CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles Lindbergh Painter Jr., 48, of Charles Town, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
Born June 12, 1950, in Leesburg, Va., he was the son of Charles L. Sr. and Stella A. Piper Painter of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
He attended Charles Town High School.
He was a supervisor for Superior Paving Co. in Gainesville, Va., for more than 20 years.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Nona S. Phillips Painter, at home; two daughters, Tena Mills of Charles Town and Angela Shade of Edinburgh, Va.; one son, Mark L. Painter of Harpers Ferry; three sisters, Nancy Painter, Sharon Painter and Lisa Painter, all of Harpers Ferry; three brothers, Frankie Painter of Charles Town, and Denny Painter and Greg Painter, both of Harpers Ferry; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Arletta Painter; and one brother, Kevin Scott Painter.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oakland United Methodist Church, Rt. 9 East, Charles Town. The Rev. Franklin Nick will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Friends will be received Thursday and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 2060 Rosedale Road, Charles Town.
Robert L. Kidwell
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Robert Leo Kidwell, 68, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at his home.
Born May 15, 1930, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dayton V. and Grace Peck Kidwell.
His wife of 46 years, Olive Geraldine Decker Kidwell, died in 1998.
He retired in 1996 as a loader operator for the West Virginia Department of Highways.
He was a member of Word of Deliverance Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He is survived by four daughters, Sandy Farris of Topeka, Kan., Karen Claypool of Needmore, Pa., and Donna J. Pierce and Pamela Farris, both of Great Cacapon; two sons, Bob Kidwell and Elwood Kidwell, both of Great Cacapon; three sisters, Nellie Stotler and Alta "Tiddle" Johnson, both of Berkeley Springs, and Mary Ellen Bly of Great Cacapon; four brothers, Wilbur Kidwell, Earl Kidwell, Eugene Kidwell, and Carl Kidwell, all of Great Cacapon; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Word of Deliverance Church in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Jack Hiles and the Rev. Shirley Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Great Cacapon cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va., which will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Kenneth Edmonds
LEWES, Del. - Kenneth "Peachy" Edmonds, 75, of Lewes, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born June 12, 1923, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Domain Rizzo Edmonds.
His wife, Betty Cosner Edmonds, preceded him in death.
He retired from the Internal Revenue Service.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by one daughter, Janet Anne Lucas of Alexander City, Ala.; one sister, Adalene Gregory of Martinsburg; and one brother, the Rev. Raymond H. Edmonds Jr. of Portsmouth, Va.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Patricia Edmonds; a son, Kenneth Edmonds Jr.; and a brother, Donald Edmonds.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Raymond H. Edmonds Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Pauline E. Wilson
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Pauline Elizabeth Wilson, 88, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at Heartland of Martinsburg.
Born June 27, 1910, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Nora Virginia Hutzler Meadows.
She was retired from the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, William H. Wilson of Austin, Texas; a daughter-in-law with whom she resided, Reva Wilson of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Marshal L. Wilson; three sisters, Arbella Benner, Bernadine Mentzer and Luella Forsyth; and a brother, Guy Mason.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Christopher D. Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - John A. "Jack" Snay Sr., 68, of Falling Waters, who died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, was the son of the late William Wells and Mildred A. Delorge Wells.
Samuel N. Mentzer
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Samuel Nathan Mentzer, 84, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Nov. 16, 1913, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late John W. and Clara McDade Mentzer.
He retired from Martin Marietta after 43 years.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Small Mentzer; a daughter, Jo Ann Mentzer; at home, a brother, Charles Stephen Mentzer of Baltimore; a sister, Lenore Pumphrey of Baltimore; a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Thomas and Peter Jacob Mentzer.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Clara V. Butts
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Clara V. Butts, 88, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 19, 1910, in Hampshire County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Mary Ann Fultz Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. "Buttsie" Butts, in 1973.
She was the former owner and operator, along with her husband, of Butts Gulf Service Station.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, and was treasurer of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class 23.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Lea Rannells of Martinsburg; two sisters, Nellie Creek of Martinsburg and Hazel Davis of York, Pa.; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Smallwood; a brother, Robert Earl Baker; and two infant brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Arlene R. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
