CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - James Peters "Jim" Morison, 87, of Charles Town, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born March 14, 1911, in Latrobe, Pa., he was the son of the late Dr. Garnett P. and Malinda Peters Morison.
He was a 1928 graduate of Shepherdstown High School; attended Shepherd College; and obtained A.B. and M.A. degrees from West Virginia University. He did graduate work at Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, and the University of North Carolina School of Public Health.
He was an elder in Charles Town Presbyterian Church and a former clerk of the Session.
He served in the Army Medical Corps. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon.
He worked with the West Virginia State Department of Health in the Morgantown, Wellsburg and Weirton areas.
He was a clinical blood chemist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; and was supervisor of the Department of Chemistry at the Veterans Administration Center in Martinsburg, retiring in 1977.
He volunteered in the Jefferson Memorial Hospital Laboratory.
He assisted Dr. William Trussell D.V.M. in his work at Charles Town Races; was a chemist for West Virginia State Police Detachment in Jefferson County; taught clinical blood chemistry at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and was a West Virginia State Civil Service Examiner in the field of Medical Technology. He was a past member of American Association of Clinical Chemists.
He was past commander of Jackson-Perks Legion Post 71, Charles Town, and the Post's finance officer. He was a business manager of the Legion Baseball Club.
He was vice president of Jefferson County Youth Center; a member of Charles Town Evening Kiwanis Club; a former board member of the United Way of Jefferson County; treasurer of Jefferson County Memorial Park; past treasurer of Veterans Memorial Monument; and past treasurer of American Legion Forty and Eight, Voiture 1356.
He was the Commandant of the Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans; and a former member of Jefferson County Cotillion Club.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth A. Haymans Morison; a son, James P. Morison Jr. of Gaithersburg, Md.; a brother, Garnett P. Morison Jr. of Ranson; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Presbyterian Church, East Washington Street, Charles Town. The Rev. William Everhart, the Rev. Lisa Everhart and the Rev. Carlye McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Ruth V. Bryant
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Ruth Virginia Bryant, 84, of Kearneysville, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Integrated Health Services of W.Va., Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Oct. 9, 1914, in Berryville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Simons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Lawrence Bryant.
She was employed by Perfection Garment Factory and Loring Lynn Garment Factory as a seamstress.
She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She was a Boy Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by five daughters, Corniela Gentry of Martinsburg, W.Va., Jeanny Cross and Kay Pifer, both of Kearneysville, Judy Slusher of Wyers Cave, Va., and Ruth Ann Manning of Baker, Fla.; two sons, Norman Woodward of Kearneysville, and John Woodward of Martinsburg; one sister, Joan Slusher of Charles Town, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Simons.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. Earl Wilbourne will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Shirley A. DeHaven
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Shirley Ann DeHaven, 62, of Falling Waters, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born March 28, 1936, in Princeton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Cowan Gillenwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. DeHaven.
She is survived by one son, William F. Wilson of Centreville, Va.; one stepson, Paul Douglas DeHaven of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Frances O'Neal of Forestville, Md., and Margaret Brannon of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one granddaughter; one niece and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, R. Steven DeHaven.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Estella T. Prade
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Estella T. Jackson Prade, 70, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at her home.
Born Nov. 3, 1928, in Marshall, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Matilda Reed Tanner.
She retired from the University of Southern California as an administrator.
She was a member of Serenity Seventh-day Adventist Church, Martinsburg, and was Pathfinder director.
She volunteered with community/outreach projects.
She is survived by one son, James Jackson of Martinsburg; one sister, Anna Mae Houston of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, James Tanner of Los Angeles, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Tanner.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Elder William Linthicum and Elder Vernon Cartwright will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jack W. Catrow, 85, of Shenandoah Junction, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at City Hospital.
Born April 7, 1913, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry Samuel and Daisy Pitzer Catrow.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Donaldson Catrow.
He was a retired dairy farmer.
He was a member of Uvilla United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Jefferson County Farm Bureau and Jefferson County Fair Board.
He is survived by three daughters, Fannie V. McKee and M. Eileen Chambers, both of Shenandoah Junction, and Betty Lou Crayton of Grafton, W.Va.; two sons, H. Leon Catrow of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Jack W. Catrow of Shenandoah Junction; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul Catrow, Bruce Catrow, William Catrow, Frank Catrow and Allen Catrow.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Donna Herritt will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
