MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Tipton F. "Buzz" Berens, 62, of Martinsburg, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at his home.
Born Sept. 23, 1936, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late William F. Berens and Mary Bowers Berens Gatling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Martin Berens.
He was a 1954 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired from Shenandoah Gas Co.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of the Moose.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Renee Berens of Martinsburg and Julie Lynne Berens of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Robert Anthony Berens of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; a half brother, Donald B. Gatling Jr. of Florida; and a close friend, Patricia Rhinehart.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Grace M. Fearnow
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Grace Michael Fearnow, 85, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born April 16, 1913, in New Hope, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Sylvester and Sarah Ellen Swaim Michael.
She attended the Mount School in Berkeley Springs.
As a young woman, she worked at several local tomato canning factories, including P.C. Yost, Weber's and Pentoney and Yost. She worked for 40 years as a seamstress at Jacobs Brothers Garment Factory in Hancock, Md. She retired in 1978 from Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock, makers of rain gear. She had been a homemaker in recent years.
She was a life-long member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs, where she served as children's Sunday School teacher.
She was a member of Pythian Sisters.
She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Fred Elsworth Fearnow of Berkeley Springs; a son, Donald Elsworth Fearnow of Berkeley Springs; two grandchildren, Shawn E. Fearnow of Berkeley Springs and Meredith A. Ours of Bossier City, La.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Carrie Michael, Pearl Michael, Icy Cain, Ruth Michael, Maude Unger, Nellie Frock; and a brother, Henry William Michael.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Mary Gebe Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Jack Steiner
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Jack Steiner, 79, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Russell G. "Dutch" and Dora Burton Steiner.
He was a 1940 graduate of Hancock High School and served as class president.
He retired in 1986, after 45 years of service, as plant manager of Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp. in Berkeley Springs.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 45th Infantry Division during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church, Hancock, Md.
He was a member of Hancock Lions Club. He was one of the founders of Hancock Little League. He was awarded a life membership in the Maryland PTA. In 1972, Maryland Gov. Marvin Mandell appointed him to the Washington County Board of Education. He was a charter member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs. He had served as post commander of Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post 26 in Hancock; and was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Enid Musser Steiner; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Johnson of Glendale, Ariz.; two sons, Gregory D. Steiner and Ronald L. Steiner, both of Berkeley Springs; a brother, Lester A. Steiner of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Steiner; a sister, Anna Lucille "Ludie" Ruppenthal; and a brother, Aaron G. Steiner.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Thomas W. Jackson will officiate. Burial with military graveside honors provided by members of Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
Michael B. Huff
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michael Brian Huff, 26, of Martinsburg, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at City Hospital.
He was the son of Charles and Connie V. Huff of Martinsburg.
He attended Martinsburg High School.
He was employed in construction.
He is survived by three sons, Joshua Huff, Sean Huff and Zachari Huff, all at home; one brother, Kevin Huff of Martinsburg; maternal grandmother, Saloma Vandevender of Martinsburg; paternal grandparents, Paul and Louise Huff of Martinsburg; former wife, Tonya Huff of Martinsburg; two nieces; one nephew; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gerald Vandevender.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time by Rosedale Funeral Chapel.
Katherine V. Cook
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Katherine V. Cook, 82, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at City Hospital.
Born May 6, 1916, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Franklin H. and Mary Catherine Alder Webber.
She and her husband owned and operated Cook's Auto Body Service for 45 years.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Berkeley County Republican Club, was past president of Women's Club and a member of A.A.R.P.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Russell W. Cook; two daughters, Phyllis Cook-Gregory and Kathy Elaine Cook, both of Martinsburg; one son, Russell C. Cook of Martinsburg; two sisters, Anna Sours and Mary O'Roke, both of Martinsburg; two brothers, George Webber of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Henry Webber of Martinsburg; six grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James Webber, Bruce Webber and Joseph Webber.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Arlene R. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Rachel I. Hanshew
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Rachel Isabel Painter Hanshew, 83, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob Painter and Annie C. Hardy Marino.
She was retired from IBM.
She was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She was also very active in non-profit organizations.
She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Hanshew of Alexandria, Va.; one son, John A. Hanshew, Jr. of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two sisters, Vergie Richards of Baltimore, and Sallie Keplinger of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Fritchie Hovermale; two sisters, Mollie Norris and Elsie McCarty; one brother, William Painter; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Jack Sutor, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
