Landenberg, Pa.; a sister, Ellen H. Chiarelli of Erie, Pa.; a brother, Robert Dudley Kilmer of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a granddaughter; and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George William Kilmer Jr. and Boyd M. Kilmer.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Harold O. Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Hedgesville cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie D. Brown
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Nellie DeHaven Brown, 88, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at Integrated Health Services, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Jan. 27, 1910, in Frederick County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Matilda Whitacre DeHaven.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Brown.
She was employed by Perfection Garment, retiring after 42 years of service.
She was a member of Winchester Avenue Christian Church.
She volunteered at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Anne Chambers of Martinsburg; a son, Howard F. Brown of Martinsburg; two step daughters, Pauline Kesselring of Williamsport and Goldie Leatherman of Hagerstown; four sisters, Geneva Dunham of Glengary, W.Va., Evelyn Kees and Louella Parsons, both of Winchester, Va. and Doris Miller of Hagerstown; two brothers, Donald DeHaven of Martinsburg and James DeHaven of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Douglas and Hazel Lamp; and a brother, Melvin DeHaven.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Douglas J. Hollida and the Rev. Paul E. Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.

William H. McCann
PLEASANTVILLE, Ohio - William Harrison McCann, 83, of Pleasantville, formerly of Shepherdstown, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Heartland Nursing Home of Fairfield in Pleasantville.
Born Dec. 3, 1914, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Robert and Emma Robinson McCann.
He was retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., where he was a maintenance worker.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Baptist Church in Shepherdstown, where he was a trustee for 12 years, a Sunday school teacher for six years, a choir member. He also played the piano.
He is survived by two sisters, Emma Oglesbee of Columbus, Ohio, and Louise Monroe of Sharpsburg; one brother, Robert McCann of New York City; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Homezelle Hughes and Mary B. Jenkins.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Baptist Church, West German Street in Shepherdstown. The Rev. Joe D. Lyles Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Mary K. Fritts
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Mary Kay Fritts, 92, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Sept. 19, 1906, in Berryville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Walter and Lillian Ophal Smallwood Lloyd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Dalton Fritts, in 1976.
She attended Berryville schools.
She retired as a seamstress in Philadelphia.
She was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church, where she was a member of Margaret Crum Women's Circle.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances Bramante of Clermont, Fla.; three sisters, Corean Lloyd Ferrell, Dora V. Lloyd and Ruby C. Lloyd, all of Charles Town; a brother, William W. Lloyd of Charles Town; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Isabell Creamer; and two brothers, Edward Lloyd and Eugene Lloyd.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

John L. Hartley
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John Louis Hartley, 87, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born May 24, 1911, in Page County, Va., he was the son of the late William Jonas and Mary Magdaline Morrison Hartley.
He was a retired dairy farmer; and a carpenter.
He was a member of New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annie Jenkins Hartley; four daughters, Janice H. Cook and Sallie Anna Stolipher, both of Martinsburg, Mary Shade-Henderson of Lady Lake, Fla., and Ruth Ellen Hollar of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sons, John W. F. "Peachy" Hartley of Corpus Christi, Texas and Robert Luther Hartley of Kinzers, Pa.; a sister, Grovene DeBaugh of Boonsboro; 25 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Christine Snyder, Madoline Shade, Geneva Miller and Sarah Boward; three brothers, Norman Peter, Fanklin Rutherford and Robert Morrison Hartley; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Walter F. Bowers and Frank Hartley, his grandson, will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
