Rosco A. Nazelrod

NEW CASTLE, Del. - Rosco Alston Nazelrod, 71, of 13 Dryden Road, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Del.

Born Feb. 21, 1928, in Pierce, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dayton Austin and Carolyn Lipscomb Nazelrod.

His wife, Lorraine Nazelrod, died in 1984.

He was employed by Boeing and previously with Fairchild Industries.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean conflict.

He was a former member of the Masons in New Castle, and American Legion Funkstown Post 211.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Jeanette F. Castle of Bel Air, Md., and Carolyn Rhodes of Winchester, Va.; three stepsons, George W. Mills of Williamsport, Donald R. Mills of Salem, Tenn., and James R. Mills of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Thelma Rizer of Cleveland, and Phyllis Flanders of North Fort Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Jack Nazelrod and Victor D. Nazelrod, both of Hagerstown, and Justin E. Nazelrod of El Paso, Texas; 11 stepgrandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown, with military honors by American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Michael Z. Butts

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Michael Z. Butts, 39, of Hedgesville, died Monday, May 17, 1999, in Tomahawk, W.Va.

Born June 7, 1959, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Louise Virginia Turner Butts of Hedgesville and the late Melvin Butts.

He was a baker at Schmidt's Bakery.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lisa Markley Butts; two daughters, Cynthia S. Butts and Crystal R. Butts, both at home; a son, Joshua Z. Butts at home; two sisters, Marilyn Jane Swartz of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Teresa Jeanette Besaw of Hedgesville; and two brothers, Melvin Wayne Butts and Timothy Darin Butts, both of Hedgesville.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Lee Ashley will officiate. Burial will be in Tomahawk Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Fund for Michael Butts' Children, c/o Blue Ridge Bank, P.O. Box 2569, Martinsburg, WV 25402.

John M. Ayers

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John Moses Ayers, 78, of Martinsburg, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 7, 1920, in Pendleton County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jerry and Lottie Nelson Ayers.

He was a retired contractor.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Doering Ayers; a daughter, Tina Wilt of Martinsburg; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Paul Martin Jr.; a sister, Nellie Ayers; and a brother, Tyson Ayers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Mason Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leona M. Dahlin

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Leona Mellick Dahlin, 87, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at her home.

She was born Dec. 31, 1911, in Albia, Iowa.

Her husband, George King Dahlin, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Bruce H. Dahlin of Shepherdstown.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Prudence Dahlin; and one son, George King Dahlin Jr.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Phillip D. Weigle

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Phillip Dale Weigle, 54, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born May 20, 1944, in Cherry Run, W.Va., he was the son of the late Phillip H. and Ada Mae Rhoe Weigle.

He was a TV electronics repairman.

A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Johnsontown Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Miller Weigle; two daughters, Sandra Stewart of Middleway, W.Va., and Jessica J. Weigle, at home; two sons, Micah S. Weigle and Nathaniel J. Weigle, both at home; four sisters, Marcella Robinson of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Elizabeth D. Shores of Winchester, Va., Berniece Schoppert and Althea K. Terlson, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Kenneth M. Weigle of Hedgesville; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister; and two brothers, Charles Weigle and one infant brother.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Johnsontown Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Norma L. Anderson

DARKESVILLE, W.Va. - Norma Lorraine Anderson, 78, of Darkesville, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Aug. 26, 1920 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late W. Sherman Hopper and Sallye T. Wharton Hopper Snyder.

She retired as the owner of Norma Anderson Carpets; was a salesperson at Sears, Walls Kitchen Center, Whitacre Furniture and Martinsburg and Frederick stores of Montgomery Ward. She had been employed at Interwoven Mills, Fairchild Aircraft and as a seasonal employee at C.H. Musselman Co.

She was a member of Grace Wesleyan Church and a former member of Christ Reformed Church.

She was a member of Daughters of America Council 7. She volunteered at City Hospital, Homewood Retirement Center, K.D. Court and Mended Hearts at Winchester Medical Center. She was a PASS volunteer at Valley View Elementary School fourth grade and a volunteer reader at the school.

She is survived by her husband, Randolph D. Anderson; two daughters, Faith Hedges of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Dianna Hollis of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; two sons, P. Darryl Bennett and A. Keith Bennett, both of Baker Heights, W.Va.; three sisters, Murial Fornuto of Rochester, N.Y., Dora Hernandez of Tampa, Fla., and Ruby Lee of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a brother, Conrad Hopper of Rochester; a stepdaughter, Nancy V. Thomas of Atlanta; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Randolph Anderson Jr., and two grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Kenneth Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Grace Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 2808, Martinsburg, WV 25402; Berkeley County Humane Society, 1531 Charles Town Road, Martinsburg, WV 25401; South Berkeley Ambulance Service, Inwood, WV 25428.

Volunteers of City Hospital are asked to meet Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and to wear their smocks.
